I hope that you can assist me. I need to buy software that compares bids side by side and identifies pricing and scope discrepancies, etc.. All suggestions would be appreciated. I only work with contractors who break down their bids. Does Procore have a module that will do this? It is overwhelming to analyze bids from 4-5 contractors with 200+ line items in each bid. I am not a construction professional; although, I have hired several contractors in the past few years for both small projects and major residential renovations. So, I am not a newbie and I am very capable using software with a steep learning curve. Thank you.

I would disagree on the Short Steel analogy. Someone will pay for the crew efficiency decrease. Analyse the schedule impact and pass the cost on with either a claim or change order. No reason for the contractor using contingency with out utilizing the process in place.
The Head Engineer would be in charge of all facets of engineering(structural/mechanical design) pertaining to a project. They are more adept at addressing the technical aspects of the project, and delegating the various engineers effectively -- whereas the Architect would be more equipped to assume the role of a Leader, mediating between all the various facets(Contractors, sub-contractors, Local Authority, Regional Administration, Quantity Surveyors) of the construction process. From what I gathered in the industry, the Architect articulates the preliminary design of the project to the Employer/Property Owner, along with the Quantity Surveyor's guiding hand, as to ensure optimal fiscal, environmental, and sustainable outcomes for the Property Owner. The Head Engineer would only report to the Architect, Quantity Surveyor, and the Contractors, as to ensure that they are following the overall design, and are completing the works in accordance with the variables set out in the Prime Contract... The Property Owner has little utility for the Structural/Mechanical reports of the Head Engineer, thus they would report to the Architect and the Quantity Surveyor. This line of command would dictate that the Architect assumes a Leadership role, preferably, over a Head Engineer. Also, Architects complete modules during the course of their tuition which equips them to manage and mediate between the facets of construction inter-and-intra-personally. This leadership should not be mistaken for a rung among the competency hierarchy, I believe both the Architect and Head Engineer are equally invaluable to a successful project! My knowledge on this is admittedly pretty elementary, but that's how I have it. Correct me if I'm wrong!

As he stated in the video the architect has a contract with the owner, and the general contractor has a contract with the owner. The architect hires structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineers as consultants for a project. Technically they work for the architect and not the owner, so that is why they report to the architect. Engineers don’t design buildings, they design components of a building.
In California, Contractors need 4 years Journeyman experience, and pass a 2-part test to get GC licensed. Engineers need a relevant college degree, min. 4 years experience, and pass 1 test to get PE licensed. Architects need a relevant college degree, min. 8 years experience tracked nationally by NCARB, and pass 5 tests to get licensed. Gee, who has the most (legal) responsibility here?
The way engineers and architects are represented in the first 2 minutes of this video is not correct. Architects and landscape architects are indeed responsible for technical aspects of the construction, not design only. Likewise, engineers are very important in the design process. The author of this video probably has no clue of what construction documents and technical specifications are, which are part of every serious construction projects.
