Great options as always Tom. If I don't sub out LEC for HAM, any of my other options require a - 10, so I'm really hoping FER comes back to life. Otherwise...
Budget is king but if the rain misses Austria which it now looks like it will then it is usually a low DNF track. If that's the case then the c tier assets are likely to do the same as in Spain so I would focus more on the points this week and look to target budget building in later races.
Budget is king honestly I was looking at the top player in the world globally basically able to afford two expensive drivers (Nor & Sai) as well as both Ocon & Gasly + Hulk alongside Fer & Merc constructor...I didn't do the math on it but a budget like that puts that player at a tremendous over all of us that's only going to compound over time. So yeah you gotta build that budget I still think right now more than go for strictly highest points because at some point budget is going to inevitably permit you to have higher points potential over those who thought only about points and not enough about budget...because as well it seems like it's not just expensive drivers & budget drivers but an evolution now into expensive drivers, budget drivers for those who didn't mind their budget building properly, and mid tier priced drivers that will give you an advantage serving in the place of what would be budget driver slots for others with lower budget. Because the top player in the world right now basically is using Gasly & Ocon as two of their 3 "budget" drivers which most people can't even afford one of those let alone both and so going into a weekend like this that may lead to huge benefits without even spending chips! Budget is king!
@@Drizzydid yeah, trouble is, it is getting harder to gain budget 😭. Seems like I'll forever be after more budget and possibly sacrificing points all season for it! But definitely still important to keep in mind. Are you going for budget this week over maxing the points?
@@potpanmanF1 I'm going for 1 A tier driver i.e. Lando and the rest based on FP & Sprint quali I will look to maximize budget for the other slots because sprint weekend is one of those weekends where it might be easier to gain budget / multiple 0.5Ms for B tier drivers/constructors and multiple 1.0Ms for C tier drivers if planned correctly just because of the sheer number of points on offer and just like you said there's not really as many opportunities these days to get the budget up as much as before and just like you said as well in the video once you start losing out by 0.1M to be able to afford drivers you actually want and it's by that small of a margin it can start to get really annoying & painful especially considering those drivers you missed out on by 0.1M might continue to get further and further and out of reach often at the expense of the drivers you were forced to settle on due to budget restriction. For example Pierre could go up 1.0M this weekend finishing in the points in both the sprint race and actual race with overtakes at the expense of Yuki who may go down 0.2 or 0.3 for being unable to do the same given the current state seemingly of the Alpine vs RB cars. So yeah given the opportunity this weekend for sure I see this it as a necessary time to gain budget where maybe even as much as 2-2.5M budget increases could be on the table and such opportunities like that are becoming rarer and rarer as you said - gotta go for it now imo.
@@Drizzydid I'd have to disagree. The points are relative to the DNFs really. Spain proved this. Austria is known for being a low DNF track (as long as the weather stays away which looks like it will now). As in Spain, unless you get very lucky picking the very few C tier drivers that go up in value you will almost certainly not see much if any price rises from the C tiers. I'd genuinely recommend a 2 b tier line up to guarantee even the small price increases they will likely get if it is a low DNF race (again like in Spain where all the premium drivers all went up in value). Then try to get lucky based on the sprint qualifying as to who might be the rare C tier to go up as well. 4 C tier seems crazy to me on a low risk circuit.
@@Matty-gl1xq You may not have caught in my post completely which I wouldn't begrudge you because it was too long honestly as this one probably will be as well but I actually said 1 A tier, 1 B tier, and 3 C tiers. Not 4 C tiers and I'm not going for 2 B tiers when I can afford 1 A tier and still have enough for a B tier + 3 C tiers. But my point remains if you have a budget for your 3 C tiers to be say...Hulk, Oco, and Gas like the top player in the world that's much better than what most people have the budget for right now which might be Gas/tsu + a williams driver and a sauber driver. The potential for points from your C tier is way higher with the "higher budget" C tiers if you build your budget to be able to afford that and then it becomes a cycle of manifestation where let's say this Alpine ascendency isn't a fluke and you have both Oco + Gas in your C tier and they're finishing in p9 and 10 every race...they'll get more points and get more budget...so it almost works out even better in the end. But if you don't put yourself in a budget position to be able to do something like that in the future you might not feel it in the short term but in the long term I think running into issues becomes a real possibility. Then just to clarify are you saying the higher amount of points available from sprint quali, quali, sprint race, and regular race won't really have an impact on budget if there are minimal DNFs? I thought the amount of points scored matters as well? And there's more of those on offer for every driver here...? Please correct me if I'm wrong!
@@Drizzydid my bad. Apologies. Yes, 100%, the better the budget the better the potential driver for points as a result and this can be frustrating if you miss out early and are stuck with the lower budget drivers that then because of their quality don't grow in budget and the cycle continues. I think where my disagreement came from was your suggestion that there was optimal budget building potential in this sprint weekend. Again using Spain as an example, the low DNF count meant that almost all the C tiers lost value while almost all the B and A tier (certainly the premium picks of the B) gained value. If Austria is to avoid the rain the DNF rate is again usually low. While more points are available in a sprint weekend this is the same for all drivers. Max, lando, Lewis etc would all be expecting to have higher fantasy points because of the format, thus bringing up the average points required for a price rise across the board. It would only be when DNFs occured that the AVG points would reduce and potentially huge price rises may occur (such as in Monaco and Canada). Low DNF tends to mean low price changes, irrespective of whether it's a sprint or not. You're A tier and assessing quali to fill in the gaps is definitely a good strategy and one I'm doing too. I just thought it was worth pointing out that Austria might not be great for budget building and not to go searching for budget building drivers. It will probably rain now and there will be a million DNFs 🤣. Also, Austria tends to be a 3 stop race so Redbull constructor looks very promising for pit stop points and with Max inevitably top 2 if Perez looks anywhere near not terrible then it might be worth looking at them if budget allows.
With the alpine, I think they need to prove themselves this week for me to consider them. Monaco is Monaco, gasly and ocon benefited massively from the weather in Canada and in Spain they may well have been good but they hadn't brought any upgrades where all the teams around them had. I listened to and F1 podcast the other day and it was suggested that alpine benefitted from the other teams not maximising their new set ups. If alpine are good in Austria then I'll definitely be on board.
Fair points. Tbh one of the alpine drivers (can't remember which... Gasly?) Said that they didn't expect to do as well as they did in Spain. I'm still tempted by one of them though
