I just found my old GL1 in the crawl space. Hoping to be able to get it going again using this tapeless method! Now, back to digging for my box of lenses.
If you still see your footage in 60 fps. Then post compression might change that. You need to export the footage again but set the frame rate. In media encoder you can export the footage at 29 (or 24 like I do) then you will get the correct frame rate
IF IT IS hi8, then you need to transmit the maximum quality through s-video without the brightness noise that is layered through the composite output. But the question is where is such a portable recorder and how will it process interlaced video?
Hi. Many people make VHS or Hi8 camcorders as examples. I bought digital camcorders Panasonic SDR-S100 and Panasonic SV-AV50. Some recording devices do not work well with those devices. I wonder if Clearclick 2.0 will work on them. These devices can only record for about 25 mins 480p. I plan to record and save directly on this device so I can record longer than that (1hr or more). I lesrned from you that I just have to connect the camcorder and turn them on, and press the record button on the digital converter, and not on the camcorder. I wonder if that works on my camcorders as well. I'm excited to buy once I confirmed this matter
VERY important to know about the Clearclick 2.0 - it ONLY records in 50/60 fps. I truly don't know why anyone would want that but 30fps is not an option so buyer beware. Still on the hunt for a similar device that records native 30fps
Surely that makes the Clearclick 2.0 unusable, no? VHS tape is either 25fps or 29.97fps, so that would be unusable for recording from VHS. I'm guessing that's also what the camera would record at, so it would have double useless frames?!
I have a 80s Cannon VC20A and that has to connect via wire to the accompanying vcr unit in order to record. I wonder how I’d go about rigging that up for tapeless
watched this video cause i got feedback on my rig with the volume up so i thought i messed up somewhere but it looks like i didn’t! thanks for the info - quick and to the point. just a question though, will the camcorder microphone work with this setup still? and with the audio turned down on the capture device that feedback won’t be recorded correct?
I noticed that there was a ringing sound whenever I have my clearclick on near to my external mic. I haven’t been able to test it yet but i was wondering if you know if the ringing shows up in the footage. p.s. great video
Any recommendation for a battery replacement for this camcorder? I have an exact model but my batteries are dead. Im dying to convert my 8mm tapes to digital.
Neat video for that type of camera. Does the camera use the on board microphone to record the sound and I'm guessing the sound could still be recorded if a mic was plugged in to a cam with a mic jack???
I was advised on a video forum that instead of using the outdated and expensive SONY HVR-MRC1, I could opt for a more cost-effective solution. The suggestion is to use an S-Video to HDMI converter along with devices like an Atomos Ninja or BMD Video Assist to record the incoming video stream. I am curious if anyone has experience with this setup or has any input on its effectiveness. Thank you.
This is really interesting. Not fully sure what kind of bitrate this would shoot at etc but I've just gone and bought a load of tapes and also a backwards compat digital8 camcorder to have the option of firewire transfer. Now I'm thinking maybe tapeless could be way to go or especially if I want to pick up a camcorder model down the line which doesn't have a screen or I take a risk on a untested or spares or repair one. I haven't got a video handle like that yet but I guess it's more for skate or rolling applications than more static shots. Thanks for the video
Yeah this movo handle doesn’t seems to be in stock anymore. But all of these kinds of handles have threads in the bottom where you screw it into the bottom of the camera. So you can also attach the whole setup to a tripod if you want
Can I use this instead of Sony's memory stick system? My HDR-FX7 has an HDMI output and I'm wondering if it would work with clearclick/similar capture devices.
@@brandoncameracollection Right, right. Would you consider doing a video on converting these later MiniDV, Firewire, Memorystick type camcorders in the future? I actually misspoke earlier and the camera has S-Video, Firewire and Sony Component jacks.
Here is a silly question for you, One of the ways to save is to use a thumb drive, right. Well, I have a stand alone unit a portable hard drive. Could I use this? I will have to look but I think it is a 200 gig HD. IN the past I had some important files and I saved them to a thumb drive. About three years later I got a fairly decent computer. Got my thumb drive out the one with the important files. Popped it in to the new computer and all those files were gone. I know when I copied those files to the New Scan Disk thumb drive they were there because I checked, then sealed up the thumb drive and put it away. So, I would not get it mixed up or write over it. Still they are gone.
do you remember what phone mount that is? the one you linked in the description isnt the same one. i have a ulanzi and its pretty flimsy with my clearclick. trying to find a nice sturdy one that doesnt move around alot. thanks
Brandon, I am concerned about that the AV 1 port does not have enough power to drive the capture device. I saw that in another video. Would connecting the Component cable and the AV 1 cable be enough? Did you happen to test the AV1 port on the XH A1 with the Clear click capture device?
I had gone tapeless for my Sony TRV-900 and I tend to have a glitch effect whenever I transition between shots, I’ve made a couple inspections on my camcorder and came to the conclusion that it was in fact the clear click glitching the footage. Is there any suggestions that you would have for these type of issues?
That I’m not sure. I’ve only had one camera do that and it was my Panasonic pv-420. I’m not sure why it does it but you can try emailing clearclick about the issues. They are usually really good about helping with issues.
Would this still work for a camcorder that has one audio/video port? The cable that was with it has a single plug on one end and two on the other (white and yellow). From what I can understand, the converter is what actually records the video so you press the record button on the converter and not camcorder. Is that the same with photos? Regarding quality, will the converter still have the same resolution that the camcorder sees? I want to preserve that to keep the retro like feel. For example, like in those old school import car videos from the 90s and early 2000s.
Yes so the AV plug in is the same thing. It’s just all compacted into one av out. You would just need to use a 3-1 av cable like this for it to work: amzn.to/44xi5dt
Do you think this works for cam corders that cant record with tapes anymore? I wanna bypass the safeguard mode with my mini dv and go tapeless but not sure if ittl record or still be useless

No it would be the same quality either way. Yes it would work with the pc7e. And running it tapeless makes it easier after your done filming and you can use that method if your tape deck is broken as well since you don’t need a tape in the camera.

Yes so s-video is only a video connection. It does not have audio. So to get audio with it you have to run the red and white wire from the av cable with the s-video to get audio with it. The red and white wire is the audio for the av. If that all makes sense 😅
