one of the endless marvels of Italy, my country :) Matera is going to be the European culture capital next year, so just have a trip there ;) unfortunately it isn't linked very well to other cities and to the rest of the world, in fact there isn't a train station neither... but as any of you who travelled to south Italy know, you're better rent a car rather than using public transports... and don't skip visit the seaside of Basilicata, Matera's region and the next cities, like Bari, Taranto, etc... wonderful cities, seasides, excellent food and charming people!!
you've got plenty of marvellous littel towns full of history and beauties to visit in that region and in Puglia, too!! and absolutely taste the typical bread they do there! there's no better one! and the fruits and vegetables... and, you'll probably know it already, you don't want to miss Salento... in the summer you breathe magic in the air... I come from the north of Italy and when I arrive there, I simply start breathing something magic I just can't explain.. the air, the sea, the food, the sun.... it's like suddenly falling in a parallel dimension :)
Those mushrooms can be found everywhere in Italian supermarkets or fruit and veg open markets, because they are extensively cultivated in several places in Italy and then sold. So they are not found in the woods.
Such a lovely little place to stay in, and what an amazing town to explore! Thanks for another inspirational travel video! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, wherever the two of you are! Best Regards from Maxi and Maro.
Wow! What a fascinating city! I have never heard about It before! I'm very eager to see next videos about the city attractions! And I want a coffee machine like that in my house!!!
Thank you! It sure is a fascinating city and quite underrated. I think mainly because of where it is located in the southern part of Italy. We've got two food vlogs and a city guide coming out soon from Matera. Oh, the coffee machine is definitely a #lifegoal to have someday :)
Bruno Gambini And Just think the fact that half-caves houses were cold in summer, hot in winter, due to they entered in part in the ground, and slope and rain kept place almost clean... But in 1950s, governments declared Matera indecent, as human beings must not live in caves as troglodites. They built a new city of public-popular housing and forced people to leave their home-caves for these new anonymous houses. After 1986 the Sassi of Matera were rediscovered in their beauty and ecologic value again.
Wow, what a neat place. You should get some Italian sausage for the pasta throw a can of crushed tomatoes can of whole tomatoes (cut them up) a little vinager peppers onions some water to with the sauce and boy is that good. Get some wine. You get the picture. Lol. Have a nice stay in your cave.. Best wishes from Bethlehem pa.
Loved the apartment tour! Fell in love with that spectacular coffee machine! Hopefully you find some friendly dogs and cats close to your place! :D I can't wait to watch your food videos from Matera.. pasta yum yum!
Hi Guy's, That space age coffee machine looked slightly outta place in a cave, Ha ha ! One can never have too many plastic bags. Great picture quality by the way ! Stay safe guys. Jim.
I love watching you and your adventures 😊 for me, it is one of the best travel channels in YT. 👏🏼 But please Audrey, let Samuel talk alone sometime 😄 you interrupt him very often.
Such a cute apartment! The cantilevered toilets in Italy always make me anxious. They groan when I sit on them and I worry that my fat butt will break them. LOL :)
That is neat as settled housing, but would have to really appreciate local area to make sure nice fit. Rammed earth diy building has natural tones, healthy, and makes affordable housing to save for travel : ) Going so many different places is a great opportunity to pick up home design tips/ tricks as hobby one day if art is your thing.
My oh my how I love the apartment/airbnb tours! It would be much better if they were drawn out a bit more. They are just too short. : ) You know I love you guys!
I noticed Audrey has a Spanish channel! How cool. Your English is perfect, and your Spanish is too! Very cool! Were you born overseas and from where, before you moved to Canada, such that your Espagnol is immaculate?
Well, strictly speaking that is not a cave house at all, as it has not been excavated into the rock. That is a normal ancient house built with stones. Matera has a mixture of houses like that and caves houses that are much older. The sinks have been created with beautiful traditional earthen and glazed kitchenware.
Tell me I'm NOT imagining things. I know I saw your video made at a restaurant in Zurich serving some kind of a gourmet veal dish. I remember Sam's description of the sauce etc. It was made just before lunch and appeared they let you all in ahead of time to do your video. I have looked through all your videos and cannot find it. Help plllllease!!!
Hey there from Australia! No, you're not imagining it I watched it again just the other day and I can't for the life of me remember what video it is in. I searched Switzerland, Zurich, veal etc Now you have me searching!
I'll be in Zurich in April and wanted to have the same thing. I think it may be Zeughauskeller. I saw Mark Wiens video and he ate here. I think that's the one where Sam and Audrey ate but wanted to verify.
Just think how many people have walked those same steps in the last few thousands of years. Amazing!
Thanks! We had that same thought :)
Beautiful beautiful place. Just love Italy in every way possible.
Thanks! This was one of the most memorable places we stayed at last year.
hi guys!!! trafilatura al bronzo means that the pasta is made with a bronze "machine". they say the quality is better
One has to stay cosy and cheerful in such stony town! Look forward to following you in your travels!
Thank you for showing your airbnb! Wow! The mushrooms were so white! I absolutely love your videos! Please keep going!
Thank you very much! This is one of the coolest places we've ever stayed at.
Great video as always guys, beautifully filmed and well presented...Matera is now on my wish list!
Thank you very much! We'll have a guide coming out today showing the city aside from just food experiences. We highly recommend visiting :)
I've been watching you guys for a long time, but I'm really enjoying you guys doing the apartment tours. Keep up the good work.
What an amazing place, so beautiful and rustic and historic. I love it, thanks for all these great videos, I learn so much 😄
OMG this place is beautiful!!! What a great find! Thanks for the awesome tour you guys!
The espresso machine is a nice touch to the cavey ambience of the place. 😊👍🏼

The apartment looked so cozy and home-y. I like the stone and wood scheme. :) the mushrooms were so white! I bet that tasted so good too. :)

New jacket, more hair and new hats for 2018 videos but I'm afraid this combo will be appearing quite a bit until we're done this Italy series.
