Please check out: "Top 50 Songs Written by Swedish Songwriters & Producers! (so far)" I think you'll be surprised that a lot of familiar hits that you think are 100 % American, are actually written by Swedes. The video is from 2016, so it's quite old, but it's still worth watching. I hope someone will make an update soon.
Björn Skifs is probably most known for "Hooked on a Feeling" with the group Blue Swede Also, he has been in Melodifestivalen 4 times, 2 of them got sent to eurovision: 1972 Andra kan väl ockå se 1975 Michelangelo 1978 Det blir alltid värre framåt natten 1981 Fångad i en dröm He is also the singing voice in the Swedish dubbed version of Disneys Brother Bear. a favorite of mine. Songs from Swedish dubbed animated movies are amazing, ecpecially those from the 90's and early 2000's (Though I probably am a bit biased as I grew up watching them) And he is in a couple of Swedish movies; "Strul" (1988) and "Drömkåken" (1993). If you ever get the cahnce to watch them, I recommend them. They're fun. If a bit older.
Yes, OH my God, Michelangelo ! The best song that did'nt make it to the ESC. Back then the songs were chosen by juries from all parts of Sweden, not by popular vote. There is a conspirasy theory that says that because Sweden won the year before (ABBA, 1974) the television company SVT (public service) arranging the competition was afraid that Sweden would win again and they desperately fought against it, therefore they made it certain that they would'nt by instructing the juries to vote for "Jenny, Jenny" with Lasse Berghagen, a fairly good tune but no winner. This was because of the huge cost of the arrangement. all laid upon a company financed by taxes alone.
Sweden holds a "mini" (I say mini but it's really not) song congtest called Melodifestivalen, were we get to vote for who we want to send to Eurovision that year. Now a days it's split into like 8-10 parts and in each part 2 entries gets to go to the final, and 2 gets a "second chance". Then at the end it's a big Final, were the winner goes to Eurovision. Its a whole thing, I love it.
@18:12 The Backstreet Boys were influenced by Sweden because Swedish people wrote & produced their biggest hits. The Cheiron Studios in Sweden (especially Max Martin) also wrote some of the biggest hits for Britney Spears, N'Sync and many others. 1993 and Arvingarna is dansband. We go out dance to that music and do a swedish version of foxtrott and a dance called bugg. Also Lorrens floating roof was alot smaller in the big competion due to how heavy it was from the swedish competion. They scaled it down.
Alice Babs, the first to sing in this video, was Duke Ellington's favorite singer! They did several LPs together. She was an incredible human as well as singer!
15:07 This song is now cult in Sweden. Played as the last song at almost every party and everyone screaming it. Started with university students doing it, but now I think everyone is. Here's a version when it was played live in the city if Linköping during "Musikhjälpen" (not by Tommy Körberg though): Linköping - Stad i Ljus @ MUSIKHJÄLPEN 2015 23:57 I totally agree. Have always wondered how this could win the Swedish qualifier.
The Lena Philipsson song works much better in Swedish ("Det Gör Ont" if anyone wants to look it up). That's the version that competed in Melodifestivalen (the contest where the song is selected). It's still not my cup of tea, but it's nowhere near as bad as the English version.
17:28 Christer björkman has been working as one of the most prominent producers for SVT (the Swedish TV channel that shows ESC in Sweden) when it comes to Eurovision and Melodifestivalen (Swedens yearly national competition where the Swedish artists for Eurovision are chosen) for the past like 20 years or something
The Loreen video (i think) is from the Swedish final, the staging was way better than in Liverpool. The viewers missed out so much that happened with that screen
I enjoyed this so much, thank you guys. Sidenote I do agree with most of your reactions, 😅but Måns Zelmerlöv!!! Please do a review,...I'm kidding. Big hugs from Sweden, I appreciate you guys.
30:21 Frans sung a song about a Zlatan (the Swedish football player) when he was only about 10 years old (or younger). He sung it in Swedish, but there is a English version as well if you would decide to listen to it, English with some added German parts as well
Fun fact, Christer Björkman that sang 1992 actually started the American song contest in hopes of making something similar to the Eurovision song contest that would bring the americans together. And he has also had a big impact on the eurovision song contest :)
Loreen, when she won with the song "tattoo" she became the 2nd artist ever to win a Eurovision song constest twice (after Johnny Logan) and the first woman ever to do so.
Loreen is a 'force of nature' - she's epic, and a total one-off. She's not just a great singer, but a performance artist aswell. She never disappoints, when singing live. Each year at Eurovision, the winner from the previous year is invited to perform their song again (right at the end, after the new winners had been presented with the trophy). But rather than just sing 'Tattoo' again, Loreen chose to merge it into another of her songs - 'Forever'. The result being 'Forever/Tattoo'. Check out her live performance of this 'Forever/Tattoo', at this year's Eurovision. It's pretty special. She sure knows how to put on a show. Goosebumps.

Backstreet boys is HEAVILY influenced by Sweden. When they got their star on Hollywoods walk of fame they brought Max Martin and called him jokingly their 6th Backstreet boy. He is a big part of a lot of their biggest songs. He even used one of the boys farts in one song, but which one and how you will have to find out by yourself. ;) /Huge Backstreet boys fan from Sweden
It was the same Carola who competed as at 17, won the competition a few years later with and then many years later decided to give Eurovision another try.
Benjamin Ingrosso is the son of Pernilla Wahlgren, who is very famous in Sweden within movies, theatre and music. In recent years she have had a very successful reality-tv show where you can see Bianca, Benjamin and their brother Oliver a lot. @@MarleanSweden what are you babble about. I know that. Im from sweden. Maybe learn to read. And yes ofc she won sweden. She can't come crap there and enter eurovision. That even a carrot get. But she sucked
It is originally a song contest, the artists were chosen later to represent the song. Sweden didn’t win until language rule was removed and ABBA won with waterloo in English. That was also the start of commercial music in Sweden where earning money was considered bad before. ABBA’s money created both the Polar price and the Swedish music wonder. But without communal free music school none of ABBA probably would have seen the light of day. Music school in Sweden is still affordable and public.
Fun story about Björn Skifs in the 1978, told by himself is that the first sentence he missed the lyrics and he has told in tv once why, the story is that there was an elevator from the room they were in to the stage where all the artists, band members and so on was going up to the stage with before the performance and he had been joking with one of the producers about forgetting the lyrics and how to sing to make it sound Swedish if it happened. And in the elevator the producer sings the first sentence like that just to be funny and when Björn is sitting down by the piano, start playing the song he has no idea of the lyrics and he has to sing the "fake Swedish" just because his producer did that. The sentence he forgot is "Dagarna och kvällarna" (Day and Nights) but the only countries who could here it wasn't Swedish words he sang in the start was Denmark and Norway who understand Swedish, no one else was aware of the mistake.
18:21 Funny you'd say that. Backstreet Boys debut songs were produced in Sweden. Very relevant documentary regarding Swedish music export: ruclips.net/video/mVEH19-ts_c/видео.htmlsi=3mKoOfcPPByRo1Fx
As far as I know the concept has always to be live and always in front of an audience. Since the stage always has to be better compared to the year before and in general the event has become quite expensive to arrange. Sweden has won the Eurovision 7 times, together with Ireland it's the record, though Sweden has 3 wins since last time Ireland won.Abba were the first winners in 1974, the last winner is Loreen 2023.She also won 2012. If you did not notice Sweden won, 1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023. About Beatles, you reacted on it. Beatles is the song, the groups name was Forbes. And you are right about Carola. She is the Swedish artist who has won the Melodifestivalen (the competiton that lead you to Eurovision) most times. She was 1983 Främling. She won the Eurovision 1991 Fångad Av En Stormvind and she did the 2006 performance Invincible. Some years Sweden had big problems in the Eurovision Song Contest like 2008 we sent Perelli with Hero and it was a year for ballads and opera for most countries, so that was what people wanted, so 2009 we sent opera, and then the other countries sent disco, and pop music, so we were a bit slow for some years. You said 2019 surprised you as it did not feel Sweden. I think that is one of best songs has ever won the Eurovision. But the girls singing behind him is the girls who won 2020. Look at it again :)
"This is my life" faled to qualify ue to a problem with the technical was not woking in the Norwegian system as the number was offline more or less all voting period. That was announced some days after the result already was done.... So Anna was out due to technical issues in the first stage of the European selection... But it according to all estimates afterwords she has easily pased that stage and arrived to the final.... a lots of sad people that wanted her in the final...
Back then EVERYTHING was live in front of a live audience. Unlike today when all the background music is prerecorded (and most of the singing SHOULD be prerecorded since they are so poor live singers).
There is only one place in Sweden that roll their Rs and that is Gothenburg and the towns surrounding it. What the others do are just meek in comparison

We had some embarrassing years in early 2000 but I think we've made up for them 😁
I feel like all of those songs were much better in Swedish.
The 2009 song is Greta Thunbergs mother, in case 3 people didnt say it already.
Sweden good song at the Eurovision song contest
It's all live
Malena Ernman in 2009 is the mother of Greta Thunberg.
When Loreen won with Euforia, Italy was the only country who gave her 0 points
Sweden rules and you don´t
Back then EVERYTHING was live in front of a live audience. Unlike today when all the background music is prerecorded (and most of the singing SHOULD be prerecorded since they are so poor live singers).
Sweden always bring good vocals, except for a couple of times. But usually they are a powerhouse .
Im swedish
2009, Malena Ernman, is now being a bit overshadowed by her daughter Greta Thunberg...
There is only one place in Sweden that roll their Rs and that is Gothenburg and the towns surrounding it. What the others do are just meek in comparison
