This is an example, a bad day on a ranch or a farm. The rancher, or Farmer swoops in, and with a prayer does their best to help the mother and calf. He or she puts everything they have in that moment into those lives, even if failure is inevitable. When death happens, they turn to comfort and healing. Farming and ranching has never been just about money or meat. It's always been about life, and love. Hats off to Mike, a man who on the daily sacrifices for his family and his herd all while trying to educate the world on the struggle. Thank you for sharing Mike!
Mike-I watch & enjoy several farming channel but the way you present and tell the story is special. As a small cow/calf operator, I feel for the loss. I appreciate the time you spend editing and bringing us the content..I know you will have better luck with the others, as you take great care of your herd.
Lovely that you let her spend time with the baby to say goodbye. Absolutely love the compassion you showed that grieving momma. Thank you for your kindness ❤️.
It’s sad, but we know we have to be prepared for the lows and highs of caving. Hope mom's recovers with no problems. Thanks for sharing and God Bless. Hope the gate goes well.
Sad to loose a baby. Momma was worried!! You were very considerate. Glad you explained the importance of care for mommas ready to calve. In this case compassion for momma and respect for the dead calf.. Thanks for sharing your Wyoming Life!!
This is a great thing to share! It shows another side of ranch life. Even though I cried at times, having had 10 miscarriages, I am so glad you shared how you care for a cow who lost her baby. You also showed the care of the dead calf. Sorry this year has started out rough, I hope it only gets better from here. Thank you for all you do!
Thanks for providing a glimps into the highs and lows of ranching. Wish all the uninformed people who think that there is no care for the animals could see this, kind and dignified treatment from begining to end of life. Thanks Mike.
That's always tough to take, so many people don't understand the struggles involved with calving cows. Be we always keep trying to better every day....take care Mike.....
Difficult video subject and ranching situation. Both were handled here so very well. Thank you for sharing and taking such good care of both your family and your stock.
Don’t often comment, but good video. Shows the true side of farming/ranching. The care for each animal and their purpose. I’m a small time beef operation but it’s great for teaching a lot of life’s lessons to my kids. Keep the videos coming.
Sorry to hear about your 1st calf of the year Mike! Prayers going up for you & yours & your herd & calves Mike. May it be the only one you lose this year Mike!
Thank you so much for being so sensitive and respectful to both the calf and the poor momma cow. It was a sad video, but I love how you presented the facts.
So sorry you had a bad day on the ranch. Calving is always scary any thing can happen. So glad you let her be with her calf for a little while. So sorry this happened. We have had this happen several years ago.
Mike, sorry to see calf #1 born this way. Your explanation of the ranch life cycle is very educational for all. Good luck on your future calf crop. Twins may makeup the difference.
Aawww Mike - I’m so sorry to hear that. You and Erin are such wonderful stewards of your animals and your land. Hope Mama Cow feels better soon. Take care of yourselves and God Bless you all...
Mike, I love how you let her be with her calf for a few hours, that brought a tear to my eye. After losing several of my own animals over the years, that time w/ the deceased begins the healing process.
Awwww... I'm sorry your calving season started rough. Poor 41, she was a good mom, and led you right to her calf. Here's hoping this is the only bit of bad luck you have this year, and the rest of the calving season goes great! On a side note, I came across your videos quite a while ago, and I've enjoyed them all. You have such a great voice to narrate, and I truly do love listening to it, and learning from you. I grew up on a farm, and it's real interesting learning what life on a large ranch is about. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thank you for sharing that experience and for being so respectful of the life of the calf and the mother. There are no mistakes only lessons in life if you look at things the right way like you do.
Well Mike your not alone on this subject . We just had a backwards dead calf . The good part is I was able to get in there and get the back legs pulled backwards without damaging the cow. We were able to pull the calf out in one piece and the cow is recovering well. I guess the good part is the reason we love what we do. Take care guys happy calving.
So sad for the mama and those ranch members who love her. Hopefully winter will be over soon. I know over there had been some crap weather. I'm just over the border near Rapid City, SD. May all your future calving go well.
Mike.....check for leptospirosis.....If you have deer running thru there they can transmit it to your cows. Dad and I had that happen many years ago in Dakota. We had many good cows abort. Good luck, buddy. Nothing quite as sweet-smelling as a new calf on prairie hay in early spring....you're making me wish I was with you.
The stress during calving season is the worse we calves from Feb to may here in oklahoma and of course the needed rains come at the same time ugg so I know what your going thru mike thanks for video
Sorry for your difficult day, as you so perfectly stated farming is wrought with difficulties and filled with joy at the same time. It does mirror our daily lives. Sometimes it's one day at a time or even one hour at a time that you have to decide to continue to forge ahead. But the reward for your troubles and despair can be great and long lived. Good bless and forge ahead.
Loss is inevitable in Ranching or Farming. It none the less is hard on an animal and humans. Life of a family depends on life of our animals. People who have never had an opportunity to at least visit a ranch or farm. Or seen animals up close don't have a clue of the beauty and love we have for our animals. Or perceive the love an animal has for its offspring, they go through a mourning just as intense as we do. You have to love your animals to understand this. An animal is how we support not just our families but others as well. Each hamburger has started with a farmer or rancher who has raised this animal to nourish us all. You respect your animals Mike and it shows, so thank you for sharing this with the world! So sorry for your loss but babies are on there way and the circle goes on!👍💜
Been there, lost our first calf of the Fall 2019 season. It's heartbreaking all around. Luckily we ended up with all the rest healthy. Love your style of storytelling, no matter the subject. Keep up the good work
