I'm 74 now and spent my entire employed life in our US Merchant Service. We bought a 58 acre farm, Cape and a half style house with 2 chimneys on the main house in the "L", a barn and milking parlor, and a blacksmith shop in the state of Maine, USA. Our oldest son Jon will be 51 this December, he attended Maine Maritime Academy as I had graduated in 1973. He grew riding the John Deere tractor I had purchased, cut the fields, split the wood with it's hydraulic splitter and helped me build a 56 foot fish dragger in our barn. Jon and our youngest David both view your channel. We marvel at your consistent craftsmanship and attention to detail with RAN III. Thank you all for this truly unique channel, we love each episode.
I just woke up and dreamed that I had visited your farm and helped building the boat. it was a very pleasant dream :) I want to build my very own boat one day. I have been sailing for about 10 years now (I'm 19), mostly on just lakes, but one day I will sail the world and build my own boat just like you are doing right now. This channel is my favorite by far and it is very nice seeing y'all live my dream :D I simply just love building stuff and I love sailing.
Turn the dream into reality contact them and offer some help, you will learn a lot this man is a master and belongs to a very elite group of people in the world. Go and be inspired.
Thanks! I am thankful for the inspiring work you are doing and for the creative and low-key manner in which you are sharing it. No ‘manufactured drama’, just great story telling. Love it!!
This was a real treat. Thanks for sharing the views from Amsterdam, the island, and the boat show. I'm amazed at the quality of the microphone and how well it filtered-out the sound of the wind and waves at the beach. Your advice on long projects to take a break to get energized and get inspired is spot-on! This is something I need to remember from time-to-time.
"Vera's staying with her Grandmothers", will be a very special treat for them! As a Grandfather myself I know. All of the floor reinforcement will be very important to transmit power between the keel and the rig.
So pleasant to see the two sailing families I have followed and admired so much since their RUclips beginnings, together at the trade show! Greeting, and a huge thank you, from an English armchair sailor in Gothenburg...
You are so good at creating engaging build videos that I forgot how good you are at telling travel stories! Thanks for taking us along on your travels~!
So happy you enjoyed Amsterdam and Vlieland. You must remember how tricky it must have been to enter the marina with your sailboat RAN fighting the cross current!
What a nice video especially the part of Vlieland. We met you there in 2021 while Vera was playing on the playground near the shop for bread etc. Great respect of all your work and that we can follow the making of RAN
The barrier coat is a brilliant idea and should prove beneficial in the future, there is a sense of remembering the issues of previous hulls to want to make this one more user friendly. It will be easier to drain and to keep clean and dry. Good thinking.
3D PRINTING ... those are great little jigs you created for aligning the floor pieces. I recently got a 3d printer for 1 specific need on my boat ... and then I started printing all sorts of little things to help around the boat. It might be worth considering, as you move to the interior fit out I can imagine it being very helpful.
Just catching up. What a marvelous episode. Have been to Amsterdam so many time when we lived in Germany and the few scenes of the homes and canals made me home sick.
Holy, what a Huge boat show!! Next time bring roller skates!!😂....Truly, I'm So Glad you had a brief escape together! My favorite photo was the selfie at the end--You both looked So content, happy, and restful! You are a Great couple! You've both worked So Hard and steady for a few years, you deserve a restful getaway!! You'll be into the fun stuff soon and before you know it you'll be back to that beautiful beach again!🎉
OMG 😱, guys‼️ The METS show was huge ‼️ 12 halls that full for each one; how could anyone see everything in only 3 days. What a place to visit and shop.💥 The flooring and stringers are coming. Along great. Lots of work for sure. Totally agree that it is mentally profitable to keep the finish project in mind now and again to remember what you are ac working for. 👍🏻👍🏻 BTW, my bride and I love Amsterdam🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️⚓️🏝️👙🌞✨
It was good to see you take a break and also to hear you reminisce about past travels - both good and bad. I’ve watched every single one of your vlogs and was reminded of your seasickness and also some of the treacherous conditions under which you sail. I enjoyed your walk about and it was nice to see you enjoying each other’s company. And just like that, back to the build - hopefully, with some new-found enthusiasm!
These stringers on the deck of the boat give the video alot of depth and shows you how big this boat is your building it's pretty massive seeing you stand in there. I'm looking forward to seeing this build progress, I've been following mjsailing for few yrs now it's been a journey and I was hesitant to commit that much time into seeing your build because I'm sure it's will be several yrs also but I haven't seen a mono be built and I think your little family is what makes your videos, the side adventures and little vacations you do add a nice touch to the channel. Thanks again.
When tackling such a long and often arduous, gruelling project it is imperative to take physical and mental breaks! Needed time and relaxation to keep the dream alive and to remember why you started in the first place. The yacht is looking fabulous and I think it is going to get very fun when you are putting together the living spaces and decks! I can't wait!!! 😊
Great episode. Love the build but loved the break. The balance you guys always show along with that insane grit gives us great hope for a long and satisfying life, whether anyone's watching or not.
It's nice to see how you two are doing. I've watched you now for several years and still think you are two of the nicest people on RUclips. May good fortune be on your journey in this build.
Great, you both a break. The boat is getting ready for some big fittings. I am excited , when you all start to had the keel and rudder . Tanks, fuel and water . Wiring, insulation. Cabinets. Wow exciting. ❤
So nice to see Vlieland in your video! This is also one of our favorite places. And we once had the same experience going through the channel... it really can be scary. Thanks once again for your great video series!
Loved seeing your old footage from 2016 & 2021 with your current island visit. What a nice way to remember past travels. Enjoyed this episode and your visit to the show. Only one thing missing, current Vera!
I lived in Wijk aan Zee Netherlands for two years and your trip reminded me of the beautiful surroundings I once had,Very relaxing place indeed! You three have done some amazing journeys together and this new boat will definitely be the best decision you made! The light at the end of the tunnel is ahead! Fantastic workmanship on Ran 2. Well done! Looking forward to seeing every step ahead Best regards from England
Great job on the videos and the build. Sorry to miss you at METS as I normally go but I don’t miss the aching feet! Will try for Boot (Düsseldorf) instead
I must ne some kind of softie but I always like to see you two in a loving state. Amsterdam is a great city. Your floor frame is looking very good n straight. Soon you'll be laying down flooring. Closing into Winter, stay warm.
Funny to see an empty marina on Vlieland. I was there for the first time this year on my way from Denmark to France / UK. It's without a doubt the most hectic (singlehand) docking experience i've ever had: 50+ children swimming in the marina between boats (i've never seen that happen in such a high quantity), even more on SUP-boards and a dosen dinghy's as well. All of them going about their day without noticing me squeezing around the super packed marina looking for a free box and later trying to get into a very tight spot in the marina. I have to admit i was feeling the pressure while docking in such a tight space and at the same time having to keep clear of a bunch of kids and adults (i assume non-captains, since they didn't make way) 😅 Pretty sure i visited during the peak of the peak season-wise. They closed entry into the marina shortly after i arrived, so 20+ boats had to anchor outside. But i agree, Vlieland is a really nice spot. Texel, Terschelling and the other Frisian islands are definitely also worth a visit!
I remember when you went to that island in 2016! If I recall, your boat and rigging were frozen and encased in ice when you left the harbor in Sweden! Time flies by!
Johan, pace yourself brother, you're looking super tired! Speaking just for myself I would be happy to see Ran Sailing once a fortnight so you can have more time to yourself and family!
Vlieland and Cape Cod (Northeast USA) have much in common between the terrain ashore and navigational challenges, both described and shown. Thanks for the videos showing how to build a boaat so well! One structural question about the keel grid: Does epoxy fiberglass when cured have sufficient holding strength by itself versus torsion loads through the hull? I might be missing something about how the keel assembles to the keel grid to keep the hull strong and tight. -- Blessings, S/V Windwalker

Jon is a chief engineer on a Drill Ship.
Mama! Look, I'm in RUclips! 😄
It was super nice to see you guys! I hope you got some good contacts and ideas there! 😊
It was great talking to someone facing a similar crazy project! 😄 See you next year!
Yeah, I saw you at 5:25. What a coincidence.
Lovely couple, very hard working. May your dreams come true.

Thank you so much for supporting our production! It really means a lot to us 🥰
Good to see you met up with Sailing Uma Dan and Kika and Duca and Roberta too, wow 3 of my favorite channels together at the same time...cheers
Was Roberta there? I saw Duca twice, but didn't see Roberta.
@@oleran4569 Duca and Roberta went to the Metz show together, I'm sure that happened on their channel
❤
Amazing to watch the progress of the boatbuilt!
The two of you cuddled up by the fire @12:35. ❤
Both of you need time away to rekindle the fire and keep your dreams alive.
Thanks for sharing.
I second that, no way to say it politely, but these guys are too big, and too good, to need to deal with YT burnout!
It was good to see you two take a break for yourselves.

It was fantastic to see you two taking some much deserved time for yourselves. Thanks for sharing.
Stringers looking really good! Great job but also glad to see you step away for a relaxing dose of inspiration at the boat show.
RAN still by far one of the best DIY boat & sailing channel!
We love your work, your family...and your travels!
Cheers
Netherlands! woo hooo! MUCH LOVE!
Whoever does the music picks for these episode is a GOAT, adds so much
Thanks!
Thank you RAN for 419...

Nice that you visit Amsterdam - The Netherlands I live there 👍
Good to see the New Zealand flag on display at the Metstrade show 🙂
That is a very good show, but you got to have deep pockets for the quality stuff.
I love the careful high quality build of your dream boat.😍👍
Nice to see on the video other boat builders I am watching also ❤
I had a friend whose mother was born there. He visited with cousins over eight years ago.
So nice to see you in my country and city!! Thank you for the video, i watch them all. Grtz. From the Netherlands

One of my favourite stills at 12:35. ❤
Ein sehr abwechslungsreiches und zugleich schönes Video. Euch gelingt immer wieder die Balance zwischen den Arbeiten am Boot und Familie.
Hey nice to see all of the progress and how exciting to go to such a big venue for boat accessories and materials 🎉s

as always super interesting
Love to see you talking to Duca from Odd Life Crafting at 5:27. Funny to see you both since he is building an aluminum sail boat.
Beautiful video today. May God continue to bless you.
