One thing which helps me is having music playing when shooting the reference, if you need to convey an emotion well while not really feeling it, this is a great way to feel it on command.
*Goes to make that video* *Realizes I never make any new friends either* Haha but really, social media. IG and Twitter are great for making animation friends. Twitch is great too!
I did martial arts for quite some time and you know how mechanics of kicks and punches work when you did it for many hours. Also you can always go to sport club that does something like sword fighting and ask them, they have gear, they fight for real you will get amazing reference and explanation what is going on.
Hah that's funny! These days I've been looking for back flip ref for animation and I found one of your parkour videos. So I plugged it in Maya and started animating on that!
As a new twitch regular (scarred ace on twitch haha) i can assure you guys, you really are missing out! 😂 Sir wade talks about a lot of really cool tips and tricks there that I've never heard anywhere else and wouldn't think to do (for example to use primitives as sfx, that was totally awesome) so come join the twitch fam! 🔥
The motion blur is not due to the frame per second but it’s due to shutter speed. So you can still record in 24 fps but you will need a higher shutter speed to get a sharp image.
Just a side note: if your device allows you to change the camera shutter speed manually, you don't need to use 60fps to get less motion blur, just crank the shutter up to 1/100 or 1/250
@@pschelp3605 higher fps also requires the use of a faster shutter (that's just how videos works), so if your phone doesn't allow you to change the shutter manually, increasing the fps can achieve the same "motion blur reduction" effect. if your phone doesn't support 60 fps but has slow-motion, then use the slow motion. also, sometimes phones doesn't support 60 fps at 4k but do support it in Full HD - try different resolutions.
Oh that's a good idea about the mirror idea vs 2 cameras hmmn I think I'll add a mirror in my garage to shoot some ref lots of good info here thanks Darrel C
Great stuff in this video, Sir! Thanks for continuing to put these out! And nice call out on the Pratt Bros! Another fantastic Twitch Animation stream!
hey wade, here's an idea for a video - my contention with rogue 1's digital humans is that they didn't use performance capture enough. the reason why it looks fake and "off" is because you can see ANIMATION. you can see the effects of keyframe animators exercising their craft which is STYLIZED... and that's why the character faces look fake. it's not the modeling. it's not the textures. I've seen renders and they look solid. it's the animation. and maybe use an animator's eye to distinguish between how thing really move and how animators make things move... because while animation is informed by reality it is NOT reality. there is exaggeration and caricature and stylization that simplifies and clarifies in a way reality does not. and you can compare to thanos which looked terrific and much more "real" than tarkin or leia.
I love going to Tempest! I think it's awesome that you actually have a first-hand handle on something like parkour to help you with your animation because it's something I've struggled with for the past few years now (whether or not I want to pursue a career in animation or in something fitness related). I know I'm just some rando in your comment section, but if you ever need a +1 to go to Tempest with you for mechanics and stuff I'd be stoked to!
@0:48 now I see . if I want to be good animator I have to be in good fitness for jump good tutorial . thnaks . but I hope to tell where to get this action footage to use as reference
That's called mocap! Which is another great tool, but some people don't recognize that you still need to 'plus' the work and add more exaggeration, appeal, and timing to the data :)
Just want to let you know the framerate has nothing to do with motionblur, it's 100% to do with the shutterspeed. ie. more light, faster shutter, less blur.
Hi. Please make a video for how to adjust weights on the humanoid rigs (e.g. make them fat if they are lean or vice versa). Also, how do we change them clothing. Undress them and create new clothes
Quick question! What if you are doing a crazy OTT anime style super hero move, where there is no reference for! Like he flips twice, then triple kicks and then lands! I have been editing together/blending clips of various gymnasts/martial artists in AE then using that as a guideline! Would animators do similar techniques please? Or is it a case of what works for the individual? Is it normal to 'bash' together various clips to get what you want? Thanks for any info!
Hi, I studied programming and now very good at Android. I have good ideas but no skills in drawing, so I'm very frustrated about converting my ideas to nice apps. I spent all this day trying to solve my problem but no helpful answer until I found your channel which gives me hope. Can you kindly advise me which the best program is suitable for making Android apps for those who have no drawing skills? Much thanks
So I need a reliable camera, location and people to act the scenes out. Okay, great! ... Just need to find a location in the video and some trust worthy people...
Good day, Have you thought about breaking down the Tournament of Champions video? (Rainbow Six Siege Invitational trailer, it has nice animations and renderings)
Great video! Do you have any advice about animating King Kong/Godzilla/Cloverfield monster-sized creatures? We imagine them being very slow-moving, and you'd guess their movements, reflexes and reactions would be somewhat slower if only because of the longer distance down the nerves, but is there a physical rule about this?
I feel that struggle. For realistic shots, reference is going to help a ton. For more cartoony, it may give you ideas of what parts of the body to focus on, if you need to add breathing or eye darts or something

For shooting references with props I would recommend to use items that are HEAVIER than the actual prop. It will help to read weight way better.
So what you're saying is I should hit my friend with the fullest force of the sword to get the full effect. They'll understand it's for the animation
Great clip!
Thank you! :)

problem with twitch is time... when americans start to stream I'm usually going to bed or sleeping
@@morbid1. ah i see, same as me though i live in asia. But, he streams 3 times a week so you can see which day and time works best for you :)

is that for slow motion?
