During the first show on 12/31/69 in New York, Jimi Hendrix did the entire show like this (overly extreme tricks and noises, etc...). Legend has it that prompted promoter Bill Graham to say to him between shows "Yeah, that was great JImi. How about going out there now and actually playing music."

Considering all of the exceptional live playing Ritchie has done over the past 45 years, it's a little bit disturbing that this footage would be titled in such a way as to invite ridicule from those who aren't familiar with just how brilliant this guitar player actually is. He has created more Original Music than anyone else in the Business never repeating himself. I just watched a Concert that he did late in Rainbow with Doogie White on vocals and Ritchie was absolutely amazing. Fast and clear. Every note so clean no matter how fast he played. And his touch has no equal. Absolutely outstanding. If people would take the time and educate themselves on Ritchie they would mesmerized by his talents.

@@96slavko This performance only represents one side of Blackmore. The side here is his "wild side." It doesn't rear its head often, but when it does, things get crazy. For example, at the end of the Deep Purple California Jam concert in 1974, he smashed three strats and blew up his amps.
The other side, the side I personally love about Blackmore, is his melodic, neoclassical style. It's evident from his guitar solos in "Burn" and "Highway Star." His neoclassical side became more evident with his next band, Rainbow. Without Ritchie, Yngwie Malmsteen wouldn't be the neoclassical metal shredder he is.

I saw him do this on this tour and walked out with a big question mark hanging over my head. Ritchie had heard that Trevor Rabin solo on Owner of a Lonely Heart (by the band YES) and was very impressed with it. Said it was the greatest solo he had ever heard.

You have to see the whole show, because it was stunning. Fresh, brutal and also they seemed to have very much fun on stage. Everybody is doing a very good job.
This part is taken out of Space Truckin'. And I think his job on it is better in Knebworth '85. But he is the one and only. And he is allowed to do so. Just watch the show from '72 Kopenhagen, also the Space Truckin' part. He is crazy, but that is good.

All the Big Black fans watching this 'get it'. Everyone else who's never flung a guitar against the wall, ripped at their strings, violently crushed a whammy bar, slid their strings against a monitor on stage, you're not gonna understand this. This is Cobain live and angry-type playing. This is Paul Leary energy.
Realize that a guitar is a hunk of wood with metal strings on it and it's powered by electricity. Swing it over your head like a rabid caveman who just discovered fire and beat it against the wall. Detune all your strings and play black tar noise

You try to understand the individual, you will 'hear' their emotion, they will communicate with you but you must 'listen' not compare !

However in 70's blackmore played some harmonies but that which he had been taught by John Lord. After that, for example in 80's his guitar was very poor and main rhytm of fuzz was played by Lord, blackmore only walked on the stage
