We now have the full card gallery for Bloomburrow, so it's set review time! In this video I break down every black card in the set and give my thoughts about them for Limited.
What my grades mean:
I use a letter grade system, and my grades usually fall into a bell curve (Very few A’s and F’s, lots of C’s.)
A - Bombs that are always your first pick, they completely warp the game in your favor, and they easily pull you into their color(s). You always first pick these. These are cards you are ecstatic to have in your deck. Most sets have 15-20 of these. Tend to mostly be Mythics or Rares, though sometimes an Uncommon gets there.
(Crabomination, Detective’s Phoenix, Nadu, Winged Sidom)
B - Premium removal spells and highly efficient creatures, often worth first picking. Still strong enough to pull you into their colors, but not quite as game or draft warping as A’s are. These are cards you feel good about having in your deck, and you would play several copies of most of them. Mostly Uncommons and higher, but there are usually 5-10 commons that get there too.
(Ajani Fells the Godsire, Depth Defiler, Marionette Apprentice)
C - Filler. These are cards you neither feel good or bad about having in your deck. You play them if you’re in their colors, but they don’t tempt you to go into their color at all. Usually includes reasonably efficient creatures, good combat tricks, and removal spells. These appear at all rarities, but are most frequently Common. (Scurrilous Sentry, Evolution Witness, Molten Gatekeeper)
D - Playable in an emergency. These are cards that you don’t feel so good about playing, but in a pinch, sometimes you just have to play them. These are often inefficient vanilla creatures or overly narrow cards. These appear at all rarities. (Corrupted Shapeshifter, Sarpadian Simulacrum, Hydra Trainer)
F - Unplayable. These are cards that you should never play. There are very few of these in modern Limited formats, but they do appear at all rarities, with the most usually appearing at Rare and Common. These are cards whose effects are pretty much useless or overly narrow. (Echoes of Eternity, Harbinger of the Seas, The Creation of Avacyn)
There are two categories of cards that I give two grades to: Build Arounds and Sideboard Cards.
Build Around: These are cards that need special synergy to be at their best - synergy that won’t just come naturally. For these cards, I give one grade indicating how I think the card will perform in a typical deck of that color, and another grade if you manage to get there on synergy. (Ugin’s Binding, Aether Revolt, Consuming Corruption)
Sideboard Cards: These are generally cards that are Ds or Fs in your mainboard, but can perform much better out of the sideboard - at least as a C or higher. We see less of these today than we used to, since so many cards are modal.
(Null Elemental Blast, Consign to Memory)

Valley Rotcaller won’t count itself so it needs other creatures to drain.
Talk to me nice, talk to me nice, I don’t want to talk if you’re not gonna talk to me nice.
Maybe at the end of each year a video on which color (multicolored colorless, bombs, cars you should stop playing)does the best view wise for the set review
I like the idea but I think having best in X categories like the academy awards would be cool.
Best instant of 2024
Best sorcery
Etc
@@OneOfDisease this is a bit disingenous to OP's idea, maybe doing both award show, or the nizzanotes of the year , turned into nizza-stats maybe.
There are a LOT of common and uncommon 2 mana 1/3s in this set between blue and Black. I guess they made it so the format would be slower and those creatures can block efficiently, not being trampled by the token decks.
I am busy this weekend, but I'll watch each video in full when I have time. Have a good weekend!
I just checked: there is only one card with the type snail in Magic and it’s Skullcap Snail from LCI. So that card is in standard. I wonder if a deck can be brewed out of this
Well… there are slugs 😂
Damn, Stargaze's art is insane! So good!
Dang. There are more doom blades in this set than I've ever seen.
Will be cool if there's a table of percentages of synergistic/relevant cards. Hard to do with rushed videos but will ultimately make your set review apart from the rest. Eg, let's say a card has a blink ability, it becomes relevant to show the number of instant removals and etb effects available in the set. If a card has expend 4, it becomes relevant to show the number of 4 mana cost common/uncommon cards that are at least the rating of c.
Darkstar Augur seems SO good. Probably the best offspring in the set IMO.
Is it just me or are there suprisingly few cards that actually create food tokens compared to how much food payoff there is?
Maybe i missed something, but excluding the "gift a food"-stuff there was... one (the class enchantment)?
Wait for green
There five(six) commons that make or are food(One is white so not in the food colours)
Then two more at uncommon.
If we look at the food sets. Wilds had 10 commons and 13 uncommons, lords had 9 commons and 8 uncommons, Throne had 13 commons and 5 uncommon.
So yeah, you not missing anything major, plus there no non rare card that can repeatable make food token(And there only one rare that can) so I'm also wondering how well the green black deck will function. Guess it depends on the graveyard side of forage.
I like how target player sacs their highest pretty creature gets around all kinds of protection.
Have we ever had a typal format where each color pair has it's own type before? It's usually just each color has 1 or 2 types, But I think this way might be better? I'm really interested to see how it shakes out, I especially like the duo cards helping to bridge two types with similarish strats.
Great vid as always!
I think Zendikar Rising has the same of typal/mechanic system, with a creature type and associated mechanic for the color pairs, but that was only for 4 of the color pairs.
hey, so the cruelclaw card, seems really good, as the gifted card could be the one stolen it is essentially the instant of innistrad, the dimir. Dunno remember the final score of that, but this seems better, as in heavy black decks it can mean stealing a bomb from a great hand, or crucial spell from a shaky hand. On top of that making it exile is meaningful as you said there are 2 GY decks.
Question: Which has the better art: this set or Wilds of Eldraine? You have the deadly-serious life-and-death struggle of cute creatures vs. the hilariously demented Brothers Grimm setting that went from G-rated Disney to Quentin Tarantino.
Nocturnal hunger you failed to mention you may have to give them a food if you are playing against anyone who cares if opponents lose life. It is an instant so you might be playing in during their turn.
Doesn't it feel like we have seen too much gain/lose life payoffs, but hardly any enablers?
Great videos man watch them ever set always help fun
I never had the opportunity to draft but still watch every video just because its a good objective evaluation of new cards.
how does sacrificing a food for forage cost work? Does cracking it for the heal count as a sacrifice? Or do you just yeet the food and thats that?
You just sacrifice it as a cost. So you don’t pay mana or gain life, it just gets sacrificed.
The bots like Black.
Damn half the comments are bots right now 😅
What is all this bot talk on this channel? I've seen them recently, do they really viewbot?
Ur mom likes it too
do i have to choose the creature that gets -x-x with Wicks Patrol before i see the cards getting milled?
No, after the mill.
Hey wait a second, I got a major problem with your assessment of “Coiling Rebirth”, 4:41 .
This set already has “create a 1/1 token copy” of creatures already built in, with offspring. This essentially gives every creature in your graveyard offspring, just by gifting. There’s actually 7 cards whose mana cost + offspring cost are 5 or more, so it’s actually just as efficient if not more efficient for those creatures. Offspring itself is also a powerful mechanic, so this card seems way more powerful than you give it credit for considering it has offspring built in. So, the gift is worth it if the offspring for that card is worth a card or more, like with Thornplate Intimidator.
Thornplate Intimidator is indeed a nice thing to get back with Coiling Rebirth, but when you factor in the set up cost and the fact that...y'know, you aren't going to have thornplate intimidator or something else worthwhile all the time, and it's just not a great card.
Maha is truly ridiculously overpowered. I feel like it's going to be the new play it, opponent scoops for a lot of decks.
Downwind Ambusher feels like a new Flametongue Kavu. Can take down a 5 toughness attacker at instant speed? NICE.
Outside of Limited, imagine a Hoggark deck with Huskburster Swarm. OUCH!!!!
28:00 wow that's amass snail if im reading it right?
Not exactly, but sort of.
amass snail 🐌😈
Art on this set looks amazing. Set looks aggressive and fast.
wind drake is the nizzahon community’s pariah 😔 😂
Are we not doing A-'s and A+'s this set?
I say, before I saw Rottenmouth Viper's grade lol
Rottenmouth Viper was an A-
After OTJ i kinda glad we got synergy-focused set with normal amount of rares in boosters and no A+ bombs.
He has given some A-'s, but I can't believe he didn't give Maha an A+ .
Lots of removal in black. I wonder how oppressive it’ll be in limited, because if any of these cards is too good it’ll end up boosting mono black in standard, which’ll be fun for nobody on Arena
Removal tends to be bad in token formats. I think black will be the worst color.
@@pewwwwooop Yeah. Between offspring and there being multiple graveyard archetypes in this set, removal feels pretty bad.
wow they just printed two bobs stuck together
we did it boys. we finally have a 2 mana instant that says "destroy target creature". (no restrictions)
Sorcery
@@aleksanderborkowski1973 oh sorry I thought it was instant
Zero views in five seconds? This channel has fallen off xD
RIP xD
I'm shitting blood, does anyone know what I can do?
I'm scared.
I would recommend seeing a doctor if it's a lot of blood. A small amount may be as simple as the result of a large bowel movement straining things. If that's the case, it's not something you really need to worry about. If it's a lot of blood, definitely see a doctor.
Damn, you huskbursted?
