    The Best part about your lessons for someone like me, who has deen playing over 50yrs, is that you find the small tricks that have been driving me, and guys like me, Crazy for decades! You know, alternate tunings, capos, etc. We all know the Greatest guitar parts are Also the simplest, and most common sense! That's why you are my go to guy to play it Right!...Just wsh you were my teacher back in '65....

    In the late ‘60s a popular Cincinnati rock station announced for a couple of weeks that it was switching to an all-country format on a particular day and time. I was listening in my car when the first song of the new playlist began. After about 45 seconds, people in the background were screaming “No, No…”. Then “Born to Be Wild” was cued up, drowning out the country tune and exposing the hoax. Cannot hear this song now without a smile thinking of that moment. Great band with a signature sound. Thanks for the lesson.

    I like this approach. As a guitar player, "songs you should know" series. Great idea!

      @ S T Yes, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of them by this time, for us folks who have been at it for the past 50+ years. Luckily for us who started playing back then, we just need to "brush up" on tunes that we don't frequently play. But, at least we have a working knowledge of them, versus a relative newcomer into classic rock, which would be quite overwhelming to learn all of the tunes we learned back then, year-by-year as they came out.

    That boogie woogie thing just kills my hand after 5-6 mins, even after many years of goofin around on guitar. But it’s in sooo many tunes.

    • @frommetoyou4401
      @frommetoyou4401 3 года назад +1

      @Mookytc Definitely is extremely important to the the feel and proper "groove" in the strumming, to make the song "swing", and have an authentic sound.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 3 года назад

      This lesson helped a lot, the strumming pattern gets the vibe of the recording by Stepenwolf. Some lessons fail to show the strumming hand; which is often essential to the feel of a song. Also like the riffs that James includes.

    This brings back memories of my teen years. It's an example of one of those songs that I'll bet is fun to play. Can't wait to try it tonight - thank you. On the lighter side, I was humming it on the way to work after seeing your video and something didn't quite fit. I couldn't figure it out until I realized I was humming China Grove by mistake!

    James, your videos are awesome as far as the physical aspects are concerned. Strumming, fingering and such. Could you explain (or at least mention) a little more about the electronics. For example, you play a telecaster style guitar in this video which has single coil pickups. Knowing that is extremely important when when trying to duplicate a particular sound. As are what pedals and amps are being used.

    edit 1/17/2021 @James James There is an cool exit chord with riff included in it, on each of the verse chords which "closes" each verse just before going into the G-->A-->E chorus chords.
    It is the chord you are showing for the verses. However, the difference is that it has that closing riff added. I didn't hear it in the lesson.
    Also, I did watch four actual Steppenwolf videos, thinking that the chord riff for the verse was done in 1st position. But no, not the case. That said, with 2 guitarists, would it not be appropriate for one of the two to play it in 1st position? In the videos, I did see the Steppenwolf guitarist using 1st position chords in the G-->A-->E chorus chords.
