The reason why Germany has ~25,000 castles or fortresses is because in the Middle Ages, travel and trade were very dangerous.
There are fortified places or castles on the trade routes that can be reached within a day's walk.
Because traders and traveling nobles were not forced to spend the night in the wilderness.
The term “Torschlusspanik" comes from the same era.
The fear of arriving too late to get into the castle before the gate is closed in the evening.

When the historic region was split (map at 4:03 !!!), the western part became france and the eastern part now is a region in germany ...
It is always difficult (impossible) to properly assign exactly which historic or antique regions or peoples correspond/originated/etc to which ones nowadays.
Just have a look at british people being related to Angles and Saxons (anglesaxon), or Normannen, Normans, Normandy, etc.
Because of all that complicated history, and lots of splits and merges, wars and treaties, there once were the 300+ regions (map at 4:07).
I think that because of all those historic regional areas, most germans still today have mostly pride first in their local areas (and local rivalries)
and second in being europeans, but (especially after the world wars and all that other crap that happened) not necessarily in the entire country,
including which flags they show, and when/how often. have a look how often you can see the colors of bavaria (their flag being checkered blue and white)

There are only around 50,000 homeless people in Germany - most of them aren't german citizien. The others choosed to be homeless or are ill (addictive to alcohol, drugs, etc.).
It is almost impossible to become a german homeless person as the goverment will take care of you, pay your rent, health insurance, food, phone, etc.
If you have no work or can't work, you'll be payed and taken care of ... not much money, but enough to live!
There are much more homeless People this are only the one who are registered, and someone who had contact with this, you have your knowledge from media not from reality.

East Germany has developed very well

Castles needed to be protection hubs. For example in the 12th century the mongolian invasion would be spread way further if they were no or less castles in europe. Castles are build to hold on for a long long time. They got wells so deep that it seems impossible to build because no oxygen is gonna reach the ground while building so they had to come up with huge bulgs to transfer air into it to keep the well workers alive. Just another fun fact! :)

@@ralftolosa i wouldn't call it "worked perfectly" when one of the four wanted to starve the city by starting some kind of siege, making some obviously false excuses (like "construction works" that cut off ALL road and train connections at the same time !!!) and the airlift was the reaction of the other three to supply and save the town.
edit: yes, the air corridors worked, but only because they couldn't pretend to have construction works there, and also only after threats by the three allies to forcefully keep the air routes open.

I`d like to recomment "The European Union explaint" (bit older, about 6minutes long) or "The European Union - Summary on a Map" which includes history of EU, about 13 min long)

Regarding the election results in France, make no mistake that the far-right Rassemblement National had by far the best result in the popular vote in the second round at 37%, compared to Nouveau Front populaire at 26% and Ensemble at 25%.
The reason they only got third place in seat numbers is the first-past-the-post voting system that you should know from Canada, with NFP and Ensemble making deals not to compete against each other in the second round and gaming the system that way, uniting the votes towards the most likely winner against the far-right candidates in each constituency.

you should react to diversity within Gemrany´s Dialects more, - as a symbolic picture you can check out the Holy Roman Empire Map, its similar to that in dialects still today, with the difference that "High German" the dialect which was the Prussian dialect is known everywhere, because the prussians have been the keyrole in unifieing German countries and they made their language-way the official language for socuments.

As soon as there is a law or bill passed by the All-German parliament the individual laws or articles in the constitutions of the Länder have to be changed or cancelled.
... or are *automatically* invalidated. extreme example: some state still had the death penalty in its constitution until few decades ago because nobody cared to change or edit that when the german constitution took precedence 70+ years ago in saying in a very short paragraph "the death sentence is abolished".

Alright, here are "some" personal opinions, additions, updates and corrections. It's gotten longer than I thought, so if you don't like or have the time to read that much, fell free to skip that comment.
Our nine neighboring countries: I've been to seven of them. Somehow I'm not interested in Switzerland and Poland. And you're right, you're within a completely different culture by driving just a few hours. And you're also right that for EU countries, you don't need a passport. It's recommended, however, that you have your national ID card with you. I always have, but nobody ever wanted to see it.
Street lights: I still hate him for his bad chemistry. There is no such thing as SULPHUR vapor lighting, it's SODIUM vapor. Anyway, the old street lights are slowly getting replaced by the energy-efficient LEDs all around Germany.
Berlin-Tegel airport: Doesn't exist anymore. The two city airports Tegel (TXL) and Tempelhof (THF) don't exist anymore; Schönefeld (SXF) got integrated into the new big Berlin-Brandenburg airport (BER) as terminal 5. I miss TXL because it was so small and cosy and in the midst of the city, but I also can feel the relief of the people who don't have to worry anymore about planes flying over their roofs.
Castles: I wonder why everyone says Germany had "so many" castles. We only have around a meager 25,000. France has 45,000. Go to Wikipedia and enter "list of castles in France", that's MASSIVE!
Salami, alright, but to me, the Spanish Chorizo (also a type of Salami, but more spicy) tastes better. However, I wouldn't be a German if I didn't like Bratwurst. Everybody likes Bratwurst, and there even is a vegan version.
Beer: I live in Bavaria where there are many local breweries, and I buy my beer (and locally produced soft drinks) from one in my area, thus supporting the local economy and taking advantage of their free home delivery service.
Solar and wind power: Currently (2024) their growth has very much slowed down, mostly because the electric grid needs a few updates and extensions which lag behind to cope with the varying supply. Most important would be the major north-south line to deliver wind power to the south and solar power to the north. That line is under construction but regularly gets delayed for various reasons.
Population: has grown by another million since that video was made, with 50.6% being female. Quite balanced I'd say. Didn't check whether his information about ethnicity are still accurate, but there should only have been minor changes, so I regard them as correct.
15:56 and onward, his German spelling of some words is so wrong, why didn't he use spellcheck on them before publishing? The computer would have corrected that in no time.
The ß: Spelling reformers decreased its usage, that's correct, but that was a lame compromise. The original plan was to abolish it altogether, like the Swiss did back in 1974, and no German has a problem reading a Swiss newspaper.
The school system: It's actually more complicated than he describes, but usually parents get a "recommendation" as to what kind of school their child should visit. I got a recommendation for the Gymnasium, and passed flawlessly. For kids that show talents later, the school system allows for switching to higher education, and those who seemed promising but can't make it can "fall back" to a lower grade of education. And you are also given the chance of repeating a year if you didn't pass.
The music market: I'm really glad that it's so huge here in Germany because we always had the latest songs first while other countries had to wait. No publisher would have wanted to miss out on the German market, everyone just had to be there. Now, in times of the internet, that doesn't really matter, but when I was young it sure did.
Nazi items are illegal to own: He's incorrect again. You can OWN as much of that stuff as you want, and if you decorate your wall with a Nazi flag, that's all up to you. You just can't show Nazi symbols, wear Nazi uniforms, shout Nazi paroles, sing Nazi songs, or do the Hitler salute IN PUBLIC.
Charlemagne: "Charles the Great" in English, "Karl der Große" in German. He was king of the Franks, whose kingdom extended to many territories, including modern France which actually was named after the Franks. Search for the Song "Sacré Charlemagne" by France Gall (1964); it's here on the Tube.
The automotive industry and Japan: Yes, there used to be big rivalry, but inspiration, too. These days, with the switch to electric cars, there's rivalry with China, but I think in the long run that will lead to co-operations. It needs to because basically all of the big batteries for electric vehicles, and our solar panels, come from China, and what shall we do if they refuse to deliver?

Yes, I would be very interested about China. They are selling domestic produced Hybrid and Electrical Cars for around $ 18 000, meanwhile we are selling similar models for over $ 100 000.

What you don't understand is that the Chinese state subsidizes these cars enormously in order to force foreign competition out of the market. It's as simple as that! Once the others are beaten, they can easily recoup the money as the market-dominating country and also create dependencies. But that seems to be too much for you, a mini-economic strategist. A strategic move that every 5-year-old chess player understands, but you apparently don't... The Chinese are a hostile superpower, in case you haven't realized that yet...

Our Car Industry needs a lot of Electrical and other Energy to keep Productioncost low.
And than you add the Patronisation of the German Population plus the Industry to phase out Combustion engines by 2030. What the advancement of Hybrid and Electrical Energy concerns, Germany lost it's place as the leading Innovator. That's why this Industry is more or less closing down it's manufacturing Assets.

There are to strong, anti USA , anti EU and anti NATO movements on the rise, essentially one from the left, the BSW (Bündnis Sarah Wagenknecht) and from the right, the AFD (Alternative for Germany). They could form a majority in the former East Germany.
The Government of the Green , SPD and FDP parties, called the Ampel Koalition (Streetlight Coalition) have lost 40% of their public support. Rent has become unaffordable for many low income earners, ownership of an Appartment or a House, a distant dream. There is widespread homelessness, heating and foodinsecurity.
Up to 2 years ago support for the Ukraine War effort was by more than 60%, now it has dropped to less than 30%. People have become more war weary, and want military aid and financial aid to the Ukraine cut, to address more the growing domestic Problems. And that is not only happening in Germany.
Hungary, Serbia and Slovakia are in open Defiance to the EU and NATO. Victor Orban has a strong Europewide Conservative Movement to back up Peacetalks and more Trade with Russia.
Europe has completely changed during the last 2 years.
