Emma Thompson uses that quote "it was like watching my favourite pub burning down" in Bridget Jones Baby! She says something like... "I wouldn't stand at that end if I were you, someone once told me it was like watching their favourite pub bringing down". - that someone being Robbie Williams!
Omg
Crimson Demon this is so meta. Awesome...
Crimson Demon Yes!! This is the first time I have seen this and I instantly knew the line!!! She co-wrote the screenplay and knew it would be funny! Even more so now that I know where it came from!!!
Nice
She said that her ex-husband said that
Finally, a leader!
When you're already on the floor laughing! This actually did hurt, lol.
My stomach muscles won't recover from this
Rebekah Salander I think the best is to live with the ruins for now... :D
this was the best! !
Jimmy brought it home so well 😂

This is what happens when you don't have a scripted show like American late night shows. You get a genuinely witty, funny and interesting conversation on the couch. Graham makes magic with his guests, he brings out the best stuff out of them.
Yeah, I would say it's more loosely planned out than scripted. Graham gets all the stories beforehand from the guests and asks about them during the show which is why there's always a perfect segue between anecdotes and why the delivery of the anecdotes is always spot on.
They might do a rehearsal as well but yeah, after watching a ton of clips and episodes I'm sure that's how it's done.
In Ameria some stars stay past their segment for the other guests, because they are given the option to stay longer. Most decline. Competition for guests would make Norton's style unworkable in our market. They would simply go on the other shows that would let them promote their project and then leave.
yeah, or like Stern (well, back when he was raw and real, not the sanitised interviews today, but in his heyday he was beautifully irreverent and would create magic in that K-roq studio)
In fact the best times were when he'd get in A-list stars like Chappelle and David Duchovny and just bring in Beetlejuice to sit alongside them and comment intermittently in his inimitable way. Really was nothing quite like it....
@@TheTruthKiwi Graham (& the research team) does background researches to gather interesting facts and stories about the guests on the couch beforehand (not from the guests themselves), and then ask the guests about the stories to tell themselves. That’s why there are times when you see guests getting confused or not really sure what Graham was referring to when he asks them to tell a certain story (or at times like the one with Patrick Stewart, when Graham asks him about a certain story and said if Patrick’s not willing to share it’s OK not to tell).
Graham does rehearse his shows, but not with guests, he rehearses them with his staff, to test out how the effects and flow and of his questions will be like as the show proceeds. Personally I think he (& his research team) excels in using themes and topics that are common with multiple guests so that his interview can jump from one guest to another smoothly, and he also takes the effort to make sure all guests get to speak, be they Hollywood superstars or less well-known artists.
I love Robbie Williams, at least he's not fake with no personality. He just a genuine down to earth guy.
Apollyon 1975 actually YES he is a VERY genuine guy ! You clearly know nothing about him! And whatever him and his BEAUTIFUL wife get up to is none of anyone else’s business! Shut up! Hater !
@@Apollyon-sz9sn Wow. Is your tin foil hat made of lead?

"Where would we be without a sense of humour?" "Germany" hahahaha :D
That's funny. However, I wonder how much shit we'd get if he sang that verse of our anthem (which is not banned, but also not part of the official anthem anymore, the 3rd verse is the only official verse now) and we'd burst into applause, or worse, sang along with him. I can see the headlines: "80.000 people singing 'Germany, Germany above everything...etc. - National Socialism as strong as ever in Germany" or something ridiculous like that. If we boo him, we don't have a sense of humor. Well, well... make up your frickin' minds...
Laughed so hard, I nearly passed out🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
that was a good one😂 and I am from Germany
stefanvrd we are "effizient" not funny.
If i'm not mistaken the "Deutschland uber Alles" part was already in your national anthem and was there to emphesize the unity off all states like Bayern, Nord Rein Westfalen, Hessen and such, to unite under one flag. It has nothing to do with Socialism or the Nazi's.
lol "finally a leader" i cant stop laughing
I love how Emma looks at Robbie, suddenly realizing he's not just some pop star idiot, but a but a very smart man with deep feelings, and very VERY funny. He has great comedic timing, and his expressions? That sad look on his face after "the pub burned down" was perfect!
Idoubt she assumed that about him. They're from the same country and he's a mega-star so she must have heard him string some sentences together before that.
or perhaps shes just someone having a chat with someone who made a funny joke. settle down
Hi I am a foreigner to England but dying to know the joke of the bar burnt down. Would you be so kind to enlighten me with some context? Thank you.
@@vz6365pubs are a big part of British culture. Most brits have a favourite pub that they go to so he’s basically saying that his wife’s hoo ha after giving birth was like how it would be if his favourite pub burned down.
I like Robbie Williams, he comes across as a nice guy.
He is one of the most sweetest guys ever.
dilove356 Awesome
He's gorgeous in every way.
dee dender he thought he was tough and then ran away from a midget from manchester
I get the sense Robbie went through a long period in his life where he probably wasn't a nice guy and was a douchey pop star. But I think he's aged and recognizes that he was like that and really puts an effort into not being like that at all anymore.
by far the best talk show
For someone that was so successful and so spoiled, he seems like a truly down to earth and genuine person. I love this guy.
Robbie's comedic timing is pretty damn good. Hell of a story teller.
Just to put one thing straight: the "Lied der Deutschen" is not even a song composed by the Nazis, they just misused it. It was composed by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben in 1841 while staying at Helgoland, which was back then British. The first and second verse are just about the author's longing for a united Germany to call home and him praising the beauty of it (and its wine and women). Back in those days Germany was still split into several states but there was a movement trying to unite them all. Hence the line "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" (translating to "Germany, Germany above all"). It just means a united Germany above all those little German states. Nothing special at all and actually pretty peaceful compared with so many other national anthems.
When the Nazis came up they misused that song and it kind of got a new message: not anymore just a united Germany above those small states but a Germany ruling the world. They only used the first verse with the nowadays infamous line "Deutschland, Deutschland über alles" followed up by the horrible (and truly nazi) "Horst-Wessel-Lied". That's why it's offensive to sing that first verse nowadays. Today the official anthem is still the "Lied der Deutschen" but on official occasions only the third verse of that song is being sung/played starting with the line "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (translating to "Unity, justice and freedom").
But then: this story made me laugh so hard as he never intended to insult anyone with it. And then Jimmy Carr adding "Finally a leader!". Well, you gotta love British humour …
That's really interesting
I'm German and there are multiple(I'm not sure how many) verses and the reason why we don't sing the 1st (and 2nd?) not anymore is because the nazis abused it
+diotough Nazis took a lot of things and appropriated them. The salute which was originally for Olympic athletes and the svastika.
+diotough That's good to know. I'm mexican, I didn't understood why that was offensive. Thank you for the information :)
And the melody is taken from a string quartet by Haydn.
Aww you could tell Rob was itching to tell his Nuremberg story while Emma was telling hers. Gotta love Rob.
I felt that. For me, it's not because I think my story is better - it's because I don't want to forget it.
"Its was like my favorite pub burning down" ... the best and the funnyest delivered line ever on any talk show anywhere on the planet!!!
"it was like watching my favorite pub burning down" most perfect analogy for birth i've ever heard haha
this is one of the funniest bits of this show i've ever seen
I agree!!
Great analogy!! "It was like my favourite pub burning down" LOL
Robbie should write a book about hisi life
Yeah, like if he really is gay or thinks he's really the son of norman wisdom.
There are several books already, I've read them all
What a great idea! Other famous people could do it too. Books like that could even become a genre with their own name ... say ... autobiography. He could even get someone else to write the book and then call it ... say ... a biography. What an awesome idea ... why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Wait...
David Bowie There is one now called Reveal, a really good read, I warmly recommend it!
actually, he already has
And Emma Thompson used the "favourite pub" quote in Bridget Jones' Baby
Yes! Well spotted!
HAHAHA Jimmy Carr ''finally a leader!'' So funny.
He is quietly the wittiest guest on GN.
I agree, he seems pretty down to earth, Robbie Williams that is. He was honest enough about 'having everything done for him' he was quite open about that. My favourite song by him is Feel, some of the best lyrics I've ever heard.
I adore that song too...goosebumps! 🎼
i love 'feel' too, a golden oldie
Advertising Space for me.
Gender bender
Feels my fav..
Ok just in case people are confused at why the crowd were offended...
Robbie starts singing..."Deutchland Deutchland uber alles"....meaning "Germany, Germany above everything".
The song is called 'Deutschlandlied', and the first stanza, which started with that line was used during all major national events by the Nazi party, including the 1936 summer Olympics. Because of that, it has been strongly associated with the Nazi regime.
Hope that clears it up!
AziMeX just so u and other people who may not know. The first and second stanza of Deutschlandlied was written and used way before the Nazi’s came into power. The anthem certainly represented Nazi ideologies but wasn’t an anthem constructed solely for the Nazi’s.
it was prior Nazi regime for uniting Germany - much like we are going to have to do in the 'United' Kingdom after Brexit
Frederick Burkert that’s right. The country was newly unified and the anthem gave the Germans a sense of national pride.
A. Ferdosi he never said it wasn’t used before the nazi’s used it
The Editor which is why I said, “may not know”. Read the comment properly.

Omg, just watching Robbie struggle not to share his story while Emma is speaking 😂 he's literally dying to share it.
"Finally a leader!" Lol love this interview robbie Williams is hilarious and a living legend
"Finally, a leader!" -- hahaha brilliant quick wit.
Robbie's been killing it on chat shows lately. Outstanding anecdotes. Great guest. G'wan Robbie, lad!
"Where would we be without a sense of humour?... Germany!" 😂😂😂
"It was like my favorite pub burning down..." *gazes into the distance while reliving the horror*
Emma is just insanely beautiful.
Yep, I love her!
Whatever she's wearing, this 26 year old thinks she's unbelievably attractive.
Yes she is always looking good mate :)
+Samalamamdam
Thankyou :D
Oh, you mean Thompson...okay. Yeah I agree.
Inside and out.
Robbie Williams is now my favorite ever GN SHOW guest.
Miriam Margolyes though...
See Olivia Colman...very unintentionally funny
Robbies inner dialogue is legendary.
I never knew Robbie Williams was that funny. Last time i saw him on the graham norton show, he told the funniest hotel story. If you haven\t seen it, youtube it! I think it's was one of the newer ones.
Exactly, I just didn't want to leave a spoiler.
Testacorsa well the spoiler is in the title soo, Yeah
Sorry where? Neither castle room or handjob is mentioned.
Oh, never mind. I see under the youtube suggestions there is a video with that in the title. I don't like spoilers... :)
Testacorsa
Robbie Williams, now that he’s not drunk or coked off his head any more, is hilarious. A witty, funny, warm, wonderful ranconteur, and an endless source of hilarious stories.....
It was like my fave pub burning down!! HAHAHA
LMAO!!! I spit pop all over my screen!!!
I dont get it!!????
I'd gladly accept Robbie as our new leader
Me too! :D :D In a heartbeat.
2:54 omg his laugh 😂 😂 😂
Lol Jimmy Carr always laughs like that he is so funny unlike Graham Norton's laugh that just sounds so false
Richard Savage
Richard Savage Graham's laugh is adorable!
Maliha Intikhab that's Jimmy carrs laugh
Callum Smith i know. I was just replying to someone who called graham's laugh fake.
ahahahah my favourite pub burning down. Totally gonna use that when my kid gets here
What does it means?
@thetopherhaslanded Thanks for explaining, mate!! *;)* Half-Italian/half-French here, good in English but I sometimes get very frustrated when I see the audience laugh for half an hour on shows like this one whereas I can't get the joke... -__-
He heard that joke in Australia on the radio from the fan
Nah, prolly from Russell peters. That joke is old AF
Congratulations man!
If you're looking for the part where he tells the story of how he offends his fans, start at 4:30
You da real MVP!
You're a G
the whole interview is hilarious...trust me watch it
3 queens together
Robbie is one of my idols, I think this guy is awesome.
hahahahahh "where would we be without a sense of humor?-germany" hahaaahah the last phrase...
This is by far one of my favourite episodes. Plus when David Tennant and Matt Smith came later, it was just a blast. I love when there is couch full of Brits, you know you're in for a ride, their humour is just impeccable.
And Irish (Graham) and Scottish (Tennant) - I think you may have meant guests from the UK
Conversation like this--and from guests like these, just never happens in any other show. Norton's is the best!
I love the British sense of humour.
its just so refreshing!
This is the Real Robbie.
I have never ever heard Graham laugh so uncontrollably than that moment at 2:03!! Absolutely hilarious!
That's what I was thinking!! And he has some funny people on that couch!
"It was like my favorite pub burning down" :-D But he was so sweet when he talked about Ayda and his daughter! He really loves them, you can see that :-)
1:48 The Story about his favourite pub burning down made me laugh for ages and I mean ages & 6:05 when he looks at Emma, his nodding head 🤣🤣
How can anyone not love Robbie Williams?! I'm in America and wish to God he'd perform here. They don't know what they're missing...such charisma, humor and talent all rolled up in one gorgeous soul!
I adore how Emma is looking at Robbie while he's talking about his songs about his family and what they mean to him.
I have watched this maybe a hundred times, and it never failed to cheer me up and give me a break from depression.
this guest line-up is just brilliant, they go so well together
As an ignorant American, I’ve just now started seeing clips. It’s beyond funny! Glad to see it!
Welcome to British humour ;)
Jimmy Carr almost steals the story though. Last line FTW.
Robbie always tells hilarious stories when he's on Graham's show
I could watch these three tell stories for hours
whoa. English audiences are so much better than American ones
Elise Horton - Or is it just that Graham presents audiences with wonderful good fun to watch and participate in, as compared with America's formulaic shows?
Now you know where to perform your spinning dinner plate act.
El H , Irish audiences are the best and the loudest
@@myanniebannie1981 YES!
It's better bc it's not scripted
Emma's reaction to "my favourite pub" line..... Just gets me everytime
Has to be one of the best talk show clips I have ever seen. Sooo funny and natural, guests and host interacting like friends in a dinner party, just catching up and laughing.
"..finally, a leader" Robbie is a really good story teller.
5 years later I still come back for some good laugh, so funny all the way through!
This episode was so much better than the Deniro one, everyone from Graham, to the guests and audience were so relaxed, and there was no fear of offending anyone.
Deniro is the rare guest where any host is excited to have him, where it's equally as awkward and straining to try and have a conversation with him
Hilarious interview. Well worth watching. I don't think Emma Thompson or Jimmy Carr did Robbie's relationship any favours with their " live with the ruins" and "No tread left on that tyre" contributions!
hard to stop that train when it gets rolling, you go to some dark places.
ViDeOMaStErPaUl ZING!
Hilarious how Robbie's pub burning down joke has made its way into a Bridget Jones movie and James Corden's show also. Quite a one-liner.
That's why we love you Rob....
This is a perfect example of why having multiple guests on at once makes for a great talk show, casual sit down and conversations happen and the guests can bounce off one another and properly get to know them. I'm glad this is I believe the only one of it's kind because that's what makes it special. Other shows do it sometimes but it's usually if the host asks if they want to stay for the next guest or if it's with the cast of a movie, whereas Norton brings on three guests with their own projects happening and they get to have banter and that's really a special quality in his show, if not the most special.
i like the way he said "you have a beautiful foo"
I absolutely love 💕💙😘 Robbie williams 🤩 I also like his streaks very nice !
Robbie could really be a comic if he wanted to
His natural inflexions and speaking tempo is interesting to the ears
"Finally, a leader!" Lmao I died!
"It was like my favourite pub burning down" I love Graham's laughing fit that follows xD
I just rewatch this every time i need to cheer up! Always makes me laugh out loud! Thank you Robbie&Emma&Graham! 🌟🌟🌟
You can see that second his eyes connect with the camera and there's just a glimmer of "Sorry not sorry" and it's beautiful.
Genuinly never heard Graham laugh as hard as when Robbie told him it was like his favorite pub burning down
"what she doesnt realise about me, is that im an unconscious Persian"
Genuinely made me cry with laughter. Robbie should do a few standups, hes got special funny bones
From an American standpoint. This was a great group to have together.
Jimmy is a comedy genius. But Robbie Williams can hold his own as well. As for Emma. That lady is amazing! Great story teller!!! Not to mention looks fabulous!!!!
I've always loved the way, Emma Thompson looks at someone when they a talking.
"...favorite pub burning down..." one of the most epic TGNS moments :D This and "Girls over 12" :D
Love him, he is just so unique
Robbie’s lack of a filter is so awesome…
Great fun conversation with witty remarks. Love it! Graham Norton has the best show.
.......and I love his sense of humor !
when graham has American guests on the show you never know if the episode will be successful or stiff, but with British guests you never guess, they come with great energy and you're 100% entertained .
He's slimmed down quite a bit since he was on that show. What a gem.
Love how much fun they have with their conversation.
never laughed as much loved it "its like my fave pub burning down....
"sorry ada u av a lovely foo"
love it!!!
Easily one of the best moments on the couch!
My dad and I still randomly quote “it was like watching my favorite pub burn down” all the time.
Maybe the funniest moment ever on a TV talk show. Never gets old.
So real.. People who say witnessing child birth is "beautiful" either never seen one or are extremely weird.. The new life might be great but the process to bring them into the world is nasty, and traumatic when you're used to its typical function.
I think “childbirth is beautiful” is a Clive barker quote
Wish Robbie was on more often , I like his humor.
Love honesty
It's so much funnier when it comes from reality
perfect combination of guests
Emma, Robbie & Jimmy plus Graham....perfection!
Americans don't see enough of Robbie Williams....I think we'd all friggin love him. Self aware, funny, love the ladies, kinda cocky but in a silly way.
I loved this! The whole episode was GREAT!
Whatever happens, don't mention the war. I said it once but I think I got away with it.
+rosserm11 would you like some hors d'oeurves, hors d'oeurves........ orders.......... which must be obeyed at all times!!
Basil!
DON'T MENTION THE WAR POLLY
aye mr. fawlty!
It's funny how you can't mention war in front of German people, yet the people whose ancestors were victims have no problem with talking about it with humour.
That Robbie thing of his relationship with a crowd became "Sensational" off Heavy Entertainment Show.
This was a great edition, I have to say, they were all brilliant... And Robbie was adorable when he was discussing taking care of Teddy.
This is why i'll always have a soft spot for the Robster! 😂😂 cheeky, but we always want more 😜 !!
I love Robbie Williams, hes gorgeous, hes funny and he's so down to earth 💜😂😂😂
I like the fact that he still pronounces 'look' the cottect way. You beautiful Stokey brute you Robbie duck.
No matter how ridiculous he can be he always wins me over when he is on any chat show, he does it naturally because he is genuine
I'm convinced that when this series ends, and Graham publishes his top 10 most iconic comments of all time, Robbie Williams will account for 8 of them!! Including the "maid" at the castle
