For a guy who lost his whole family in the holocaust and managed to escape from a Nazi concentration camp at 7 years of age (with help from family friends), Polanski had a traumatic childhood. He hid for the rest of the war in Southern France. Later a convicted murderer (pretending to sell Polanski a bicycle when he was a teenager) attempted to murder Polanski leaving him near death. It's hard to imagine why Polanski, who survived all this, would do what he did with this 13 year old girl.

Roman committed a crime, there is no doubt or argument about that. However, maybe you all should be projecting some of that anger toward the judge overseeing the case. HE couldn't keep his big mouth shut, then he decided to circumvent the law due to his own bias, and he potentially set Roman up for an automatic appeal that could have gone in his favour--had Roman stayed. Basically, the judge committed judicial misconduct and should have been removed instead of recusing himself. Seriously, had any of the lawyers spouted off about the case, he would have had them jailed for contempt of court and in front of an ethics review board. You wanna throw rocks? In this particular case, it was not "rape" in the sense of brute force violence, but it was mainly because of her age. Roman committed a crime, there is no doubt or argument about that. However, maybe you all should be projecting some of that anger toward the judge overseeing the case. HE couldn't keep his big mouth shut, then he decided to circumvent the law due to his own bias, and he potentially set Roman up for an automatic appeal that could have gone in his favour--had Roman stayed. Basically, the judge committed judicial misconduct and should have been removed instead of recusing himself. Seriously, had any of the lawyers spouted off about the case, he would have had them jailed for contempt of court and in front of an ethics review board.

I think you're a little confused... The fact that is was Polanski mattered only because he is famous. All the people condemning Polanski actually would be shocked if it were any man. And could be less shocked if it were a 13 year old boy, but still they would be shocked. Most adults in the western world, under the influence of american culture mostly, think of 13 year old as little kids, even 15 year olds as little kids. So the idea of them having sex at all is against their mindsets.

The law in the US states that no intercourse with a minor is consensual, whether the minor consented or not. In this particular case, it was not "rape" in the sense of brute force violence, but it was mainly because of her age. Nevertheless, he actually coerced the girl, gave her alcohol/drugs, and manipulated her into doing things she otherwise wouldn't feel like doing. But...it's also pretty common amongst adults to regret by early morning what they did the night before. Social standards...

The physical evidence backed up what happened, he's been accused 6 other times, tried to flee the state after he left her, has a long history of sexual abuse & womanbeating, there are multiple witnesses including a Rape Trauma Specialist that she was traumatized & he admits he likes hurting women sexually & said "they called me a rapist & a recluse. I'm not a recluse". He wasn't a fall guy he was guilty.
