nobody responds to this comment because everyone agrees with it, except for me and readi, we needed to point out the obvious.
@@ihatemyneighbour226 you did a good job

"what if we tried to hit a baseball with pieces of organic styrofoam held together with pencils"
Well when you put it that way….
😂😂😂😂😂👆
Is that really how light balsa wood is? That it's comparable to styrofoam?
@@randomnpc445 especially light basla wood is nearly as light as typical styrofoam, but it was hyperbole. Balsa is closer to styrofoam than woods like oak though.
@@randomnpc445 Yeah. Go visit your local craft shop and see for yourself! Also, while you're there, get a model plane to build out of the wood! 😁👍🏻
Ironically, I was watching woodworking videos immediately prior to this one. The contrast was ... amazing.
Thank you?
@@WaterjetChannel doves are insulted by your dovetails. But I still like you
Something that Waterjet Chanell never did, apparently ...
I know, I took a double credit in wood working, this was definitely a contrast.
@@jwalster9412 I mean, I get it, it's clearly ment as an entertainig video which it is, but I was aleso courious to see how a properly made bat from that type of wood would perform. And even if they couldn't find one proper piece of wood from which to make the bat at least put a bit of efford to give it as much chances as possible to make a bat that could be used/tested at least a couple of times.
I would've been shocked if that bat didn't do exactly what you showed when you used it.
"8 oz...but for those of you who do drugs, 225 grams."
Favorite quote from this video LOL
If you’re not counting in ounces then you’re just not doing enough drugs. Yet. Give it time
Can't believe this shop lacks basic bar tools, like a bar clamp.
that's it, get in the waterjet
What he said ^^
@@WaterjetChannel how are you gonna keep me in the water jet? You ain’t got any basic tools like a bar clamp to hold me down.
@@wesleysmith7410 they got plumbers tape and self tappers though.
Or a lathe, right??!!
I love when you guys make random stuff in such a ghetto way. No proper tools, osha and A LOT of just fucking around and having fun with the boys in the warehouse.
These kinds of videos have become my favorite type to watch from you guys so please keep em comin!
that's the point, casual shenanigans
carbon fibre layer will bring the real bat out of this masterpiece...

That shelf shot at the end is great. Keep doing that.

That is a frankly terrifying revelation

This was my favorite video I’ve seen in a while hahaha
ur gei lul
Heyyyy I know you😜
You need to get out more
@@WaterjetChannel 🤣😂
Ayy yooo, your rings are beautiful lol but they are priceyyyy
but can you make it lighter and stronger? Like make it out of carbon fibre, fill it with foam or something.
or a hollow carbon fiber
@@randomlaserturret3171 i don't think you understand how carbon fiber works. It would just shatter
The foam would absorb some of energy of the impact so maybe not
You should make the same exact thing, but just put a 3/8" oak dowel through the whole thing so it doesn't explode.
Woah. The bat went further than the ball.
I'm halfway through the video and anxiously anticipating seeing how many pitches this balsa wood bat actually survives.
Mariano Rivera made a career out of breaking normal bats and making it look easy. You're all obviously God tier athletic specimens, so I bet you make it look even easier and I can't see this bat surviving more than a single decent swing with contact.
When doing the glue-up, you could have glued all edge-grain to edge-grain by staggering the lengths of the pieces being glued. If you want a light bat that doesn't break so easily, you might also try a balsa core.
How destructive would that bat be if you fired it out of your air cannon?
The obvious way to go is to make the next bat hollow, that would be even lighter, it would be a Pinger, not a Dinger though.
I like how it didn't break at the weak connection point. No, the dowel you used to connect it was so much stronger than the bat, that it broke at the ends of the dowel glued inside.
Me the whole time: "yeah that's going to snap in two"
Welp, I was wrong. It snapped in three!
Wow.
You guys are absolutely terrible builders.
I love it. I need more.
I expect a "DIY entertainment center build.(Wrong answers only)" video or something similar shortly.
the wood is really terrible
love how the ball managed to crush and break the bat all at the same time
Right in the sweet spot baby. Good hit. Carbon fiber rod insert perhaps?
I love all the memes you guys add in the videos, especially the spongebob ones.
3:47 this moment cracks me up every time
Lol
7:20 Being included feels so nice 🙂 thank you sir
Lmao the end of the video 😂
The second you said what wood you would use I knew the outcome but I couldn’t stop watching! Good stuff!
I would love to see you guys use the lightest wood that actually has some strength and then do the heaviest wood and see which one does better
broke at the glue joints no one could have possibly seen that coming
Next time stagger the blocks so your not expecting glue to hold it together, (it would probably still break when hit but, it would look like at least one person there wasn't huffing glue.)
next time. lol
Well if they use epoxy to glue it together with doing that then pain the entire thing with thin ca glue it will stabilize the bat with out adding much weight. Would also be useful to run a single half inch by half inch spruce spar through the entire bats core and use balsa that is only around 1/4 the diam of the bat with overlaps. Honestly it could end up being damn hard to break
@@nanaki-seto except it's balsa wood. it's as structural as styrofoam
@@natalieisagirlnow Oh it isn't gona survive more than maybe 2 or 3 hits for dang sure. Far as Styrofoam goes i think it might be stronger than balsa lmao. For that matter they could make a bat from just that styrofoam and cover it in fiberglass and get a few solid hits fro it and would be stupid light weight. I would say stabilized balsa bat they might hit 2 or 3 balls before it turns in to splinters :)
@@nanaki-seto even a solid piece wouldn't survive 1 hit. the stuff is literally the weight and strength of styrofoam
Maybe a carbon fiber insert/shank through the center and some epoxy would have kept it together. Though a better idea is a water jet lathe turned carbon fiber bat.
A real feat of engineering and amazing skills were combined for this video
@Waterjet Channel _Come on 1 Million Subscribers! It won't be long now! My 2 sons and dad (myself) love your channel!_ *Thanks* 👍
Unlike the bat, this video was a masterpiece.
you know these guys were the smart and chill group in highschool
Make one out of insulation foam and fiberglass it. Should be almost as light but much stronger.
You could get longer planks of balsa from other places like National Balsa, guys
That swing met my expectations perfectly. Lighter materials, ironically enough, don't get enough momentum from a swing to transfer any speed into the ball.
Now hear me out
Put the waterjet
on a bat
If u go to hardwood stores, some have pre-made billits for lathe work. The one I go to here in San Diego had some that were 24" long made of balsa wood and I think they could even cut longer ones and were 4" wide. So if u ever do this again, don't go to a craft store, go to a wood working store and go to the precut lathe wood area... 😀
A dowel down the center of the bat might have worked better than a pencil.
result would be the same. see what happens when you use a dowel as a bat
He said, "And for those of you that do drugs"😂😂
That's exactly why I expected to happen with the dovetails and pencil LOL
3:15 My "fun first safety second" motto has been vindicated!
09:55 is where the balsa wood bat predictably splinters when swung
This deserves a redo with a full piece
Try a sturdy wooden bat hollowed with a metal tube in the center and then wood put back into the tube right at the sweet spot making it light and fast but also hard and sturdy on impact.
What happened to these guys?
can you stabilize balsa wood in resin and a vacuum chamber? how tough would that be?
Where did they go why it chang e the host
The next video better be a bat made out of a solid piece of balsa - else riot.
I saw this coming when you said balsa wood, then had to dovetail it together.
Still, awesome video. Awesome idea. I'd like to see it done with a full piece of balsa. It'll still fly apart, but I bet it sends the ball farther.
Or try it with pine or cedar. Normal bats are made with Ash or other similar wood.
this was like watching a bunch of patricks from spongebob make something. i know at some point during filming someone said "yeah i hope it breaks in the waterjet so the video will be longer"...to play an add
Pro tip: avoid dove tail joints by staggering your glue joints
Use a solid piece of solid balsa or basswood to make the bat. Core the barrel with a improved polymer. Resin and kevlar the outside. There is you dinger bat.
And that's why bats are made as one whole piece.
Pretty much what I expected.
Love the videos guys!!! More videos!
5:38 best part
Save the wood pulp cut off by the water jet and make it into paper. Then draw batman swinging a bat on it and call it "bat-paper"
The bat breaks in two halfway through being made
"Oh. So I guess they're going to start over again"
**They glue it back together**
_"Ah. I see where this is going now."_
That's pretty neat. If you're determined to use balsa, 1 piece or 3 doesn't really matter because of how soft it is. What you can try, is getting a piece of 1/4 20 all-thread that is the length you want, drill all your pieces and use either wood glue or two part Acreglass. Acreglass will give you more strength and help prevent loss of energy when hitting the ball, but acre glass is heavier than the wood glue significantly and it's also harder to work with(it gets everywhere. Also it looks kinda like peanut butter, for the love of all that is holy, do not eat it. It is a lie, it is a temptress and she wants you to fall prey to her perceived deliciousness, but it is a facade!) So you can cut the dovetails still for added strength, you'll just have to put the dovetails together before slotting in the all thread. All this would allow you to thin out the profile of the bat and sort of make up for the added weight of the steel core.
5:40 we all imagined this when you saw a pencil next to sandpaper
Where is Mitchell
this channel has come a long way
you did the hypothetical thing that secret base joked about in their "One simple rule inspired a full-on heist because that's baseball" video
if you glue together the wood like a brick layer the bat should be much stronger because you have no parting line vertical to your stress lines.
That bat did exactly what I thought it would do
Def gotta have another go at it please buy the damn right wood next time
This is for the whole CREW.
your field engineering skills are superb .
The no comment ending while they are putting the dinger up on the shelf is great
That was exactly the outcome I was expecting
You can do what swords do: have the weight at the base of the bat so the tip moves faster. I'd fear it would be a pretty bad bat but what do I know?
Water jet wood turning. That's satisfying
>Surely there's no way these guys outsmarted engineers at every bat making company
*Bat explodes* Well it felt good to be right at least lol
I need to come up with something edgy for you guys to do
Cut a 90 degree section out of a barrel along the length and see if it still functions
@@jamesb2291 cutting the barrel of a gun won't prevent it from functioning.
I didn't say just cut it though... It needs to be sectioned along the length so there's a slot from the chamber to the tip of the barrel.
You should've made a bat out of black ironwood
Could always do balsa or cedar strips and glue/laminate them for added strength.
I died laughing at the end.
COMPLETELY saw that coming
The sound though. And yeah this is why balsa isn't readily available in long pieces.
Love the ding right on the D in Dingers.
Make it from one solid piece of balsa
A dowel down the entire middle may have fixed that...emphasis on "may have"...
I have not seen the end yet but after seeing the pencil dowel, I give this bat 1 good swing before exploding.
Edit: I was not surprised at all haha
I think wood bats are rammed through dies rather than lathed, they're squished into shape.
Chopping-block joints have narrow inch-long meshing-teeth-grooves with several inches of shared surface area to absorb shock without over-stressing the glue.
This shop has a giant hand operated press, but no bar clamp.
Did the tip of the bat go further then the ball?
Yes
Mitchell's laugh was probably the highlight of this video and I shan't apologize for that comment.
1:43 lmao the wood is "floating" away
Hahaha now that's some joinery
They probably could have carved the entire bat with a butter knife due to how soft balsa wood is. Probably would have been faster that way also
You've got to revisit this one with a longer piece of wood if possible.
When the bat goes further than the ball lol
That ended perfectly
Woodworkers everywhere can't believe their eyes.
Hey, it's called the waterjet channel, not the woodworking or bar clamp channel. Far as I'm concerned, you've ticked the boxes with this one.
I died when the OH NO popped in
next try a form and fiberglass bat, you can even be used to say method to shape the foam
