  • From The Film Australia Collection. Made by the National Film Board 1948. Directed by Geoffrey Collings. This film treats the subject of vandalism. It is intended to show children that by wantonly damaging public property they cause mischief not only to themselves but to the community at large. The film shows that public utilities like the Post Office perform very important National tasks. Anything which prevents them from working efficiently can cause damage or even loss of life.

Most young people probably couldn't send a letter by post. It's unfortunately a diminishing form of communication of yesteryear.

These days we call them scumbags. Scumbags have existed for millennia and will continue to exist, much to the chagrin of everyone else in society.

Australia used to have its own culture- but stupid vandals brought in a whole lot of foreign garbage and destroyed it.

Goes on here in England too, yobs wrecking anything and everything. I was a motorman on the Southern Region of the railways here, the little bastards used to kick the sliding doors in the old side-corridor trains off their lower runners. That and smash the wall lights, mirrors, block the lavvies with cans or paper towels, when not smashing the pans or sinks, and let's not forget pulling blinds or curtains down. The replacing trains as a result were built VERY spartan. You can see why, but it didn't help the many honest passengers. Now everything lineside's covered in all this ghetto - trash graffiti scrawl. Glad I'm retired.

Vandalism can be a worry in every country, Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada. Wherever there's children and even teenagers who cause property damage, vandalism.

Cheap thrills, displaying discontent with their life/society, trying to look or the leader.
People lacking excitement in their life so create some misguided drama.
