On paper alkaline may be 1.5-1.6v. But in reality they immediate drop to under 1.2v under this type of load. I don’t imagine this light will last long on 8 cells. I’m surprised it didn’t insta-flash. Must have some high resistance in the switch
Ni-mh fresh off the charger are 1.4V. I blew a 3.6V Krypton bulb with 4x Eneloops which I thought was weird at first considering 4.8V is not far from 3x Fresh Alkalines which are 1.6V.

With lifepo4, they do charge to 3.6v. But they immediately drop to around 3.35v after charging stops. Could this be what you’re seeing?

Is it brighter with nimh battery than alkaline
