I’ve been thinking about this video for a while since I filmed it and I don’t know if I addressed everything I should have. So please express disagreements if you have and I may make a follow up video if this gets enough views. Thank you for watching:)

I gotta say man, I saw a comment of yours on a youtube video about this topic and saw that you posted your artworks and made videos on your channel, so I just wanted to come and show some support. I definitely agree with a lot of your takes, and even though I'm quite scared about the whole ethics regarding this, these technologies being used to push artists out of an industry for what is essentially just soulless corporate gain, threats of a future where humans don't really do anything and just live unfulfilling lives, the oversaturation of creative fields, and the plethora of other issues regarding AI art and a AI in general really, I still do have hope. I have hope that people do care enough about the other people behind the end product, their story and the emotions they went through and expressed through the piece, rather than an AI who simply made the artwork, music, tv show, movie or whatever it is with the sole purpose of creating something that stimulates your brain in a certain way (which is ultimately what it would be even if the AI technically made something better). And hey, if anything, I clicked on your channel and am writing this right now because of that human element, so here's hoping for the best.
Keep it up man, I appreciate the work you do and what you make!

This is what it’s all about! I’m fairly uncomfortable talking about AI art because I’ll probably have to eat my words at some point, but I made these videos because I want people to show eachother we care about artists. If we can keep that care, we can always find a way to support them regardless of the technology out there.
Thank you for reaching out and taking the time to write such a heartfelt comment. I hope you’ll enjoy my content in the future :)

AI art resonates more with me than human art.
Instead of getting the perspective of a biased human from a relatively homogenous group, you get the perspective of people from all walks of life interpreted by a neutral party possessing the sum total of all visual knowledge of humanity. And that's amazing.
And it's not just a philosophical thing. I can spend hours and hours on the AI art forums, subreddits, discord just watching all the creations. Most of the places centering human art bore me within minutes.

I can see how that's possible.
However, I dont see hardly any of those images as an expression of the person typing the prompt. Especially since AI can randomly generate prompts. In that way, its just random AI art. There's cool aspects of AI art but the heart isn't there for me personally (considering no additional changes are made to the image).
But if human art just bores you then idk what to tell you...Mid Journey is already starting to bore me because of the repetitive patterns in it.

@@Jham3D I understand. I don't expect everyone or even the majority to share that view. It's just mine.
But I do disagree with the random part. I see it very much an expression of the user in collaboration with the AI. It's not any more random than what a director gets when he instructs his staff.
You can choose the subject, the mood , the lighting , the style , the colours. And you aren't choosing from a drop down list. You can mix and match in novel proportions. You can even supply your own image ( which can be as simple as a doodle ) to effect composition and style. You can keep the seed the same and change the prompt to make small edits to it. Even for the parts left to randomness , you can iterate and iterate over and over even thousands of times to get it exactly where you want it.
That's more freedom and expression than any art director or artist using assistants will ever have.
I guess it depends on where you're hanging out. If it's only the Midjorney discord or website showcase, I can see that. There's a default Midjourney look which is kind of simmilar to Pinterest/Deviantart and that makes sense since it's converged on what the majority find tasteful or least offensive. This is like the tutorial section of a video game. If you're seeing that pattern only, you haven't explored it beyond this tutorial stage.
Also Midjorney isn't the only AI visual synthesizer. I personally find Stable Diffusion ( including the community ) more compelling.

I disagree on the random point. It is more random than an art director when the user instructs AI to generate 10 random ideas then picks one without any intention other than just because it sounds cool.
I'm aware of other AI. While I haven't used all of them, I have used DALLE and MJ. My entire Instagram feed is raided with it now and it's somewhat disheartening. Artists who used to put lots of thought, heart, and years of skill into their work, are now just spamming midjourney art for clout. Its like what happened when NFTs dropped but on steroids lol
When users make further changes to the image, that is a different story to me. This is one of the things I forgot to mention in my video. I don't have a problem with people using it as a tool, however, its a real head shake for me when they accept the first image it spits out as final. If anything, this allows artists to get really good at fine tuning, but only the skillful designers have the instincts for that. Most are just posting bland images, only narrowly understanding the prompt.
Anyways, at the end of the day, I respect the grind and craftsmanship artists go through. I don't want society to lose respect for them just because they chose to use more primitive technology and spent more time. It's not just about the final image for many artists, and I hope enough people will understand that. (This is not addressing employment, but passion projects per say)

@@Jham3D Depends on how you use it i guess.
As low effort but still pretty images get more common with AI , that spam will stop as people will stop paying attention to it. AI is here to stay but the AI spam problem I think is only temporary, as it will subside as more people get to know about it.
