I have great luck with CFE 223 with 120 gr BT.
I run a 105gr MKZ over a stout charge of n530 in a 24" upper from Sanders armory and get a little over 2800 fps out of it. Groups normally hover around 1/2 moa, but sometimes get closer to 1/4. I'm using hornady brass, and get a fair number of fliers that open groups up to 3/4. 123gr factory ammo generally gives 3/4 at 2600. 123gr reloads over 8208 runs 2500, but stays 1/2 or under.
Out of all the AR cals I love this cal. just about perfect.
I shot a regular 6.5 grendel AR space gun last year. 28" barrel. Ended up using the 107 non tipped matchking with a stout load of benchmark. 2825 fps. I could get 2875 but was a brass killer. Tried 80208, tax, h335, and a few others but benchmark was the most accurate. Wanted to try some of the power pro stuff but never did. Lever evolution did good with the 130 vld but shot better groups with the 107 so I used it for all courses of fire. 200-600 yards.
I have found that 2520 is a good powder along with the 107 grains Sierra Match. My 6.5 G has a 24” from Dead Shot barrel out of Oregon. Accurate!
Have almost the exact same groupings on my targets in the basement but from a BA 20" SS fluted barrel. 28.5gr of 8208 XBR over 123gr SMKs and let it fly.
Very very nice !!
I was expecting no more than a 3/4 inch hole from that gorgeous MOAG BEAST.😢 ME WANT TO BUILD Grendel now. Can't wait to see more on this build
I'm glad you finally appreciate that guy, LOL That rifle is something else, I love it!
well for the record, I always did. thanks man !
I'm looking at using H-335 for starters. also looking at the H-322.
Anyone shot the 107 gr sierra's on the grendel?
Some pretty nice groups to me.
some of them anyway ! thanks Don
Looks like you got some workable numbers. 300 norma sounds cool!
the xbr is on the fast side but that really was a great group, no denying that !
Those look like good groups to me, and cool looking range.
thanks man !
Slowly putting together a Grendel myself. From a lot of my research 28.5 of XBR seems to be THE load for the 123gr bullets. This rifle is going to be mine but it will be used by my son to shoot the PBR monthly matches over there at West End once it is together and he gets some trigger time with it. Beautiful rifle and nice shooting.
Good video. Thanks.
thanks for watching !
nice shooting xbr 28.5 all the way!
yea!
Well done brother
keep looking for my headphones.... they gotta be somewhere !!!
You definitely had some nice groups, one thing nice about reloading so many things can be tweaked. Good to see you taking that mother out to the range.
you are right about that, its part of the sport I really like !
Looking good brotherman.
thanks man !
Curious on the load specs. Jump, coal, oal, brass. On my barrel, the longest oal I could do is 2.292" due to mag limitations and this was .05 off the lands. Single shot/manual chambering, I could go out to 2.30 just off the lands. This with the 123gr ELDMs. With the 120gr ELDMs, I can go to 2.290 and just be .014 off the lands. SSTs were close to the ELDMs. Great Video!
You’ll hate to hear this but carbon wrapped barrels are only good until they heat up. The bonding and the carbon start to fluctuate severely. I’ve tested these barrels extensively and they’re not worth the money. My Bartlein 6.5G puts most rounds into .4’s to .7’s. 107gr TMK with 28.5gr 8208 XBR at 2.260” (2650 fps) and 100gr ELDM with 32.5gr CFE223 at 2.245” (2750 fps). Do Satterlee’s 10 shot load development test and you’ll save a ton and really find out what works.
Great response! 👍👍👍👍
Nice work brother. I'd like to have a Grendel
Im loving this little mamma Jamma ! cant wait to take it out to distance now that I have a good starting point for my precision load work up ! im gonna make a 1000 yard scalpel outa this gun !!!
You will get it, keep at it buddy.
um kay...
Did I miss what bullet you used
Hey. I remember that guy. Last seen driving around in the dessert.
I'm taking the H335 out for a walk tomorrow with the hornady 120g eld match. I'm going to shoot 100 reloads at different gr's till I find the best standard deviation and groups. Since you seem to like the xbr, I'll pick some up tomorrow and try it out .
Using the BC 24" fluted heavy barrel on my Colt 6920. Will warm up with 40 rounds of the Hornady black box 123 gr eld match.
just saw the video, XBR is where its at !
How dis the h335 do? Is the xbr the better route to start with?
Any experience with H322?
I have been looking at the 8280 for testing with the 120 gn. vs H335.
Just got my press in today. I'm back and forth on which of these to try first
Any suggestions?
Very nice. I don't reload and have tried 3 types of factory ammo and so far the Federal Fusion shot best. Hornady Black was terrible and Wolf was OK. Weather sucks so I didn't get any shooting in this weekend
yea it was crappy here the night before, but I was kinda happy about it, there was almost no one at the range. hard to find any Grendel here at all !
I like the video but it won't make sense until we have a bullet weight? Thanks
What bullet
I am really interested in the 6.5 grendel,,taking it all in 👍🇺🇸🤓
its addicting !
Hi John. I had to take advantage of being first...now back to the video... when I shot competition matches while in the Army I learned how much of a sciences shooting is. So much of it is balancing skills and managing the available production of powder and related items to make a bullet. In the 80's a competition round was one dollar per round. Now I can bet it would be more unless you load your own. Nice to see you out at the range.
that right for sure... SCIENCE !!! the bullets are what gets ya... these are about 35 cents a piece. prolly about 70 cents to make each one. but now I have a couple winners to choose from. thanks for the comment brother, always good to see ya here.
.300 norma will be fun!
thanks brother man !
What bullet were you shooting and what weight bullet?
CFE223 tends to perform better in my 6.5G when the case is closer to full. I should try magnum primers and see if it helps. I also tried TAC, and it performed well, but I saw slow velocities with the load data ranges i was given. Which range do you go to?
You did have some places to explore a bit more... shame bout the Tac being so slow. H335 has the speed but has too much pressure... can't wait to see how mine does.
yea exactly... I think i can work with the TAC... dont recall if they were compressed or not... im optimistic. Looking forward to your results as well man, your are good at what you do !
123gr ELDM, TAC 27.0gr I got 2011fps with 3.1 SD. my barrel is not as long as yours however. 27.3gr TAC got 2033fps, with 10.4 SD. Temp was 55deg F @ ~1000ft elevation
How short of a barrel are you talking? Seems real slow 9
it's the royal 'we'
I know this is an older video. What COAL are you using? Which primer? What brand of brass? I’m just getting started with 6.5G. Been loading 5.56 for a year and a half now. Thanks for making good content!
You are like a rifle alchemist. Turning lead into gold dots on targets.
or lime green circles that occasionally touch LOL . sorry we missed ya man !
WTF SoCal There will be other trips.
@@tom_olofsson we loved it there, awesome part of town we were in... just not long enough ! wife even got to see it snow for her first time ever !!!!
Nice groups bud. What bullet were you shooting?
Do you guys clean your rifle when switching powders? I shoot rl-15 then switch to BLC2 for the big 85gr bullets in highpower competition. I had a couple people tell me not to switch powders during a match. I've been shooting a long time and never saw a problem.
Was that at West End gun club?
Indeed it was... was pretty cold but empty,... i got there, and I was only one on the line, by the time i left at 1230 there were 3 LOL
Why .3 grn increments sometimes and then .4 with others?
That is some nice shooting sir....What range was that??? Keep up the good journey....Good stuff....
West end Gun Club, thanks !
@@WTFSoCal I thought it looked like it but I was not sure....I like going to the private ranges there but you have to have somebody with full membership....thanks for getting back to me....
@@scottf.3808 That's why I usually end up over at Lytle Creek.
@@JReed305 Right on....
We is, you and your rifle.😂
I hope mine shoots as good as yours when I'm done with it!! What kind of a chrono are you using? Just curious
Lab radar... I hope it does too !!!
Was thinking 300norma was gonna be expensive then you said new barrel and bolt and I was like ok that's not too bad even on an ai
yea should be too insane to convert my AX MC
You said five loads 😂 Looks like you have some winners.
Oh Beavis!
What bad billy said.
yep
I did not catch witch bullet weight you used
123 g eld's
My 6.5 Grendel build, I installed a 24” barrel (M) Deadshot Barrel out of Oregon. I started with powders CFE223 AND 2520. I selected these powders to use in the 223 Remington cartridge. I did find out that starting at 28.5 grains would not operate BCG, so I stepped up things to 30.5 both powders 2520 the better powder but both producing almost the same velocity with the edge going to 2520.
What barrel length and make?
20 in Proof research.
What bullet were you loading?
Hornady 123 grain ELD's... my go to accurate projectile. Love them... sent many of the 147 grain variety out over a mile thru my creedmoor.
cheers.
What bullet did you use in these reloads? What grain weight?
123 eld's
H322 is miracle in a plastic can for Grendel
what load and bullet are you using?
123 ELD Match and 120 Sierra Match King.
I mentioned it to a another guy on RUclips and he hasn't stop praising it ever since he tried it.
RushShooting 67913 check out his Grendel videos before h332 and after.
Maybe I missed it but what bullet were you using?
123 g Hornady ELD's
yes Yes YES!
Could you send me some data just started up loading not had as much luck as you with recipes factory has done better but only as good as your worst group I got a 18" stainless barrel at 200 yards trying to get those groups at 200. Looking to cook up some high fps can be high recoil very flat long range hunting load for white tail Thanks!
👍
that was lot of walking , you got your exercise
?
LOL
California is my birth state; I was raised in the LA/Compton areas; I lived there until I joined the Army in 1968. What is happening in California these days with all that is going on? I built an AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel; it is a shooter, period.
What did you call that rifle? The "Mother of All Grandmas"! What? 😇
Your range looks like it's in the Baja desert....oh....wait...
Glad you had a great time!
might as well be the desert! Im likin this lil gun !
@@WTFSoCal - All I'm saying is that you should take emergency water & rations with you every time you go downrange to change your targets. lmao!!!
BTW, isn't Grendel a children's story character? Hansel & Grendel? ??
Ever heard of a golf cart?
Komifornia and their gun laws. That grip is awful on such a nice rifle
that rifle seems awfully light, you're flinging it around like it is made out of plastic
just around 9 pounds, maybe upwards 0f 10...
