This demo really shows why people crave this era of Martins. Lemmo did a magnificent job of showing all of the colors this D28 has to offer. Brilliant!
Something old (1944 D28), something new (Lemmo’s haircut), something borrowed (every Guitar of the Day demoed), something….green? (a fair amount of Michael’s wardrobe). I couldn’t make the whole proverb work but 3 out of 4 ain’t bad. Lemmo and Guitar of the Day: a perfect marriage of beautiful instruments and inspirational playing!
That's one amazing sounding guitar. Wow! A looker to. Man, envy the individual who ends up with this amazing instrument. Beautiful playing Mr Lemmo. Nothing this man isn't able to play. Keep up the great shows.
I had a chance to talk with 'Trey' (C.F. Martin III) about what Martin did during WWII. This guitar is extra rare - in 1944, because of their superior woodworking skills, Martin was chosen to make the glider wings for the D-Day invasion of Europe. There ... you learned something unusual.
Lemmo and Brandon are such a good combo. I've really learned a lot about guitars from the both of you. Thanks for what you guys do; the fact that all of this is free is hard to believe. Again - thank you guys. I had to double check that this wasn't a reissue when you first opened the case. What a beauty.
Always a pleasure to hear super old acoustics. Guitar sounds as great as it looks. Always inspiring to go grab a guitar and work on something after flat top Fridays.
Wow! That was a real treat. Sounds amazing. Great playing by Michael to bring out the best in that D28. With one week to my open heart surgery, I hope to hear more demo’s from Lemmo in the future. Thanks.
Like the haircut! Like the sound of that guitar! Awesome! My dad built guitars before he passed. He always was comparing to the Martin, whether it was the wood or the construction...Nice job everyone!
The Wizard can even make an antique sound so modern. Thanks guys for sharing, including our camera Wizard Jen. Would appreciate a Norm T shirt. Love and blessings from Kruger Park in South Africa.🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Awesome! THE best sounding acoustic guitar ever showcased on Norm’s. Most vintage martins sound very dull but this one is perfect. I think I will close another mortgage with my bank to buy this one 🤪🤪
Love Lemmo. REALLY love Jen. But Brandon is my favourite. He’s NRG’s version of Keith Williams and each time he appears it’s a five minute version of five watt world. Never tire of the history of these vintage guitars. Brandon… you are a legend.
This has to be my favorite #FlatTopFriday!! That Martin sounded great and looks as good. Not to mention that the new hair cut Lemmo is fantastic. I say you are ready for the Grammy’s..
Yepp...that ones got it. One of a kind. Sounds amazing. The ever elusive mojo manifest itself once again on this one. Many of Normans Rare Guitars have the mojo. If you don't know what the mojo is...you haven't heard enough guitars yet....Keep on listening you will be able to soon.👍💯✅✌
Back then they had more old growth red spruce with tight grain. You see a lot of wide grain red spruce today because the trees are younger. So just because it has tight grain doesn't necessarily mean it's sitka, especially on a pre-50's Martin.
Great !!! War years D-28. amazing. Hair cut, sometimes, its time. Shoulder length twice in the '70's (once, some trouble, next, a job).'Bit grey but all here. Play on !
Minor detail, the back and sides are Brazilian rosewood, not just rosewood. Love you guys anyway. Pretty decent guitar, though it's a bit old. Powerful, clear, big round sound. I can offer Norm $1,200. My wife agrees that I can buy it. What an understanding partner she is.
Wow! It sounds amazing! I'm not sure if I'd be qualified enough for comparing it with the J200, but how would you do that? Thanks and stay safe! Cheers!
Martin didn’t switch from red spruce (commonly called Adirondack) to Sitka until part way into 1945. That guitar has a red spruce top, as all 1944 Martins with their original tops do. That isn’t a small detail on which to be misinformed.
Hugo coming at you live from Hollywood!! Have Norman send some of those good vibes filling that room to Charlotte…we’ll need it for the playoffs 🏀 🗑 Just a suggestion, but that D-28 should have enough good juju to see us through. Also, Hugo and I became golf buddies after realizing we were dating the same girl, so feel free have it shipped to me and I’ll make sure it gets into the right hands. No hard feelings if you can’t… I know you have the “Lakers” and it might make things weird, but any extra swag the shop has laying around would be shared and absolutely appreciated 🤷🏻♂️. You guys are something special…hope to get out there soon!!
Maybe I need to listen to a pre-war Martin in person (I get this is a '44), but I honestly don't get the hype other than the fact that it's almost a 100-yo instrument. Does that make it a collectible? You bet. But it's because it's vintage, not because of the tone. Regardless, it's a gorgeous instrument. I own a 2007 Martin HD-28 and love it.

Brandon knows his guitars man. So informative and really cool stuff to learn.
Y’all are probably tired of hearing this, but, there’s something special about flat top Friday’s. What a beast of a guitar!
And so impressed with Lemmo’s acoustic chops; just downloaded his new LP on iTunes and can’t wait to listen.

Yes, Brandon is the champ of guitar introductions!
That may be the best acoustic guitar that I ever heard. I want it!
It’s not only an amazing guitar but Lemmo you played it so evenly the guitar sounds so smooth in tone ❤️ I love Martins 👍🏻☮️🎸🌹
Awesome! THE best sounding acoustic guitar ever showcased on Norm’s. Most vintage martins sound very dull but this one is perfect. I think I will close another mortgage with my bank to buy this one 🤪🤪
Damn! I live for FTFs. Look forward to it every week! And then… you pull magic out of the vault and just jolt the senses! THANK YOU!!
The guitar sounds like it needs to be in a museum. Michael always brings out the best that the instrument has to offer.
No bro, It should be played till it dies ,like Trigger. but I recognize what your feeling are .you know a good axe.
This is why I *LOVE* GOTD!! Beautiful guitar beautifully played and holy cow that guitar sounds AMAZING!!!!
We love you Lemmo ! ✌️🇨🇦
Man, what a sweet guitar! Would love to hear some flat picking on that old D-28.
Amazing! A Herringbone D28! The Holy Grail of Dreadnaughts!
That was so good I watched it three times immediately!
Love Lemmo. REALLY love Jen. But Brandon is my favourite. He’s NRG’s version of Keith Williams and each time he appears it’s a five minute version of five watt world. Never tire of the history of these vintage guitars. Brandon… you are a legend.
Wow that is one amazing Martin, so soothingly smooth and a full bodied sound.
Wow great sounding Martin and a super Lemo demo thanks for sharing !!
Great guitar and great hair cut
Martin guitars, well that one for sure, have a sound that to me says songs are just waiting be discovered with them. Just fantastic tone.
Oh. My. God. That guitar sounds incredible!!!!!!
It might help that you mention its Brazilian Rosewood. The most coveted tone wood in acoustic guitars. Big sound. Great for flat picking.
This has to be my favorite #FlatTopFriday!! That Martin sounded great and looks as good. Not to mention that the new hair cut Lemmo is fantastic. I say you are ready for the Grammy’s..
Oh Yea that git. Is something else truly a fine example of Martin's finest.... luv those chords..... thanks 😊 Mike G☆
Lookin' SHARP!!!! :o)) Great playing today. Thank you for sharing this awesome old rig! Norm's Rocks--You Rock! Have a great weekend.
Awesome playing on that fine guitar 🎸👍🇳🇴😀 cheers From 🇳🇴🤟
Rich and beautiful sound. Give me that guitar!

Mesmerising.
Superb old 28.sounds great
Great demo Mike, even greater guitar. That ones gonna go quick 👍
What a rich and full sound. Miss the hair Lemmo!
The only bad thing about this video is that it ended what a great sound and playing thanks guys👍🤙
That and the ad in middle.
Wow.... resonance for days....
Martin did use old growth Adirondack, (or Red) Spruce which had tighter grain than Sitka Spruce. and didn't transition to Sitka until 1945.
I think the guitars in the cases were loving that Martin too. And Michael most beautiful playing. Lovely. )
Wow really great tone and balance between bass and treble clear not muddy wish I could afford it
Beautiful job with this one, Mike.
Loved the sound of that haircut!

Outstanding!😎
Wow best sounding martin I ever heard.
Wow! Killer! Thank you for sharing!
I have a great Martin guitar but I’ve always wanted the ‘bluegrass’ D-28. Especially one of the old ones. My sister has one.
I wonder if Norman has a 1969 - 1971 electric acoustic Les Paul in his storeroom? That would be cool to see!
Cheers!
Sounds so good!!
My dream guitar. Nice demo Michael.
Oh Yeah!🎵🎶🎵
I was just there. Only got to walk around because I didn’t make an appointment. Still was great to talk to Norm and see the others.
I love old Martins.
Well.....if I ever win the lottery I know what my first extravagant purchase is going to be.
A real gem
👍✌❤😎
Mikey got a haircut. Lol looking good buddy, love that Martin guitar, real good sound.
Beautiful 44’

What a freakin balanced sound !!!!!! That thing is a cannon !!!!!!!!!!
Wonderful tone...
this martin is very special
Wow 👏 👌
Martins are no 1
everything else is just a copy... Martin should sue Gibson.... lol

A SURE SHOT MARTIN BEAUTY HERE
WOWIE MANG! THAT'S A GUITAR
WHEN WOOD, METAL & WIRE = ART
MARTIN OF THE DAY
CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
Guitar of the day? More like guitar of the century!
About time you got that hair cut, young man.😉
As for the sound of that Martin..... Yikes!!👍👍
Please play some picking on this jewel d28. Rag time, delta blues, menphis, Chicago..
🤤 sonically beautiful
Great video as usual !!
I don't think the herringbone is "binding." Correct me if I'm wrong.
Remember when I said that Red es-335 was my all time favorite guitars, yeah I lied 🤥
Ha Michael
You Have Ears ! WOW 😳
Cheer up lemmo !
I usually skip FTF, but that was that guitar sounds beautiful
New haircut new album what’s next Bath & Shave (just kidding) Always does a great job.😎
Where is Michael?

rings like a bell, it rings just like a bell
Just curious; is that a pre-war or post-war Martin? Never heard of a war Martin.
What strings did they put on it?
I wonder what strings are on it?
Nice haircut dude
Wow that’s the loveliest D28 I have ever heard in my life, pretty sure it will have sold already.
❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌🙌
that's a slice of god's own pie.
C'mon Brandon, let's go.
During WWII, I would not have thought they had time to make instruments. Weren't they making wooden decoy tanks?
Here is a link to a '42 D-28:

Is it not Brazilian?
does anyone recognize the songs Micheal played or are these just his own ideas?
