Yeah I had no idea it was this bad until I read an article that breakdowns the economy of the annual sports games and it turns out the majority of people not only pre order the game, but most people actually buy premium editions that are like $100, it's crazy.

I still remember how hyped I was for F1 2010 and playing it for the first time feeling like a kid again playing an official F1 game on console (I never had a PS3) so its a shame to see the state of the franchise now. Features removed, older games delisted. It just seems like the passions gone. I can only hope that Codemasters/EA lose exclusivity in the future in the same way EA lost exclusivity for Star Wars and FIFA. I don't want codies to stop making F1 games but I just want other studios to take a crack at it like how in the 90s/2000s we had the hardcore sims from Geoff Crammond and the arcade F1 games from Psygnosis and ironically, EA.

If there's *ever* a game that warranted going live service, it's F1. Iterative updates year over year with no fundamental changes is the perfect candidate.....so long as EA wasn't in charge. Charge me for the base F1 experience, give me seasonal updates. I can almost 1000000% guarantee you that they are not re-scanning tracks every year. EA sports subscriptions generally restrict the number of ours for new game titles. Plus, if you cancel and it is just one day after they charge you, you will NOT get your money back. When you cancel, it will stop at the end of the month.
My general rule for annually produced games is to buy them bi-annually. It also depends on how often you play the game.

depends on the player, 1st group settled (mid to high tier equipment) f1 simracers will surely buy, 2nd group casual players (low tier or gamepad equipment) will wait for sale, and lastly the 3rd group newcomers (controller to keyboard users) will try and like then elevate the following year or try and shelve will touch the game again after a year or two. It would be great to see a third party come in and make a new F1 style game, even if they didn't have any of the copyrights. There's a sizable appetite within the racing community for an F1 style game with more depth and a better engine (no pun intended).

I think it's a common misconception that the gap between F1 23 and F1 24 is 10 months but in reality that's not the case. F1 23 came out on 16th June 2023 and F1 24 is out on 31st May 2024. It's just short of 1 year by 2 weeks.
This is the first F1 game since F1 2014 that I won't be getting on launch. The differences aren't enough. As you rightly put, wait for a discount when the game will be complete. It's £70 on PS5 & Xbox! They need to drop last gen in these games so they can improve the game engine. It's a sad state of affairs that shareholders are dictating how games are made now. They just want a quick profit but in the long run it's damaging the franchise.

From 2018-2022, I bought the F1 games at release, always the 'champions'/complete edition, and often preordered. But over the past few years, the games got noticeably worse, the handling in '22 was horrible, and there haven't been any historic cars (or tracks) for years. I eventually bought '23 several months after release at a sizeable discount, and I imagine I'll do the same for '24, if I even ever buy it at all.
Their greed, lack of innovation (worse than 'lack of' tbh, they remove content and features, it's the opposite of innovation), and increasingly poor value for money has completely killed my interest in the franchise. The complete editions of the older games at least came with worthwhile additional content in the form of certain classic cars... what premium desirable content does F1 24 offer, 'VIP Rewards' and PitCoin? Hard pass.

The price for F1 24 is fair due to the amount of staff working on the game, the high end technologies being used and produced such as the F1 car model, driver models and facial scanning's. Not only that but also the services being provided towards these companies such as Internet, electricity, potential IT companies, Microsoft account licensing, and many, many more. Also the rise of percentage income. Steam makes 30% for each consumer purchase. This means to keep on track with the company's benefits, they would have to bump up the price by $10 or so and add extra for additional editions. Don't jump to conclusions thinking (This game has good graphics but poor content) and this is the stuff you're getting because F1 seasons only happens once a year, and to keep on track with the new seasons, developers need to build new games from recycled content to make it easier for the dev's to add more content. Otherwise, the community might as well wait for another 3 or 4 years to really get the quality content needed, but that isn't the real world, the community want's to play the newest game to feel immersed within the current season, and I am one of those. But try and give them credit on what they have within a year.

Your argument for why it is overpriced is either inconsistent or ideologically not aligned with the reality of how the gaming industry works. Would it make you feel better if their sports games were advertised as a live service with a mandatory subscription and "micro"transactions? Does that sound familiar? It's similar (read as, nearly identical) to iRacing. While I disagree with how much money is made off of gamers (specifically sports gamers) for often subpar products, that is the justification for our hobby and no major studio is innocent in this. A sweeping change of how games are monetized is not going to begin in racing games and certainly shouldn't be led by someone whose job it is (and will continue to be) to perpetuate this business model.
This isn't a defense of EA Sports, the gaming industry's monetization model, or live service games. Making a blanket statement that anyone that disagrees with you is defending a scummy, greedy business does not change the fact that you are wrong or being unrealistic. This is like fighting the rise in the cost of eggs by pushing for them to be sold individually instead of by the dozen. And also you've bought more dozens of eggs than 99% of the human population.

Right now I am playing Assetto Corsa a lot. As a full-time student I don't have that much time so iRacing isn't the best option for me

I still remember f1 2020 being sold at 55 euros on steam d1... now 70 wp EA. 80 euros on consoles... 80 euros for an annual game? They also delist all previously f1 games to force you to buy the last 2... they just delisted f1 22 with the start of f1 24 preorder phase. Also the last year f1 game will never go on sale so if you want f1 23 (maybe you want to play the story mode idk) you will have to pay full price. Sales of the f1 games are dropping showing that this tactic is stupid but EA doesn't care.

I guess like all the sports gambling venues, EA Sports knows how addicted humans are. They'll pay up for their "fix". Is this a better model, or is pay to win, free to play a better model? I dunno. They both have their pros and cons.

I wont be paying for it, its very expensive against other competition and its even worse in the online part with no race craft. £50 should be max just for the championship edition but EA are keen to rip off everyone and hopefully numbers drop to show their disliking to the pricing.

For me, this practice can only be destroyed by players actively boycotting these prices. Same goes for Star Wars Outlaws, as I own every single SW game on Steam, however I am not buying this one with this unrealistic price.

This is why you don't pay full price for these games, you wait untill they either go on sale down the road or get added to either GamePass or given away as part of the free monthly games for Playstation. I haven't purchased an F1 game for years now, and year after year I still manage to play n enjoy these games down the road. Unless you really want to play these games right away, then there is a 'premium price' for that, just like going to the movies or watching it later on TV or Netflix or whatever.

I use a sim called Race 07 released in 2000 to 2010 on Steam. It is based on touring cars with upgrade packs allowing you to run GT and F1 cars. You can run a championship in a RR1 car that is a old F1 from 20010. Back when you had V10's and i have mods off Race department website mods for F1 tracks and cars. (I don't recommend F1 cars as talent files make bad drivers run well and makes it harder to beat them. The Generic cars have fictitious names so it is more of a fantasy season. There are some famous names in GT cars. And it is simple to setup unlike my Rfactor 2 that makes it hard to calibrate season. Simple menu and you click on track's you want to run. It is that simple. Lots of mods official and unofficial to make it more fun. As for Codemasters i cant stand there games that i have run and i prefer Race 07. Older is simpler and better. I hate codmasters stupid animations and Arcade stile UI and how it gives penalties for track limits. Its like F1 1992 by Microprose just plug and play with better graphics.

I bought F1-2017 for about $5 whilst it was on sale. When F1-22 came out I bought it. The when F1-23 came out I waited a bit until it was in sale ariund December. Here's my 2 cents on these games, well they're just recycling the same game and it's not worth to buy a new game every year. You can get the new cars via mods. I'm going to wait maybe 2 or 3 years until I buy the new release.

  • @soccersensation

They probably keep the same pricing structure for persons "new" to the game. I actually give them credit for discounting owners of the pervious games, something they didn't have to do. Personally, I don't buy F1 every year. I purchased F1 23 and will skip F1 24. Back in the day, I use to buy every Fifa, COD, Assassin's Creed etc. Then I eventually realized it wasn't worth it. Maybe if the discount for owning the previous game was more, I would consider it.

In terms of console we have been badly let down over the last decade in my opinion, i browse the ps store occasionally as well as the nintendo store for switch. The amount of games available is no joke its a crazy amount, what we havent had in last 10 years is any boxing games, football managing games or an alternative to F1 games, its shocking even fifa/EA have got away with murder because of the lack of competition. I have bought F1 on release for last 15 years, i wont buy this one but the point is there is no alternative on console so eventually will probably submit to it because thats what i enjoy, been skeptical about any purchase ever since bf2042 what a shambles that was. 😢

The F1 games have stagnated since 2020 now. What I sometimes do is get one month of EA Play, play through the career until I'm bored and then stop the subscription. The online experience is terrible compared to iRacing anyway, so it's not worth keeping for longer than a month. I get why they release yearly though, these games live off of the yearly hype that their content creators build for them, kids and teenagers will never question this, their parents will buy it and that's it.

The iRacing comparison is especially interesting. A 1 year sub there is normally 110 USD, but take 25% off that if you buy during Black Friday (as most people do, because the Black Friday sale is common knowledge) + tax, and you are looking at around 100 USD/year, depending on the VAT where you live. And 100 USD is almost exactly 80 GBP. So the asking price of EA for the premium edition is almost exactly the same as iRacing, the sim with the reputation for being expensive.

Is anybody really surprised the downgrade in quality since EA bought Codemasters? The games are stale and are minor updates with each new release at best. • @virtualawakening2299
      @virtualawakening2299 3 дня назад

Basically who is in what team. Drivers get fired and hired and switch teams and such. And maybe a manufacturer or team gains an advantage over others. If you're like me, and "Who cares? How does that affect how I drive?" then you don't need to get the new game until they make real physics changes. But if it's EA Sports, it will always lean towards the arcade and away from hardcore sim racing. So it's basically about balancing the power to each manufacturer in the current season and having the correct names in each team for that year, if that matters to you. They do smoke and screens to try and fool you into believing there some kind of revolutionary change when the tracks are 3 or more years outdated...

The deeper reason for this is that the higher ups don’t want you to own anything eventually so they’re punishing you by making you spend obscene amounts of money to own the game. Ubisoft CEO said gamers need to get used to not owning games and now Star Wars Outlaws is the most expensive game in history I believe. This is their way of moving you away from private property and ownership. You can still own but you’re gonna pay a ridiculous amount and feel like an idiot.

Companies like EA think their products has inelastic demand to the extent that the traditional market pricing rules do not apply to them. Be strong and collectively teach them a lesson in this and humble their ass. Otherwise keep being ripped off year in year out because that’s the alternative. There’s no in between.
