These USA-vs-The World boxing meets were greet entertainment back in the day. The judging and refereeing often left a lot to be desired, though.

@@wilfredomartinez2355 In amateur fights, a knockdown doesn't count any more than a punch , so if you land more punches in a fair fight, you'd win, so there's no reason to assume that Jimmy couldn't win a fight against Stevenson, as long as he wasn't knocked out. The ref was taking points away from Clark, so you can see his actions would effect the outcome.

I liked Howard Cosell but he allowed himself to be caught up in the emotive times..Clarke fought gamely& landed his left hook effectively but Stephenson was mostly in charge! And he certainly didn't need that ref to be butting in constantly!

Cuba easily produces some of the most skilled boxers world wide and the amateur's have more battles than most American professional boxers their entire careers. Could he have been "too" scared? Credo che teofilo Stevenson sia stato il più grande pugile del mondo olimpico! Forse solo laszlo papp, sul piano schermistico, e per i pesi medi e 'welters' credo possa accostarsi a lui. Avrebbe probabilmente vinto una quarta medaglia d'oro al tempo del boicottaggio mi pare dell'84. Lo ricordo nell'incontro con Damiani dove subì una sconfitta. Good fight, brave Clark and horrible reporter who was so comical that he saw bloody Stevenson while whole face of Clark was on blood, he saw some punches of Clark when he was staggering around because of heavy uppercuts from Stevenson. Yes, Clark was good, brave, aggressive but he was beaten already in first round, not to mention other rounds and knockdown.

Cosell gave a master class in partisanship for this one. Why he felt it necessary to carry on as he so often did remains a mystery. On the other hand, maybe he was just an asshole.

the Cuban Stevenson got to fight a steady supply of amateur boxers. None of them polished good professionals.
Stevenson never had to fight a fully fledged PRO boxer.
Granted though, Stevenson was a good boxer for his time, Cuban or not. He was long, fast, and good hands.

Una pelea muy buena el Teo como siempre un estilo muy limpio donde apenas comete infracciones y siempre manteniendo su ecuanimidad hasta el final.Sobre su oponente diré que el árbitro desde que comenzó el combate se le montó arriba que no lo dejaba hacer su combate,me pareció un poco exagerado la labor del tercer hombre del cuadrilátero.

Ahh Ali himself, recognized more than once the quality of the Cuban.
In this encounter, Jimmy made a better performance compared to the previous one, mainly at the begining,not so much in the last part. It was not enough to defeat Stevenson, though. Stevenson clearly won this fight.

@@esmerbarthelemy1698 es polémico decir eso, Ali nunca boxeo con el ni siquiera se enfrento a alguien con físico similar a él, foreman y el resto de los boxeadores que enfrento eran más bien de mucha potencia de golpe pero lentos ,stevenson tenía un físico más ágil, buen juego de manos buenisimo juego de pie y una pegada demoledora, era tan rápido como Ali solo que creo que ganaría stevenson porque tenía extremidades más largas ali solo media 1,91 y teofilo 1,96, el boxeo cubano está entre los más grandes estandartes del mundo y es difícil saber que pasaría yo e visto peleas de ambos y créeme si el cubano se sube al cuadrilatero ali hiva a saber lo que era un boxeador de verdad.

Noooo! The referee i hope was fired after this. This is painful to see, the ameriac only lost the last round in my view which can be debatable considerind a knock down in amateur doesn't earn extra points.

The match was an absolute sham. When Clark nailed Stevenson with the right hand in the 1st, ( broke Stevensons nose) the referee did everything possible to keep Clark from taking control of the match. Never even looked at Stevenson once the entire match. 😕

Stevenson fué un buen boxeador amateur,dependía de su pegada y nada más. Esa pelea la ganó el arbitro y nadie más. Clark pudo haberselo comido pero el arbitro no ayudó. Hubiese querido ver a Stevenson en el pro,muy fuerte sí pero sus piernas no aguantaban dos asaltos intensos.

I saw a washed up Cuban who was a former champion STRUGGLE to beat a nobody amateur, AND he needed all the help he could get from a crooked ref.......
Olympic boxing was very political back in those days, for sure. Stevenson was an imposing figure and Clark was probably never going to beat him anyway, however, he would have had a better chance had it not been for the referee. I never saw Clark do anything slightly wrong in the fight but was admonished repeatedly. I really miss boxing the way it used to be…
