Another benefit of the S-video input is for capturing true BW video, which is pure 60Hz vs the 59.94Hz of color NTSC. Also, the composite video input has a notch filter for the color signal that smears the BW video mid-band. BW captured through the Y channel of the YC input looks fantastic. Get a YC breakout cable, plug in your BW source (Y) and just ignore the (C) chroma . I did this recently with a silly project on my channel called the Cartrivision Portapac, where I was repurposing the BW camera for that obsolete video tape system. I used the ClearClick 1 for my recorder. Worked great.
to answer your question, i would need more information. On what format is the recording? DVR usually have some sort of cassette like mini tape and newer digital cameras use hard disk or memory cards. In this case they are not cross compatible. you would have to convert one to the other format.
I got a bunch (30) old VHS family videos I need to convert to digital thumb drive or something newer. Is this the best converter on the market for DIY?
I have a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV130 would it still be compatible with this device? There's no red, white, yellow inputs on this camera so how would I go about connect this devise to my camera if it does work?
Yes, it will work, but your camcorder needs a proprietary type of AV cable. This one would probably fit: www.amazon.com/Replacement-VMC-15FS-VMC-30FS-Compatible-Camcorder/dp/B08H27QS9Y/ref=sr_1_3
I'm using a Sony DCR-TRV16e to convert my Hi8 tapes. When using the S Video socket on both I get a better picture but no sound? I've done multiple choice on both menus plugged the S Video cable in to the Sony and unit and both red and white cables too, I get a loud buzzing noise but still no sound, why is this??
It's because S-Video only contains a video signal (no audio signal). You still need to connect the red and white cables. If you're getting buzzing, likely you're using the wrong type of AV cable.
Does anyone know if I can record from the device without taping something on the camcorder first? For example can I record what is shown on the viewfinder without anything being recorded on the camcorder? Or do I need to record to tape>playback to the converter? Idk if this is a dumb question or if it even makes sense lol can someone help me :0
U should have made a fire wire input port for mini dv camcorders so we can get the best quality in mini dv using your clearclick divice than looking for converters all the time. For example canon xlh1 have sdi port if I buy the clearclick ultimate I will use the av port and thereby video quality will reduce. But a firewire port will be a solution to all minidv camcorders😊
Firewire is already a digital interface (you can connect the camera directly to a computer), so it's not needed on an analog to video to digital converter :)
Hoping someone can help me please 🙏 The vhs player is have has the red and white only I need the yellow to acces the video, please can someone advise me
This is cool. Some questions: 1) What video file format does it save to and is there a way to set the compression quality to optimize for either quality (less artifacts) or quantity (more footage per GB) 2) Does it upscale without distorting, even if the source is 4:3 and the output is 16:9 aspect ratio? 3) What happens when eventually the battery no longer holds a charge? Can it be replaced? Can this product still be used plugged in? 4) Can I connect it to a TV for viewing on a bigger screen?
@@GrymsArchive Wow. Thank you 🙏 It seems you get what you pay for in this craft. Appreciate your detailed answer. Is there any reasonably priced brand you use and trust for analog capture? Elgato comes to mind as I see quite a number of archivers use it. But is there anything better?

Hello! What deinterlacing method applied, does it preferable and can produce 50/60p from 50/60i (motion adaptive)?
VHS is a 4×3 format but your converter shows a 16x9 format.
How is this possible ?
The recorder is 3:2 by default, but you can change to 4:3 in the converter's menu/settings!
TBC?
Well! We shall see...
Can i use this with our ultrasound machine to record 2d echo footages?

Red and white are for audio only. Your VCR must then have an s-video connector as shown in video. Please double check.
could have scart connection also dear friend.
My tapes are so glitchy when I record it, but when I view them on my camcorder they aren’t glitchy. How do I fix this?
Contact us at parts@clearclick.com! We have an adapter that will fix this.
can I use external hard disk instead of usb drive?
Some are compatible, while others are not. That's why we officially recommend a USB flash drive that is 512GB or smaller.
Can you edit the recording?
Not on the device, but if you purchase the "Bundle Edition," it comes with video editing software for PC & Mac.
Audio is not in sync with the video. How do I fix it?
This is caused by a low-quality USB flash drive. Make sure you're using a high quality drive such as SanDisk.
Does it record stereo (2 channels sound) when record the video?
As long as you're connecting Red and White, you'll capture stereo. Of course, your audio stream has to be in stereo.
I captured a music programme broadcast in stereo and the resulting MP4 does rather sound like it's stereo.
Can it record 720x480 at 60 FPS? I see similar products limited to 30 FPS only.
The instruction manual suggests it can operate at 720x480p60

I used the usb that came with your bundle :(
Is it out of sync on the converter's Playback mode or just on your PC/Mac?
What is the picture quality like after the copy to USB?
It is completely dependent on the quality of the source material.
Do we still need a tape to record and save the recording on the sd card
The tape (VHS tape) is your source material. This product transfers the tape’s content to a video file on the SD or USB drive.
