actually 17.185 KM
Vasco da Gama Bridge, cable-stayed bridge with approach viaducts that crosses over the Tagus River estuary in Lisbon, Portugal. Spanning 17.2 km (10.7 miles), the structure was the longest bridge in Europe at the time of its inauguration.
The bridge referred to as Lisbon Bridge is 2.5 kilometers long, also known as Bridge April 25th (when Salazar was removed by coup), inaugurated 1966.
@@jan9562 Its actually referred to a Ponte 25 De Abril and the bridge Ken was referring to and asking on was the Ponte Vasco Da Gama
Well I thoroughly enjoyed that Ken, Your Stepdad sounds like he enjoyed himself so much he may soon be moving to join you in Portugal ... that will be good for you both😊 The meteorite was impressive, thankfully it missed the farm LOL.
However as a Welshman who comes from a Rygbi playing sheep rearing country, it was the sheep shearing part that I enjoyed the most, the camaraderie of all the Farmers doing the shearing together and the apres-shear meal and drinks at the local was a joy to watch, it reminded me of my childhood in the 50's here in Wales.
One does not realise how time flies when your having fun and that you have already been five years in Portugal, but all the same may I say how impressed I am with your command of Portuguese👍
After watching this video I am now looking forward to making the move to Central Portugal even more 😁
Thank you. Time has flown for sure and I am so blessed to have ended up where I am! surrounded by good people in a beautiful place!
Good luck for your upcoming move 😊
A very beautiful and eventful video. It was definitely an uplifting feeling to end the day together with all the locals. Somehow you recognize home in it. I really enjoyed the video. Many greetings from Germany
Glad you enjoyed it!
Drinking with the locals........you have arrived! Good neighbors.
The best!
Love the sheep in their summer bodies.
Your stepdad seems like the most amazing man.
Thank you, he sure is... Jeremy is our family "Jem" :)
Vasco da gama bridge in Lisbon is 17.2km long. Great show..
Thanks Luis!
That are the days you will allways remember ! Greetings from Hamburg
100% 😁👍
Anither great video guys . The place where you ride the cable car is called Parque das Nações , it was refurbished from old docks , to accommodate the Expo98 world exposition . It's called Oceanario , it aquarium, because exists the aquarium Vasco da Game wich is in another part of Lisbon . The big building close buy in a shape of a UFO, is the Pavilhão Atlântico, cused for oncerts and indoor sports ( changed isname since) . The bridge is around 17Km officially , and you can see loads of Flamingos on the other side .
Thanks for the interesting info Victor. Next time I need to cross the bridge to see the other side! :)
When Joaquim cheered he said : so that our wifes never become widows. 😅😅😅😅
Aah ok, I diddnt quite get that part :D
I watch this show because it is with, and ahead, of its' time. Helping people in this clown world. 👍😎
Hey thanks for watching :)
A fun packed video with lots of stuff going on. Jeremy and Joaquim, are rockstars. From Farm to City. You got it covered . Nice Video👍👍👍 Jim and Harriet
Thanks! They sure are 😁👍
Wish I could have been there. If I ever visit, I'll bring my classical guitar.
It was such an amazing experience :)
The Vasco da Gama bridge is roughly 17km long. 12km over the river and 5km over land. The 5 over land are kind of a viaduct, since it is over land, but still connected to the part over the river, so... technically still a bridge? lol
It is loooong! And some "racers" like to speed over it at night... Every now and then some group of people are caught over the bridge at 200+ km/h.
As South Africans we integrate with other cultures so easily. Great neighbors Ken. Can see you are very at home in Portugal. Wishing you always the very best!
Thank you, all the best to you too! :)
What a wonderful sense of community you have been involved with. It’s quite a tribute to their welcoming sense of friendship, and your sense of adventure & reaching out!
The Portuguese have been really kind, generous and understanding towards us as we learned how to integrate ourselves into our new lives here. Still work in progress but we are feeling blessed :)
Thats total integration with Portuguese society your Step Dad sure had a blast loved the Family video Thank you for sharing loved it.
Thanks David 😊
Good friends, good food, and great spirits. Fantastic day, thank you. Great video.
Ponte Vasco da Gama ,Com os seus 17, 185 km de comprimento (que se dividem em 12, 345 sobre as águas do Rio Tejo e 4, 840 sobre terra) é a mais longa ponte da União Europeia, a ...
Love those neighbours!
I always watch but never comment. THIS was a very enjoyable video thanks.
Hey thanks! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
OMG he went with TAAG? Geez... Go bless him. He suffered for sure.
Haha, the flight back to Cape town wasn't too bad apparently... but flying to Portugal was a nightmare. 7 hours delay, missed connecting flight, had to hand over his passport to officials and got stuck in some crappy hotel in Angola. Flight the next day was delayed again. Oh well, at least he had 2 weeks to recover on holiday ;)
Great blog thanks for sharing obrigado
Awesome thanks 😁👍
Nice you and your steph-date had such a quality time, Ken! Nice vid, again, hnx. Edit... Did he just have one small rucksack???
No he had a big suitcase as well. He brought a lot of gifts for Gina and I, and we gave him some olive oil to take home to Cape Town 😊
The fado club music part sounded like Cabo Verde music style "morna".
The "dome" is nowadays called "MEO Arena", used to be Pavilhão Atlântico (Atlantic Pavillion) built for the Expo98. Along with the cable car, the tower and many of the structures there, including the bridge, train station, metro station, etc. That whole area used to be an abandoned industrial zone from the 1800/early 1900, all rebuilt for the Expo.
They've done a great job with it, its a really nice modern part of Lisbon! :)
good old portuguese hospitality its lovely to see my folks
I love it :)
Great episode!! Interesting to hear the quote about a leap year..well done Ken! Best regards to Gina.
Thanks Edwina 😊
This video was EPIC thanks so much for sharing 🤗👍💯 ken.
Thanks Celia... I really enjoyed making it. Was such an awesome week :)
Vasco de gama bridge is 12k long. At its construction, it was the longest bridge in europe.
I knew my viewers would be able to fact check this for me 😁👍 thanks
@@OKportugal driven over it several times. Can be very windy
Sorry but you are wrong, the Vasco da Gama bridge is 17.185 Km long. pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponte_Vasco_da_Gama
In the near future it will be constructed a new bridge near that one with about 15Km. It will have two levels, one with four railways and another for cars. Two railways will be for the TGV train.

Such an enjoyable episode, Ken. How Lisbon has changed since the 80's - so many high-rise buildings! Is the bridge a road and rail bridge?
Wonderful sheep-shearing, film, with cat and kitten bonus. And the meal with the men, such a joy, loved the newspapers on the table. When I lived in Madrid, our cleaning lady asked me to a Chistmas meal with her and other 'asistentas' from the area. It was a riot, and I learned some great new vocabulary!
Thanks Noelle. I haven't been on the bridge yet so I'm not sure. Next time I visit the city 😁👍
Look forward to it! Até a próxima.
OMG! Our farm also capture it on camera!
Oh cool, I saw that video clip from Twitch on a few sites now! :)
@@OKportugal Yeah! We went viral! We are currently banned on Twitch tho... Streaming on RUclips right now instead.
Great video.
Thanks Virginia, I had a blast making it! :)
You were getting wasted! 🤣
Haha 😁👍🍺 time getting wasted is not wasted time
Great video!
Thanks Elsa :)
You had to have meant 7.5 euros right? For the telecabin ride? This was a great video,Ken. I liked the idea of staying on a sailboat! Sheep shearing brings back childhood memories. Thank you for sharing. Nice your Jem came to visit.
Thank you, yes it was 7.50 euros :)
Hi sri your video very nice
Wonderful full video! So much love and comraderie❤
Great video. Lovely insight in to Portuguese farming life showing how friendly your neighbours are. And you had a great night in Lisbon with your stepfather which you both really enjoyed. He will sleep well when he gets home 😊Thank you for sharing ❤️
Hes back safe and sound now. Poor guy diddnt sleep for around 48 hours! He had a great trip though. One for the memory banks! :)
He did well to do a full session God bless him 😊🙏
That bridge is the Ponte Vasco da Gama and it's just over 17km long. It's the second longest bridge in Europe after the Crimean Bridge, and the longest one in the European Union,
Thank you! Thats incredible!
Loved your video and loved the people. I also got to go to Portugal for a new life and am staying in Castelo Branco in a room of a very nice lady who knows maybe one of these days ill come and visit.
Hi Paulo, I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed our video 😊 if you see us out in public, please come and say hi. But please also respect our privacy and don't just come to our farm uninvited.
" tooirr wives, and to the they never become widows"😂😂😂😂😂😂
❤❤❤❤
I think I'm going to really enjoy this channel. Lots of fun and interesting stuff you get upto.
Did your Step-dad fly to Angola to fly to Portugal? 7 hour lay over is crazy. Is that the route from Cape Town?
Sheep 🐑 are such cool little beings, they've got amazing personalities and make very loyal pets.
Yes he flew with TAAG (Air Angola)... flights from Cape town to Angola to Lisbon. There are no direct flights unfortunately but there are other airlines that fly the route stopping at different airports.
@@OKportugal oh right. I thought we'd fly Cape Town-Jhb-Lisbon.
I love your farm and your so professionally made videos. I love the area your farm is. Do you know any land selling in your area?
Olá Ken a Ponte Vasco da Gama têm realmente 22km
Uau, isso é incrível!
Ponte Vasco da Gama is 17 or 18 kms long...
That's still pretty damn long. When I used to run 5 or 10kms it was a good run 😅👍

Don’t ever travel on Angola air if you value your life.
