Great video presenting both sides. As a construction administrator, I experienced similar frustrations.

I am majoring in project management and just got my first internship and I am trying to understand RFI’s. This video really help me understand it further and why you need them. I just have one question. Could you please give a example? Say on the set of prints it shows that the bathroom walls are suppose to be red but in the specs it shows that they are green. Would you need a RFI for this?
    Thank you

      Alexander,
Thank you and yes, you would need an RFI. They are both contract documents but are contradictory. Where you may be able to have a conversation with the architect or consultants as to which document should be followed, even after that conversation you would want a confirming RFI. Think of it this way....you assume they are green, your sub assumes they are red.....both are correct per the documents but there is confusion which will likely end up as a bigger problem during install. The RFI provides the opportunity to clarify and then communicate to all those involved (which when it comes to bathroom walls, can be quite a few different trades...plumbing, electrical, drywallers, paint, tile, toilet accessories...) just to name a few. This helps clarify expectations among the entire team.

Hi, I am currently taking an estimating course and am having trouble with an assignment to FIND RFI's in a complete set of drawings and specs for a large High School. Do you have any suggestions?

Rob, this could be challening because RFIs are identifying the information or pieces of communication that are MISSING from the documents. They are not usually readily identifiable or easy to find. It is when communication is unclear or lacking and clarification is needed that an RFI is then created to request this information.

@@ogcapital__ check Udemy or Coursera, if you are not looking for a degree/certificate course.
