This tournament was FUCKING insane. Saturday, having the top 3 in losers before the top 24 was wild. Sonix making one of the greatest losers runs of all time. Sparg0 losing 4 games this ENTIRE tournament and bring the young lion Roy to stop Sonix's huge momentum and clutching his first ever Supernova win! Shoutouts to Asimo as well for being the highest placing JP player with Solo RYU. Melee was also bonkers with Junebug getting 3rd with DK?! With Mang0 being the youngest and oldest player to win a major (GOAT). There is too much to talk about. This tournament was fire 🔥
@@kestrelynn Like I said there is so much to talk about. Marss my goat content creator beating Miya (1st seed) 3-0 was awesome and being so close in beating Acola was an incredible performance.
The tournament was awesome to watch. Asimo getting 4th with Ryu was an incredible accomplishment. SpargO winning the tournament with Roy. Supernova really delivered.
That Roy was the hypest shit ever. I like to imagine Kola was halfway to bed, hanging up his Roy sword when EE called him and said "Yo! Spargoat just whooped Sonic with Roy!" And a smile crept onto Kola's face and a tear ran down his cheek as he pulls the sword off the hook and says quietly "We ain't washed yet..."
If Marss had beaten Acola, he would have gotten a win over Miya, Onin, and Acola all at the same tournament. He was *SO* close. I believe in the big guy.
you could tell marss had a little more fire inside him this tournament. hopefully it’s a sign of things to come. a motivated marss who actually enjoys attending tournaments is only good for the scene
I dont think anyone really discredits sonix’s skill. The character is just so aggressively anti fun. Loses no match ups. Non existent disadvantage and one of the most versatile and oppressive advantage states in the game plus best camper. Character has everything.
For sure, he's Hella good. fighting sonic is annoying yea bruh so is zss lol. And steve and gnw Marss and sonix are cracked and miya lost against the 2 hardest characters to pin down
@@pocketvices key difference being that zss does no damage compared to sonic. Kill set ups, edge guarding, camping, defensive play, speed, sonic clears in all of those. She's just a skinny girl with flip jump lol
Kind of nice that there was a period in the middle of the podcast with just two people and one of them was Marcus. I like it most when the gangs all there, but when that's the case, it often feels like Marcus is the person who is most likely to just sit back and let other people talk and I feel like he usually winds up with the least talk time. He's got such great insight into player mentality and a unique way that he looks at the game. He feels more like an impartial coach than tweek does, but more of a player than Chuck or Haz. I enjoyed him having some more time in the spotlight this episode.
It feels like its trying to take credit away from snow to say he didnt time out sonix. Even if sonix allowed it to happen to himself, it took presence of mind and a gameplan on the mario's part to successfully turn the strategy against him. I think a more interesting perspective on it is that the situation sheds light on a flaw in the tineout strategy
Unfortunate Tweek didnt get top 8 but man this event was one of, if not my fav of all time in ult with so many sick sets and highlight performances (Marss always a delight in tournament obviously) Also happy to hear Gavin is feeling motivated but hope he doesnt force himself to go out of obligation to the point of burnout 🙏
Haz's "UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE" combined with Tweek's mind-boggling finisher is the most memorable Ultimate moment for me. Seen a lot of epic moments but that just cannot be topped for me.
I feel like people are just brushing over the fact that Spargo went Roy and it’s no big deal. Bro has never used Roy in a tournament this highly scaled and with this much stakes. That was an insanely hype out of left field pick.
Apparently Spargo was up like 14-3 in friendlies with the Roy and that was the decision maker plus he had another set to work with but it’s Sonix so anything is possible.
Some context when it comes to Acola taking off his mask. I found this on reddit. Apparently on the stream right after Supernova, he said that he took off his mask because he didn't think he'd beat Leo regardless, so it was an "I have nothing left to lose" moment for him
Acola looked so confident when he took it off. And the play reflected it. He's no joke, the real deal. Very hard to beat Acola, shout out to Sonix, and especially Yoshidora for pulling it ofd
@Tweek/ Gavin, You did amazing man, and I know you're focusing a lot more on your diet and physical health and you looked amazing brother! Getting results! Look forward to seeing you take a major again at some point this year for NA, much love to you and the cast :) (We miss you Chuck!)
27:20 I really felt it for Marss on the final day. Both of his losing sets, I recall seeing a number of misinputs and glaring mistakes (though I don't remember what they were). Marcus' recounting of the story after the set with Sparg0, I can understand. Same with Tweek's first game with Hurt. I felt that SD. Oh, and they recapped the SD Marss had against Acola. Well done, Jims. 57:00 the inspiration Dabuz had to use Olimar is due to Candle taking a dominant set off Acola at the Super Nova invitational pre local.
If pink fresh does that video on why Sparg0 can play so well against Sonix, I hope he takes a look at Zackray as well, if only for additional reference. Zackray is known in Japan to play against KEN a lot (they're friends), and the first time Zackray played against Sonix at Genesis earlier this year, the set was a really close 3-2 with Sonix barely winning.
