Love the way your cat lets you know he’s coming.
My cat does this too 😊
"My wood expands and contracts with seasonal changes" would be a pretty cool t shirt
"my wood expands and contracts based on moisture"
Hell yeah 😂
LOL
I love that cat, he's a total daddy's boy! LOVE the build, as always!
I only come here for Dylan
A cat and his man...
Thank you
What a lucky day for sweet Dylan, 3 more "beds" for him to enjoy. I believe he said -It was about time I got something nice for my outdoor naps.
I love your beautiful cat! And your sofas are also very nice. Well done!
What a coincidence, “easy & cheap” was my nickname in High School. 😀
🤣
Dylan clearly approves! I think he's claiming them as perfect spots for sun-napping. Lovely design, great results.
Just got my plans off etsy and look forward to having a go at making it in the spring ready for the summer as my back garden is my workshop.
Awesome build Keith. Thanks for the plans. Love the way Dylan comes over to say hi on que! Such a little legend.
Thank you! Haha I'm glad I caught that on camera, he's getting louder as he gets older 🤣
@@RagnBoneBrown he S C R E A M !! What a precious little old man.
Wow Keith was Dylan wearing a mic, I’m sure his meow is rivalling your mitre saw 😂 great vid 👍
Christ, Dylan has got some lungs on him…
🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 67 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼
That's a hell of a savings, man!😳
Grouse build, they look quite comfy, and more importantly have Dylan's meow of approval! 👍🏽😆
Hi Keith great build , instead of the plastic door stop things I used cut up cheapy plastic chopping boards for the legs on my picnic benches , they made perfect barriers to stop moisture and to stop legs splitting . They really do extended the life of them . Another one is find a playground manufacturer and ask them for any small of cuts the the plastic they use as that comes in really funky colours and adds a little something extra . I do have some small bits if you want them as I’m not far from you
Recently built a sofa myself with pallet wood and used a full varnish finish and used rubber feet with a steel washer included, if you search " 4 x Rubber Cabinet Feet 38mm x 10mm c/w Steel Washers " on eBay you should find them, very happy with them but different sizes are available
Dillon sounded miffed you were breaking in the new seating without him!
👍Nice project. I’ve made a few various shaped and sized outdoor seating over the years. The savings are great.
A tip for anyone who may be interested. As an alternative to your ‘door stop feet’, I’ve have added about 20mm of epoxy resin to the bottoms of legs(make a well with tape and fill with the resin). No wood in contact with wet floors and it seems to withstand the inevitable dragging around the patio.😉
so nice to see Dylan again 🥰
The price of garden furniture is eye-watering. These look better than a lot of what's available and will no doubt last longer!
Really well designed and built .Thank you.
Really great looking outdoor furniture, I like the simple yet strong design! 👍
I always love a Dylan cameo. I like these, I need some outdoor furniture and these look nice for the space I have.
Sweet! Love the cat interactions. 😻
Great looking results. Not sure about PT wood. Hate working with it when not necessary. As far as I can tell it requires an oil based primer. Our experience with a similar project led us to find available cushions and size the furniture to the cushions. Still the most expensive part. Thanks for the video.
Nice looking benches, Keith. I enjoyed the explanation. You always explain your builds well.
Lovely looking Benches. A great addition to the garden 👌
Excellent video - very informative at each point. Thanks.
Your fast becoming a master-craftsman. I really appreciate your no nonsense approach to just about everything. Its funny though, even though outdoor furniture is so expensive, there's no way even a DIYer will pay pennies for materials needed. Keith, awesome job as usual.
Good Lad, Dillon!
They look very comfortable and of course are well made
Nice job on the outdoor garden sofas Keith! Thank you for sharing them with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Brilliant build and video... thanks!
These turned out great and look really nice. Nice work. Thanks
Ye gotta love Dylan. He was full of chat. "What did you make for me now" 😁
Good project, good video, good result. Well done Keith!
They look nice and comfy. Let's hope for a decent summer so they can get plenty of use. 👍
Great build I use felt roofing shingles on the bottom of my outside table cut to size of legs,It's also good for levelling up as well
Really solid design Keith, well done. Nice seeing you get creative on the channel
Great longes mate. Keep the videos coming.
Great job. Crazy how the cushions cost more than the rest of the bits. Thanks for posting. Happy relaxing!
I really like these Keith!!!
Thank you Henry
They look fab, a tip on the cushions/seat depth, have the cushions overhang the seat front edge by about 2cm so you don't get the rail in the back of your knees.
& The cushions are water resistant not water proof so don't leave them out in the rain
Not sure I understand the rail in the back of the knees comment to be honest, sitting on them now and the rails are nowhere near the back of my knees
what a wonderful idea.
Very nice build. Cheers.
Man...the next place we get has gotta have a garden! Just wish I knew someone who had a garden and 3 nice garden sofa's upon which to enjoy it ;) Nicely done mate.
Interesting video, me & the mrs have been talking about me making some outdoor furniture to go under our lean-to.
nice job. It is looks lovely and solid.
Nice job! I’m looking to make some outdoor chairs and I guess this design without the centre piece and reduced in width appropriately would work.
Nice design Keith 👍they look great and your cat approves too 👍😀
😁 Nicely done Keith. Hope your going to make a matching one "Dylan sized" 😂🤣. They look great. Nice job 😁👍
A good way to protect the legs from soaking up moisture is to coat the end grain with epoxy resin, just use masking tape around the bottom but leave it proud by around 3 to 4 mm causing a damn for the epoxy to sit in whilst it hardens. Great project mate.
I've seen the wood whisperer do that. It's a good trick
Really nice Keith. Your cat appreciates them too lol great video mate
They came out very nice, and the can gave a thumbs up as well…😊
Thank you very much :-)
Belo projeto amigo , abraços aqui do Brasil!
Great vid and very nice looking furniture. Always like to see value for money...
Nice one, Dylan. 😊😉👏🏼
He's getting noisier the older he gets!
The build was interesting, but Dylan was the scene-stealer... :)
I’m just about to make something similar and have been taking photos of park benches.
Cool cat! 😎
Good job!
40 odd quid before the cushions is pretty good really. And you can buy foam and fabric on Amazon to make your own cushions too
Great video and nice garden seating.. and i thought it was just me with sketch up.. I always seem to end up with a pen and paper in the end. Much quicker. (Although it’s only me who understands my plans)
UV damage from the sun in the UK, didn't know this was a comedy channel now ;-)
Came for the sofa build, stayed for the cat 😄nice job bud!!
Great work Keith, you are definitely a much better painter/strainer than I am! I will have made a mess under that project trying to paint it with no drop cloths!
Thanks for sharing that,
DC
I made a mess, but we're going to be taking the floor up soon!
@@RagnBoneBrown ahhh, now I don’t feel so bad about my messy painting skills!
Thank you
Should do a follow up video by making an outdoor sofa swing👍
Great video again keith will definitely have to give making one a go hopefully have the summer for it. I also came across a new Irish woodworker on youtube by name eire workshop have you seen it he is very knowledgeable
Great project. In the past for a similar project for the feet I used pound land plastic chopping boards. Cut them smaller than the wood so you can't see them, then some PU glue and a couple of brad nails to hold it in place.
Great idea! So do you use the same glue as in the video?
@@blackbulldog4897 yes I did. You can get it from Toolstation.
@@avory321 brill, thanks
Looks very nice, and possibly something to offer as a commission piece via your Etsy shop, sure some others would love it and it's probably better built than the other offerings at £1000 you mentioned. Maybe they are using better wood for it than construction lumber though when I consider it further.
As always, enjoyed and inspired.
Cheers Craig. I think the shipping side of things would be a huge PITA but it's a good idea
Keeping wood off the ground is the key part I think. When I built my workshop the wooden walls are on concrete blocks with a damp proof course for just that reason.
I can't remember where at the moment, (I think maybe the @WoodWhisperer was one) but I've seen two recent videos where people have used tape around the end of the legs, extending past the ends, to form a casting form of sorts that they then fill with epoxy. This gives them solid moisture-resistant feet for the legs.
Nice job, I might give it a go , as you said the commercially available versions are extremely expensive or very poorly made and flimsy, as I don’t have a bench saw I’ll have to make some adjustments to make it easier for me.
for the bottom of the feet, you can put a thin layer of epoxy. works great for outdoor furniture
The feet - I looked at the door-stop idea for an outdoor table I've just made (using the granite sink cut out from our new kitchen worktops - with the edges polished by the sypplier - and a recycled timber frame) - but decided to buy some of the plastic buffers that are part of the headboard fittings on most beds . .. drilling the legs and fitting threaded inserts to fix the plastic discs (about 15mm thick so enough to keep the legs clear of surface water)
Great idea
Haha good lad I was just thinking of something like this

Was very confused When I originally saw a similar case of a video from 6 hours ago, having comments from 3 days ago, then I found out about members videos and it all made sense again. Happy there is extra benefit you can offer.
Great video. I was thinking for extra safety to apply epoxy to the end grain of the legs. Then use the stoppers. They look great!
Yeah I've seen the wood whisperer do that, looks a good solution
I’m going to be trying out some £50 B&M wooden benches soon. They come in a flat box so I assume you have to assemble urself. Apparently their made from responsibly sourced hardwood (I think it’s called Shorea wood - Philippines cheap version of teak). Anyways I’ll let you know how they are…
Dear Keith, please include more of your lovely cat in future videos. Sincerely, everyone
Great video thanks - I’ll be purchasing the plans from Etsy!
A few questions though, what type of wood preserver are you using? And do you think it would be ok to build a longer sofa with same design? Closer to a 3 seater in size? I presume will need an additional set of legs in the middle to support? Thanks in advance.
Nice build, very trendy looking with the contrasting paint/cussion colours. Rubber doorstops would be better, plastic will go brittle in sun & frost
I see they received the Dylan stamp of approval 😂 Though I think you forgot to factor in the cat expenses in the cost breakdown 🤔
I love cheap and easy!!
Fantastic job !! I see a nice relaxing summer time barbecue for you two
If it's going to be finished with a good quality exterior grade paint, and repainted yearly, I'm not sure there's much value in spending the extra for treated timber? Just a thought. Super design.
Look great Keith - what paint did you use (Screwfix no no-nonsense) and what's the wood preservative you used. Cheers
Thanks Paul. The paint is just called garden paint I think. The preserver is sika clear treatment
Those plastic doorstops as feet may well fail over time. I don't think the cheaper ones are UV stabilised and I prefer the rubber versions. I have also used walking stick rubber ends that fit over a dowel that is fitted into the end of the leg. A very nice build!
Cool shades
... ;-)
Cheers Tim!
How do you find sketchup, it seems super tricky
I'm just making one of these after downloading your plans, really enjoying it so far. One question, regarding how long to leave the wood to dry out after adding the treatment, what is a sensible moisture content to aim for before applying the final paint treatment ?
I would aim for below 15%
Great thanks. Finished building it today. Really pleased how sturdy it feels. Next time I can afford some more timber I will be making. A second one to go with it. Cheers.
Hi Keith 🙂
Please could I ask where you got your track and flip stop for the mitre saw? I've been looking for something for a while, and this looks ideal! Love the build, I'm sure lots of people will have a go at this, especially with the inflated cost of garden furniture this year! Many thanks, Craig
Cheers Craig. If you check out my mitre saw station videos you should find the detail you need there
@@RagnBoneBrown brilliant, thank you Keith - I'll have a look 🙂
Top work Keith, they look great !!
Great project,All set to build and the cushions have gone up too £90 a bench,It's a shame because I would of thought they would of got a lot of traffic from your build,Great project and welldone for getting in at the cheaper price
That is a shame, the greed of these companies is beyond belief.... Makes me really angry actually
I'm curious to why you bury the screw way into the wood. Will this not make an unnecessary opening into the wood? Glad you painted the sofa. Wouldn't want anyone sitting with their skin touching all that pressure treated wood 😇
I'd just rather not see the screw heads personally. I don't think modern pressure treated timber is harmful to the skin once the wood is dry anyway
Yup. Modern pressure treated wood is done with a copper based solution which is no worse for you than having pennies in your pocket
If the wood is pressure treated, the treatment goes right to the middle of the wood. The green colour is just there to identify it as treated.
Hmmm I'm not sure about that personally
@@RagnBoneBrown In pressure treated timber, it is vacuumed to remove the air, then the preservative is added. The colourant is added to distinguish it from non treated timber.
Dylan huuuuman huuuuman what are you doing in my domain , say sorry now , I mean NOW 😂
Nice video 3:00 4:00
You know what makes great material for cushion covers..
Old tents!
Your welcome.
Great idea
@@RagnBoneBrown the other thing we've done before is fabrisoled any tight weaved fabric to get an ok level of waterproofing.
But yeah tents and old gazebo's are great as you can get some large sheets out of them.
Looks nice. Odd question coming. I know you are one the other side of the pond (it's all perspective), do you think it would have cost what you paid pre-Covid?
I'm not sure to be honest, I can't recall ever buying treated 3x2s before
That sofa has dylan's seal of aproval
He's been asleep on it all day today
Just curious, - why do you have a 12v impact driver and a 18v drill?
I have both 12v and 18v drills and drivers
