This video supports the thesis that 20% of fishermen catch 80% of the fish. You methodically went through lure choices until you found the one that worked. Most would have moved on and plodded along casting the same lure the locals claimed worked. Great video on making the day productive via persistence and experimentation.

That second catfish was gorgeous.
Great video. I am very familiar with the spot you were in. Years ago that creek was amazing, always produced a lot a Bass. However the creek suffered two really bad blow tides and the fishing has yet to be the same. I usually go down stream from that location. I pretty much only target Snakehead these days. PB is at 18.6 and was delicious.

You were close! Cool. I have been fishing the Potomac off Fort Belvoir last couple weekends using various lures. No luck so far. When you drove north on 95 my condo is about a third of a mile away, where 95 intersects with 495. Good luck in NJ.

Quick question for you, How long of a leader line do you typically use and do you keep the knot out of eyes and reel?
I love all your content! I've been trying to emulate all your videos here in south florida. Same bait, same docks..... no luck hahaha I need to learn the flick of your wrist. Maybe you could show a tutorial on how you retrieve your different baits. That would be amazing! Shad, xrap, shrimp... Being a beginner is proving to be difficult!

Thanks man! And sorry to hear. For some of those baits on any given day the fish might want the retrieval different. Alternating the retrieve regularly until you get a bite is the best advice I can give probably. Reel faster, reel slower, try two little jigs then a pause, try one jig etc... the fish will let your know. Never get fixated on one retrieval and you’ll be on the right path. Tight Lines 🤙🏻

I've caught catfish off top water jerk baits, plastic jigs, lots of live minnows, and had over 20in catfish take large shiners and suckers trolling with planer boards.

Nice catfish catch. But hey, I've been meaning to tell you your reel has its retrieve hand on the wrong side! Lol. Thanks for entertaining those of us who aren't able to fish due to stay at home orders. The sheriff deputies are patrolling the river where I fish and road blocking all the regular fishing spots.😥. This Covid 19 is killing my outdoor activities in central California! I need to get out of this state soon!
That Catfish you caught in the Potomac with the huge head looked like a Gulper Catfish which I have seen in aquariums.
you can always get on a winter flounder bite in the new jersey rivers especially shark river. gulp has been killing in with small hooks
Haven’t heard of too much action here in jersey. Couple smaller bass and bluefish off the surf but nothing giant. Excited to see how you break it down and hopefully learn more !!

Your first and last catfish where "White Catfish" or, according to us locals, White Bullheads. You should have kept them. They're plentiful and probably the best breakfast food you'll ever eat! Fry the fillets in butter, cover with grits, an egg, butter and honey (and a biscuit to clean your plate). Man... that's live'n!

@@FishAholicTV were you actually fishing the Potomac or aquia creek? Trust me you dont want to eat any fish that comes out of that water.
1st and 4th cat were white cats - huge head to body ratio and not as deep forked dorsal fin. 2nd and 3rd were blues - straight anal fin with deep forked dorsal. Nice vid bro!
I always mix up whites/blues
I fish the Potomac a couple times a week and the blue cats are gonna give you the best fight. They're also in bulk. Fishing near quantico is your best bet for snakehead.

Thanks for the video! The first and fourth catfish were a white catfish(with the fat heads). Second and third was a blue catfish. Someone might have already said but it sounds like you need some marine grade grease on the roller bearings of the lower unit of that 180 drive. I had the same thing so I followed a video and greased it up and it ran smooth and quiet afterward👍🏻👍🏻

I live in san diego. I get to VA a few times a year where my parents live. Pops and I kill the trout every time we cast! Visiting Culpeper in 2 weeks. Got a snake head in a private pond at my pops golf course. Trophy fish for me! Another species checked off of my list.

The first caught catfish is called a white catfish and the blue coloration is from the cooler weather...the rest are blue chanel cats if they had black spots then just channel cats
the Potomac is full of blue cats. I get about 5 a day down there.

Those were probably white catfish. They grow to less than half the size of even channel catfish. Kind of a weird species that ranges along the east coast in brackish to fresh water, more so in fresh. The one with the smaller heads were blue cats.

I’m a Virginia native, every catfish I’ve seen in the Potomac has that mutant looking head since DC is such a nasty place with the pollution. Extremely sad.
Stunk like a toilet when I was kid back in the 1950's and 60's. Better now thank God.

I just put them in my Berkley gulp packages but also the berkley Gulp spray could work to.
Still, to catch catfish like that seems unusual but fun. Interesting how they are different species. Plus they pulled decent. The important thing is your skill at finding something on your meter. Lesson for the day. Good stuff dude. SoSoCal
