I just pulled the inside of the egg shell out right after I used them. Used a bit of warm water to rinse first. No need to soak. Love your tutorials!!!!
I noticed she hasn't been answering, maybe super busy............. I love her ideas! It gave me many things to think about. ......The main questions: Yes, you can thin some acrylic paint and use it, any color. Spray paint dries too fast to wipe off, so use an acrylic, like craft paint, artist tube-paint such as Liquitex or any brand, don't worry about brands, think more about thinking it just enough to be able to dab on and wipe off............ A gold, metallic, or pearlized paint as the first color would also be cool, if silver isn't your thing. You don't have to spray paint, she was just giving another way to do it, some people live where they can't really spray...... and any darker color will help set off the nooks and crannies, any color of the rainbow, or black, brown (or mix a little brown into the black so it isn't harsh looking, if it looks harsh to you). Could also paint main part silver and then go back over with thinned gold or copper for the deeper parts, have different metallics. Play and have fun. .............And...about eggshells and the membrane, yes, clean it out, it can degrade. Eggshells are calcium and won't degrade under normal circumstances (without a solvent).......... Methods: Other commenters have said: Bake 'em at 350°F for an hour, or boil for 10 minutes or so and they come out. Or, soak in vinegar for 10 min (but the longer they are in vinegar, the more the shell breaks down, so my own self, I'd try baking first, so they don't absorb water and become weaker, or vinegar and break down. ..........Think about vinegar, we use it to get rid of hard water lines and deposits on showers and vases, etc., which is usually calcium and lime, and eggshells are mostly calcium, so, best not to soak too long, it will weaken them.................... You could also dye them like you do Easter eggs (yes, with a little vinegar to help it absorb the color, and some food coloring, but use strong color so it's not for very long, seconds or a few minutes), with whatever random colors, (test a little piece first!) and decorate and seal with varnish, for a softer coloring........................ There is some question about shoe polish, bc it may not play well with acrylic over time. I see it mostly was bc it was easy to rub off. Most people have acrylic anyway if they're painting, so just thin some just enough to spread and rub off. If it's going to dry too fast, you can work in sections, just never let the edge dry out, it won't blend. Do just enough that your working area stays wet, so the next section you do will blend in........... Can also use any glaze mixed with the paint, even house faux-glaze, makes paint a bit transparent, but it's another thing to try....and dab off with a dry or damp (test your preference) cloth. I like a damp cloth, rinsed often in a bucket of water, and I keep 2, for when one gets too dirty. If it's drying fast, a damp cloth over the wet area may slow it down 'til you get to it, but have everything ready. Hope that helps someone....
The shoe polish Idea is genius....how have I never tried this....because of watching your vid, I tried it on a textured piece, added so much depth....I painted it and sold same day!....you rock!.....thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome... I love the egg shell texture. You demonstrate easy and your videos are edited so they don't take long to watch and all the necessary information is given...I'm a beginner at this and I love your videos....Once I finish a project I will post to your facebook page, again Thanks.
I just tried this. It turned out pretty good! For those asking about finishing work and modge lodge I just used generic modge podge from Michaels. I then finished it off for sealing it with just a regular spray can of adhesive. I sprayed it once a day for three days letting it dry in the garage. Instead of using shoe polish because I was scared of getting the wrong kind I used gold trim craft paint that I dabbed on with a sponge and it looks really pretty. I'd suggest putting your egg shells into a zip lock bag over night and letting them fully dry before applying. I was impatient and it took longer to dry with the mod podge being wet. Dunno how long it will hold up but I'm sure long enough for it to be worth the time to do it. Use a SMALL canvas board for this project!!!
You have the sweetest voice!! You should totally do some guided meditation videos on here... lol Love the tutorial!! Never tried the shoe polish but definitely buying some tomorrow!
just suscribed to your channel! :) those two eggshell videos were awesome! just what i needed to see :) been trying to figure out the best way to scale my dragon, so, thanks! looking forward to seeing more of your cool videos
love the videos/lessons - keep them coming :-) i'm a beginner at painting (my normal creative work is in photography) your videos help me learn new techniques, they give me inspiration, and they help me create new ideas
This is really cool although I don't really know what I could use this technique on! Have you ever tried this with leaves? I did one once where I used good ol Elmer's and thinned it down a bit with water and dipped the leaves first and then applied them to the canvas. Then with acrylic I painted over them and created the painting. Now I am going to watch your hot glue video! You have some really cool ideas!
Hi Amy I'm on that rougher texture.. tried the flat but not a big fan.. I found washing the eggshells inside and out and air drying much easier than dealing with the wet..
It has a very modern feel...be great in a kitchen that has stainless steel applicances in it. I wonder about using the egg shells for a kitchen picture where the egg shells aren't painted...just a thought?
Haven't seen any replies to this question, so figure I would ask it again. Why shoepolish vs acrylic? How do you get it seal in so it doesn't come off later on? PS - love your work
Beautiful work. I used KIWI show polish and it dried too fast and didn't come off as it did in your video. I should probably do a section at a time. Thank you for sharing.
Nice video. I was wondering with all the paints out there like acrylic, oil etc i was wondering what is the special quality that the show polish have Thanks
Do you have to use shoe polish? I love this technique for my powder room; which is a beach theme. I would like to paint the shell in a mother of pearl color. Any other ideas? Thanks for the video.
hi. very nice.. I am going to try this in a day or two. Could you tell me what do I need to do to maintain the canvas. Will the shoe polish require regular touch up after few months?
Hi Amy - could you let me know what type of shoe polish you use on your egg shells and where do you get it from? I can only find the one on the short, round can. It doesn't have the same affect as the one you use. Thanks Amy!
I loved the video! I do not speak English so I need the translator google u could answer me what the name of the product you use before placing the egg shell? grateful for the attention
+Rodrigo Costa The product she uses is called Mod Podge and it is available at any craft store (i.e. Michael's, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's,etc... I think I've even seen it at Wal-Mart). I hope this helps you.
Is shoe polish permanent? Should we seal this with something? I love this technique and cannot wait to try it!! Thanx so much for the video Amy!! Blessings! Jennifer :)

Tom Butler what is the significance of the shoe polish if you dont mind me asking...?
It goes into the ridges and you can wipe it off from the top very easily
Will the shoe polish come off later. I mean will the shoe polish that is in the cracks smudge our hands!?

Can you also use transparent black paint?
Beautiful ! Thank you !
That was pretty wicked!
Love it! Please make more videos like this!!!!
love it!!! thank you so much for the great ideas! :)
Sheila M. Swenson, CH which kinda glu she use kindly tell me the name?
Great job! Although I'm worried that the polish will come off. Can't we use black acrylic paint?
Great ideas, what kind of shoe polish do you use? I have never seen it in a jar. Do you spray the finished project to seal everything?
Beautiful!!!
Haven't seen any replies to this question, so figure I would ask it again. Why shoepolish vs acrylic? How do you get it seal in so it doesn't come off later on? PS - love your work
thank you soo much for your tutorial's you are very funny and nice God bless you and your baby😘
It`s a very good idea, with the eggs.
I love the shoe polish effect, but how would you seal this, or does the shoe polish eventually dry completely??
Beautiful work. I used KIWI show polish and it dried too fast and didn't come off as it did in your video. I should probably do a section at a time. Thank you for sharing.
Love it!!! Where did you get the shoe polish from?
Nice video. I was wondering with all the paints out there like acrylic, oil etc i was wondering what is the special quality that the show polish have
Thanks
shades are awesome using shoe polish
very nice love it
what other choices of glue do you recommend? Also, why the show polish, rather than paint? Awesome video nonetheless ❤️
Thanks a very useful lesson.
I love this!!!!
Do you have to use shoe polish? I love this technique for my powder room; which is a beach theme. I would like to paint the shell in a mother of pearl color. Any other ideas? Thanks for the video.
Cold Wax Medium mixed it with any oil based paint of your choice.
VERY DIFFERENT AND BEAUTIFUL.
Beautiful work! how do you seal the shoe polish and isn't it oily with it?
Great idea and well explained and demonstrated.
Great! Love it.
nice work Amy
Amazing!!!!!!!!!! can u plz tell me what type of mod podge should we use?
A must try!
hi. very nice.. I am going to try this in a day or two. Could you tell me what do I need to do to maintain the canvas. Will the shoe polish require regular touch up after few months?
Excellent! Thank you.
this is really cool!!
very nice too!
Cool. I wonder if you boil your eggs first or not???
nice... can you please tell me..which art paper you are using for this texture paint.
I love it very much. thank you
Gorgeous!!!!
loved the ideas. do you varnish over the finished piece? if so, what do you use?
Can’t varnish over wax shoe polish, but you can buff it up with a soft cloth when it is touch dry. It is the wax that is the sealer.
The shoe polish gives the effect of antiquing :D.
Love it!

Amazing 👌
Simple n cooool
this is so great thank you very much
Amy, I think you should use the Podge word instead of glue. Isn't that what you are using?
So Cool !!!
thank you for your innovation :)
hey i just want to ask, does it need to be varnished or not? i'm a newbie n a self-tought n found ur channel is so inspiring, thankyou!

I like it.
Really pretty :)
I will try inn sha ALLAH.
Tnks ma'am
Plz guide me how to create texture using yarn paper nd fabric separately
Awesome
Is shoe polish permanent? Should we seal this with something? I love this technique and cannot wait to try it!! Thanx so much for the video Amy!! Blessings! Jennifer :)
I was wondering the same thing. I'm thinking adding a seal coat would be ideal since shoe polish will rub off.
so cool!!!
Why shoe polish? wouldn't you get the same effect with a dark acrylic paint?
can use crushed sea shells
Beautiful
Very nice and thanks :)
i have an idea i will apply it on my sketch book on its outer board thanks :)
