Another exciting lecture. Maharaj had touched upon Ajatavada and the implications are very radical. It is similar to Vivekananda telling his disciple that he never said ,"God is everything, rather he meant God alone is" (often quoted by Maharaj also). So if we consider Ajatavada of Mandukaya Karika which is the final say in Advaita, the implications are much much more radical. The 7th mantra of Mandukya is the most profound. Another very profound mantra is 1.17 which is not part of the upanishad but is Gaudapada’s verse and is translated by Shankara. I first learnt of this verse in Maharaj’s 2 part lecture “Who Am I?” given in IIT Kanpur. It is my favorite and in my view the best lecture given by Maharaj to date. The verse 1.17 gives a glimpse into the radical view of Gaudapada and Shankara. In this verse Shankara uses snake and rope example to explain Ajatavada. There are a few subtle differences with mirage/desert, ornament/gold examples. 1) Snake is seen due to one’s own delusion whereas other examples might not strictly fall under delusion, there is a formation of mirage which everyone sees. 2) After realizing the rope the snake is not seen anymore whereas illusion of mirage and ornament persists even after the truth is known and 3) Snake is really not there even while you are seeing it. It might not be correct to say the rope has become snake, or rope is snake or snake is nothing but the rope. The correct way to say is that there is no snake. There never was, never is and never will be. Rope alone is. We have the Mandukya Karika verse 1.17 to back this up and it gives insight into Gaudapada and Shankara's radical position. From rope perspective what snake? The snake was never there even while I was seeing it. The world and body is not really there, it is just an illusion. The experiencer itself is negated so what to talk about the experience. The world and this body mind complex is not really there even right now. It is just a delusion, Brahman alone is. A question to ask. To whom the world and body mind complex appears? Obviously not to Brahman. Brahman is all there is, ever fulfilled, detached, non doer, non experiencer, action less, aloof and sakshi, it just knows itself by itself. All this appears to the ego, but which is really not there. With ego dismissed the triputi ( knower, instrument of knowledge and the known) is dismissed. They are not really there. Another question to ask? Is it non-dual right now? Shankara says yes. Liberation is here and now otherwise it will be in space and time and can be destroyed. If it is non dual right now, then the only possibility is this all this is false and even right now it is Brahman alone. So is there Brahman and appearance. No that will be duality. There is not two 1) a snake and 2) rope. There is no snake and rope alone. There is Brahman alone Here is the verse 1.17 17. If the perceived manifold were real then certainly it would disappear. This duality ( that is cognized) is mere illusion (Maya). Non-duality is (alone) the Supreme Reality. Sankara’s Commentary.. If the knowledge of non-duality (Turiya) be possible after the disappearance of the perceived manifold, how -could non-duality be said to exist (always) while the perceptual manifold remains? This is explained this: This would have been true if the manifold really existed.* This manifold being only a false imagination, like the snake in the rope, does not really exist. There is no doubt that it would (certainly) disappear if it really existed. The snake imagined in the rope, through false conception, does not really exist and therefore does, not disappear through correct understanding. Nor, similarly, does the illusion of the vision conjured up by the magician exist and then disappear as though a veil thrown over the eyes of the spectators (by the magician) were removed. Similar is this duality of the cognized universe called the Phenomenal or manifold, a mere illusion. Non-duality Turiya like the rope and the magician (in the illustrations) is alone the Supreme Reality. Therefore the fact is that there is no such thing as the manifold about which appearance or disappearance can be predicated.
Where is God? That is also an illusion. It is only isness. If you say father only. There should be a son, too. This word can not be justified with isness

If you say God is the cause of the world then God will also be an effect. This goes in infinite regress. Brahman is causeless, as there is nothing other than Brahman. Brahman alone IS!
Buddha didn't believe in Brahman. But he believed in samadhi and in nirvana which is formless Brahman itself.If Buddha didn't believe in Brahman does that mean he didn't believe in Brahman in form or he didn't believe Brahman without form.Cause achieving samadhi is a formless Brahman.But Buddha thought he gets there as a non self as a consciousness,not as experiencing Brahman.But samadhi is Brahman.If someone goes by non self teachings won't ever accept the Brahman in form idea as if there is non self then there is non god.Basically Buddha believed in the formless everything which is empty cause there are no forms in,so it's nothing.He denied god but didn't denied formless everything which is nothing.He cannot be the manifestation of Vishnu.He is an illusion of a not Vishnu where the nothing is existing in peace.So where is god, in Buddhas life nowhere.But just because he dosen't goes by believing in forms teachings. Some people tell buddhists are atheists but I cannot call anybody atheist who believes in samadhi and nirvana.For real they believe in God but they see it from the other view.

Although Vedanta addresses the commonality in existence, it does not explain uniqueness in all life forms and existence. Saankhya and Vaisheshika seem to address both commonality and uniqueness in creatures of life and existence.

One question…this teachings of Liberation is only possible if we are intelligent..now I am not a devotee, it would be self torture if I controlled myself in the path of Bhakti…I can understand the concept of science well but really can’t understand,remember, established any links in what Swamiji is saying…yet Swamiji looks very intelligent, he is able to finish the lecture on time, quickly absorbs the questions, remembering the speaker name, and answering them as well….how it is even possible to understand all this by a dumb like me…most of the time I am memorising what he is saying 🤣🤣 then it feels pointless because I am not realising any of it, just memorising. 😛😛😛
Spirituality and liberation has nothing to do with intelligence. Just like waking from dream to jagrat has nothing to do with intelligence, waking from jagrat to turiya has also nothing to do with intelligence. First step is realizing the fact that only spirituality can liberate from misery. Materialism can only redistribute misery. It is like realizing my blanket is wet and it has to be dried. Second step is placing the blanket under the sun. Apparently you have done these two. Now you have to wait for the blanket to get dry. It will take time. Liberation is liberation from the concept of time also, meaning you will be liberated with retro effect. What you can do from your part is Abhyasa or regular practices like yoga, meditation, chanting or company of wise people (satsang). Wisdom cannot be grabbed. It has to come to you. I have scientific background and relate the spirtual principles to scientific concepts like polarization, potential energy surface etc. You might know that after delving deeply into quantum mechanics, Erwin Schrödinger ended up as a Vedantin and Atman=Brahman is referred to as the second Schrödinger equation.
If you and me are the same...why does your enlightenment doesn't cause my enlightenment..are there patches of me and continuity is not there in consciousness
there is no container called mind in which the world can be . . world IS the mind , not IN THE MIND . World is the byavaharika (transactional reality ) of the REAL BRAHMAN , which only IS .
No, teaching is not for Brahman. Ask to whom all this appears? Definitely not Brahman. Brahman is unattached, unrelated, action less, non doer, non experiencer etc.. Nothing touches Brahman. Brahman knows only itself by itself. All this appears to the Ego. Teaching is for the ego. But the ego is not really there. This is what the ego has to learn that it is not really there.

Ego is like a phantom, not really there. If you take the snake rope example. Snake is not rope. Rope alone is. In fact there is no snake. Please refer to Mandukya Karika 1.17 and 1.18 and it will be clear. So illusion (maya) consists of vidya maya and avidya maya. Teachers, taught, scriptures and advaita are all vidya maya. Taking you towards the truth. So this same illusion will help you overcome illusion if you are a sincere seeker. Shankara says you are ever free (nitya mukta) right now. Liberation is not something you will get later on after lot of practice. If that were so it will be in time and space and can be destroyed. Advaita is just to show you that you are already free, remove that illusion that you are bound

No, teaching is not for Brahman. Ask to whom all this appears? Definitely not Brahman. Brahman is unattached, unrelated, action less, non doer, non experiencer etc.. Nothing touches Brahman. Brahman knows only itself by itself. All this appears to the Ego. Teaching is for the ego. But the ego is not really there. This is what the ego has to learn that it is not really there.

waves are water, foams are water, water droplets are also water. In essence everything is water and water only.
Here Oceans, waves, foams and droplets are illusive ego of what? By whose act this Illusive ego was the result? Don't say Avidya, that is the question. Please don't repeat the question itself as its answer.
This entire teaching of removing of ego also does not exist in reality. But lecture is given to so realistically to remove ego that does not exist in reality.

@@regardsk3815 if you take the water bucket and reflection of sun example. The reflection of sun in the water is like ego. It is not the Sun. Ego is not Brahman. That is the problem with statement "All is Brahman". It can mislead. One should say Brahman alone is. There is a difference. You are not the ego. That which illumines the ego is You. Ego is like a phantom, not really there. If you take the snake rope example. Snake is not rope. Rope alone is. In fact there is no snake.
Please refer to Mandukya Karika 1.17 and 1.18 and it will be clear. So illusion (maya) consists of vidya maya and avidya maya. Teachers, taught, scriptures and advaita are all vidya maya. Taking you towards the truth. So this same illusion will help you overcome illusion if you are a sincere seeker.

Yes it is a paradox. You are walking down the road in the late evening and see a snake and are afraid. You put the flashlight on and go close to see it is a rope. Advaita is like that flashlight. There never was a snake. There never was an ego. This is the hallmark of avidya. It creates something which is not there. Another meaning of maya is "that which is not". Shankara says you are ever free (nitya mukta) right now. Liberation is not something you will get later on after lot of practice. If that were so it will be in time and space and can be destroyed. Advaita is just to show you that you are already free, remove that illusion that you are bound
