4:36 for all technicians in training in the room he is using a large C-clamp and not a vise. Also the part he is pushing into the caliper housing is called a caliper piston.
Thanks for taking the time to put this video up as I have a RAV 4 2011 and was able to put in my front brake pads without any problems 😊 I had never done it before but your video was very clear and a friend had all the tools needed. 👍
I, unfortunately, needed to remove both bolts of the brake caliper in order to expose the break pads. The break line had too much tension when I tried your method. (2007 Rav4, v6 sport 4wd) The c-clamp trick while using the old pad to compress the caliper is a great tip. This video helped my process a lot, along with the forum comments. Thank you.
I loosened the top and it slid gently up and when it was up I tightened it a hair to keep in safe position (not hurting the brake line your mentioning) I ran into same issue and that worked instantly!! It's scary at first!
Thank you my friend for making this video. It will certainly make replacing my front brakes , a lot easier. I've seen a few videos on this subject, but I found yours very helpul because you filmed it clearly, with just the necessary information , wich makes it easy to understand. Thank you. Your friend from P. RICO, Edwin Oliveras
for the best practice, clean the brake caliper and rotor with brake cleaner. TQ for your video..u give alot of info and save money.. next month i'll change my RAV4 brake pads
That is called a C clamp, just in case somebody goes to buy one you wouldn’t want to ask for a vice! Good video! Lot easier than some I have changed, didn’t have any weird headed bolts or anything like that! Really simple!😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🏴☠️🏴☠️
I want to thank you for posting this video. It's been a few years since I did the pads on a car (about 26 to be honest). I've done plenty of motorcycles so no worries about being able. Your video explained everything that I needed to know and I was able to do the job nice and easy.
Hi Galaxy Views, you should have sprayed down the brake area and hardware with brake cleaner as it would remove all loose brake dust and road grime, remove the caliper slide pins, clean them and re-lube them with Sil-Glyde Silicone Brake Lubricant or any rubber-safe lubricant and lube the brake pad ears and back of the brake pads before re-installing. I also add lube to the brake caliper piston rubber boot. Good video, nonetheless.
Yes, you will see under the car behind the front wheels on the frame rail the indentation where to put the jack stands. Spray down the brake area with brake cleaner and use lube... on the brake hardware, brake caliper slide pins and back of the brake pads.
@@galaxyviews7483 ahh. it seems like everytime you take your car to the shop to change breaks, they always want to replace the rotors and pads. $400 job. sigh. long story short, I changed it myself. thanks for the video budd. I will pay only change rotors if it only needs it next time.
Measure the thickness of the rotor with a micrometer, there is a minimal measurement you should not go below for safety reasons. The measurement for this model u would have to look up(toyota dealership)
Most likely ceramic brake pads are the oem type for this vehicle. Check online, you can find that info easily! Duralast Gold from Autozone are decent pads.
The vibration when braking is usually do to the rotor is what i call warped, usually wore down more in one place than another, definitely change, otherwise measure thickness of rotor, there is a minimum thickness they can be for safety reasons

For those telling technicians it's a C clamp, it's not !!!, it's called a G clamp 😉👍
Excellent~ I've been doing brakes for decades and it never occurred to me to just pivot the sucka up! Thanks!
Thank God Toyota has great engineers working in their plants. This is so easy.
I would like to thank you as well. Thank you for taking the time out and showing us how to change our brakes on the RAV4
You forgot to pump the brake pedal slowly at the end. This ensures you have proper brake pedal pressure. Just don't pump too hard.
why not pump too hard

Same here;!!! Well said

My 2012 4cyl AWD is the same

Great video man! Thank you for the clear camera angles and instruction. Cheers!
Hey thanks man ill be doing this job next week just ordered pads. Great instruction.
for the best practice, clean the brake caliper and rotor with brake cleaner.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was just what I needed to know.
Saved $150 bucks in labor thank you

Simple, straight forward, thank you!
Amazing Instructions. Start to finish.ThankYou so much
it looks like to be a very easy process ! thank you so much.

Thank you. Worked perfectly
thank you sir just needed a reminder
great video - you can put anti squeak on the back plates of the pads and where the pads sit on the bracket. also loctite the bolt

Toyota recommended procedure is not to lube. I'm confused as to why not.
@@jbean530 Actually it depends on the rotor size. The small one gets lube the big (11.7) inch one does not.
Thanks, great video!
Very helpful thank you!
I'm going tackle 2010 rav4 same way thank you 4 showing
Good job!
Grease slider pins with synthetic brake grease to prevent binding. Spray down all areas with cleaner when done.
2:19 I thought I heard a Korean voice, and I was right. BTW great video.
Thank you
Thanks Sir
Hey man thanks. Can you show the brake fludi flush?
Do RAV4 2006 to 2012 use the same brake pads? Mine is 2011. I’m considering buy one pair of front brake pads and replace the worn out old pair.
The vehicle in the the video is a 2013-2015 Rav4 - is the the procedure and tools require the same for 2006-2012 models?
Yes it is
Great Vid. Where did you place the jack stands. on the scissor jack location?
Yes, you will see under the car behind the front wheels on the frame rail the indentation where to put the jack stands.
Spray down the brake area with brake cleaner and use lube... on the brake hardware, brake caliper slide pins and back of the brake pads.
Is the front the same as the rear
great video budd, but is it bad not to change the rotors at the same time when replacing the break pads? can you re-use the old rotors???
You don't need to replace rotors as frequently as the pads.
@@galaxyviews7483 ahh. it seems like everytime you take your car to the shop to change breaks, they always want to replace the rotors and pads. $400 job. sigh. long story short, I changed it myself. thanks for the video budd. I will pay only change rotors if it only needs it next time.

So pads have A and B on them is there a difference where do they go?
as you take off the brake pads just match them up, its not difficult to figure out which pad goes on the inside and outside.
Very informative, C-Clamp, not vice
How about the squeal indicator wear clips?
You don't need them if you can see through the wheels how much brakes you have. But most people need them because they don't know.
Every where I go they give me the wrong pads u have the flat ones correct
Torque specs?
What type of brake pads?
Most likely ceramic brake pads are the oem type for this vehicle. Check online, you can find that info easily!
Duralast Gold from Autozone are decent pads.
At 2:19 did anybody else's Google pop up?
How do you know when to replace the rotors
When you get a vibration feeling when breaking, it’s time. Going through this now !
The vibration when braking is usually do to the rotor is what i call warped, usually wore down more in one place than another, definitely change, otherwise measure thickness of rotor, there is a minimum thickness they can be for safety reasons
Use a micrometer
Hi
Lube?
exactly my same thought! Use Sil-glyde or any rubber safe lube.
those autozone brakes just don't last. I have tried several times and it is just not worth it.
they have waranty on them just bring them back to the storewhen they wear down.
No sound??
Thank you
