Elliott Smith, the Beatles and a Martin D-18 on my fave GOTD, flat-top Friday. Doesn’t get much better than that. Still sending love to Norm and the entire NRG team. ✌🏼
I’ve been in South Sudan for almost two years as a humanitarian aid worker and all I can say is thank you for theses videos. The reach of Norman’s rare guitars is all over the world and Lemmo + Jen have brightened many of my days here :)
Cool story about your trip Michael. Great playing in the video. Come on Norm get well soon we are all counting on you. Norm you have friends from all over the world that care about you. 🙏
The reach of Normans Rare Guitars and GOTD series is actually international 🙂 Your shop seems to be the best music place ever. Greetings from eastern Europe 🎸🪕
Too many times that i thought i"d stop playing.. But everytime i watch lemmo on flattop friday it makes want to pick up them old wood.. Thanks Michael.. Get well.. Norms...
I liked the introduction jen is awsome at capturing each guitar's personality. I have learned many cords from you lemmo. Ps I need a t shirt wanted one since i was a kid.
Glad you finally got to take the factory tour. It’s an amazing place. I was fortunate enough to take it before Covid when I was visiting family in Hatboro.
Awesome Mike! Watching these videos gives me inspiration that with enough practice I might exude just a quarter of the talent you and the rest of the talented people that work at Norm's possess. I hope Norm is well! Hopefully I get the chance to visit this shop one day.
That’s the ultimate player/ recording Dreadnought! Every big studio with a well curated back line should own one. Prices have gone up, but it would still make sense that a lot of artists would then have a way of experiencing an amazing instrument and get a perfect sound. Get well soon, Norman!
Doylestown! Have you ever visited D-Town Guitars & Skateboards? A great local independent music store. Rob Martyn and his crew will always take good care of you. They know their stuff.
‘56 Martin D-18… yep way cool. But…. You go JEN… new title start… prelude capture.. titling upgrade.. whole new look..WE see you lady..great job! Like it.👌🏼👍🏻
Martin's "non-adjustable truss-road" was just a piece of steel snow sled runner with a T-shaped cross section -- very inexpensive, off-the shelf stuff and almost impossible to bend, even by the heavy strings that were so common back in day.
I have an ‘82 HD-28 that needs a neck reset. I’m told that Martin will do the reset gratis if you’re the original owner. Sadly I’m the 2nd owner since 1992 and am told it could cost over $600-1200 😢
Nice demo. The D-18 is my fave Martin. Glad the trip home was so great. Get well, Norm !! edit,,,,Been on a Miss Misery 'bender' with news of the passing of Nazareth's Manny Charlton (Rest In Peace). In search, this guy Elliot Smith kept popping up, usually first. After about six goes of the HOTD version i've loved since '76, gave his a spin. Out after the first two lines. nope, a different tune. My loss ;)
Hands down my faves the Martin’s out of Nazareth have solid credentials but don’t lift your nose to high, when you see one Hecho en Mexico 🇲🇽 Stellar Co. the best IMO. I have a 2013 and a 2021 both are treasures. Thanks NRG
The d 18, a no frills, pure tone guitar of the real workman musicians out there. Not the perfect aesthetic condition cos of refin, but a beautiful delicate sound and the patena that has been earned through years of music. I have written a song about my norms shirt on my fifth album (see channel) - Thunderwords are go, called 'The T Shirt blues' but I am not in an exotic location so I don't think I qualify for the competition...What I was really digging was Mike's Philadelphia Eagles shirt - how cool was that - Fly Eagles Fly. The Martin factory sounded brilliant - the sheer American history behind those walls, definitely recommended. Everybody speaks with reverence about Kurt's guitars but they don't include the 100 dollar teisco he rammed into a cab in 1988 and left in pieces. That was how he felt about guitars. In this case, however, the sheer quality and tone makes this guitar a great deal. If you can live without herringbone trim the historic sound is there. Welcome back Mike from the Cat channel over here in the UK...Ps - I wear the cap that goes with his shirt (but grey instead) however and most importantly - Take Care norm keep fighting to get back to us all - all the best...graham.
All the strings are placed slightly off it's place when you look closely, seems like a bridge is off the center for some reason, or it's a slots on a bridge itself

Letter bee Cool sounding Martin The older Martins are the best and had no adjustable truss rods til the 1980's. That was probably part of why they sound(ed) the way they did/do. But they had a lifetime guarantee and too many of their guitars got warped necks and needed resets. This was expensive and impractical so they started having adjustable truss rods. Gibson guitars did that half a century earlier. Also the Martins were much lighter and had more resonance but were more fragile. Both companies had great guitars ; Martin flat tops and Gibson flat tops and archtops. I have some and love them. Norm say hi to your fans who miss you. The whippersnappers are running the store. Luckily they're cool, almost as cool as you but not quite.
We have my dads orig 56 D-18 with case that he bought new in 56. Cost him $300 then he said. He passed in 2010, but his is a slim neck. Not sure if that one is. I put some new Martin lights on it and man it resonates awesome. Cheers
i was looking at the front of norms on google map. i see there's a coffee and tea place. next to you is a massage? i bet there oils vibrate of the shelves from you guys jamming out. and!! i see there are alot!!! of pizza joint's all around you. even a dominions a few doors down, who's pizza around there is the best?
Lemmo is great in every possible way…except the fact that he doesn’t seem to care that much about vintage instruments. Remember Mark? He couldn’t play like L, but his love for the details was contagious. Trogly can’t play for shit. But, that boy cares.
That is NOT a good refin. That refin will adversely affect the tone. So no wonder that the song Michael plays is tuned down, a bunch, so as to mask how awful the guitar sounds in regular tuning. True.

This may be the best Martin I’ve ever heard played on this channel! Dat tone doe
Like the editing in this video, you guys are stepping up your GOTD game!
I think you mean the camera work as there is no editing in this video , it’s one shot

That guitar sounds phenomenal.
Really enjoyed that Let It Be rendition. Thanks!
Glad you finally got to take the factory tour. It’s an amazing place. I was fortunate enough to take it before Covid when I was visiting family in Hatboro.
Great job, Michael...the "D" tuning really enhances the mellow tone coming out of that '56 Dreadnought. Cheers!
Lemmo! You made my heart ache with the Elliot Smith song and your rendition of Let it Be. Excellent work by you both.
Peace.
Amazing playing on a beautiful guitar.

I just leaned this recently: “Martin started using adjustable truss-rods in 1985. Everything they built prior had a non-adjustable truss-rod.”
...but I was told that I am the winner
