*Lesbian* comes from the name of the Greek island, Lesbos, where Sappho was born (as many of you know), so it's a shame that there's such a negative connotation with the word. As a lesbian (and actually from Lesbos, Greece), I am now proud of my ancestry, but it took me some time. I understand completely where you're coming from Fran, as I'm sure many others from the LGBTQ+ community do. Happy Pride month, everyone!❤🏳🌈
Growing up in the 80’s, it was such a strong word. Even if porn was not so ‘mainstream’ and accessible, the word was sadly associated with that.
I remember the moment I chose to stop worrying about that and how I loved to feel connected to Sappho (I studied Ancient Greek and Latin in high school, so it was really a strong feeling) and some kind of … idk, legacy? An intellectual bond born from the celebration of how we love.

Your episode was a great comfort for me. I'm a 40 + Queer women and married to a man with a family. We are partners in business, so this makes life harder to come out. I love this man and my family. I don't feel like I'm living a lie, but sometimes I feel alone.
Responding to you talking about discovering your sexuality at a later age: Very recently, I discovered that I bisexuality (at the age of 28). Still not out to my family or most of my friends...(and some I may never come out, because of religion x.x) there's no shame in discovering these things later in life. ❤
In a way, how exciting to learn something so core about yourself at a later point in your life. Some people stay the same their whole lives.

I'm in small creative crisis in which I wanted a hobby to keep my hands occupied, but I didn't want the mental pressure of drawing/painting... My current obsession has been nature! I went on a roadtrip around Western United States last month and visited several national parks. I've been in awe of all the sights, especially in the desert. Since returning from the trip, I've been making a point to go out on walks regularly and enjoy the local parks in my area.

I've been struggling with my creativity lately, as I moved countries and have not been financially stable for the past few months, so the things that usually make me happy, like drawing, illustration and even coffee (shocking and sad :D ) don't anymore. Feel very depressed lately.
So my newest obsession is to grow in other creative ways, with the things already accessible to me, such as books, podcasts, cooking + helping others with their projects. Plus would love to find artists in Switzerland and connect, go to coffee and drawing dates.
That way I can slowly get back on track with my online store and my art social media, which I've been putting on the back burner.

Oh Fran, I loved your video as always. I can answer your question saying that my latest obsession is hi-fi music. I've been reading and watching a lot of videos about music and audio quality. About tape vs cd vs vinyl vs streaming, and current digital qualities and etc. So, even though I don't have a turntable, I've been buying a lot of CDs lately.

I've been following you for years and hearing you say that you are the woman that you wanted to be ten years ago made me cry. You are a remarkable person and I'm so happy and proud of you :^)
Fran, you don't sound full of yourself at all! I'm so happy for you that you are the person you've always wanted to be. You should be unabashedly proud of yourself, because you worked hard and showed up for yourself when you needed to. And it paid off. I'm in my twenties, and I'm just like past you - feeling a million miles away from being the person I want to be. So you saying you made it there eventually feels very encouraging, like my current effort will pay off, and that I can appreciate who I am now as well.
I was so happy to see that you're also inspired by Emmie! She's lovely and made me want to read more. I'm definitely also obsessed with books right now - reading A Certain Hunger, The Poppy War and Night Sky in Exit Wounds (also Ocean Vuong!) at the moment. Its so good to get an update from you Fran! And can I just say that your hair looks amazing? It does 💕 Lately I have been obsessed with learning about queer and especially Lesbian poets, and reading their poetry, of course. There are so many amazing women poets who were never included in my school curriculums (honestly a lot of American schools do not teach any of the classics at all.)
Lately the poets I’ve been crushing on the hardest are Mary Oliver, Audre Lorde, and Edna St. Vincent Millay. I’ve also gotten a collection of lesbian poetry called “My Lover is a Woman, Contemporary Lesbian Love Poems edited by Leslea Newman” and I HIGHLY recommend it!
I was only able to come around to identifying as a lesbian at around 28, and I’m 31 now, and I haven’t dated. Its been really hard as a romantically inclined person to not have relationships, but I’m going on this surprisingly romantic journey with myself and these poets through learning about their lives and legacies, struggles, loves, and scandals!!
I also really recommend the podcast “History is Gay,” it has been incredibly validating and insightful, moreso than any other research I have done into the elements of queer history.
First off I want to say thank you for sharing you journey of self discovery. My friend actually shared your channel with me, because I am literally going through the same situation in my life. I am also 34 yrs old, recently broken up with a man and have really been questioning my sexuality and who I am as a person.. OOO and I also live in Brooklyn and i'm also hispanic lol !!!! Your videos have really helped me feel more okay with what is happening, but it totally agree with you, even in the times we live today, coming out later in life definitely feels much more difficult. You seem like such a cool person and would love to meet you one day if your would be up for it!

Right now I'm reading the memoir "Greedy" by Jen Winston. It's a memoir reflecting on bisexuality/queerness and how Jen has navigated their queerness throughout their life. It's also partially set in NYC. It's funny and relatable- I really think you'd like it.
Hi Fran :D !! Always so fun to hear from you. I took screenshots of your book lists- thank you for sharing!! Lately I’ve been obsessed with flowers and landscaping! Every spring I get so excited to take walks around my neighbourhood (wow what a hard word to spell*) and see how everyone is tending to their front yards! This new passion of mine also serves as a reminder that I am now officialy an adult lol. I can add this to my list of adulty things I now enjoy such as tupperware and cleaning hacks 😅

Really loved listening to you talk about your sexuality. I'm 26 and have been comfy in my sexuality (I'm Bi) since I was really young, yet sharing this with others and talking about it freely is still hard. There is always this feeling of me not being "this" or "that" and needing to choose, so that's why it's hard to talk about it/be proud about it all the time.

My latest obsession is gardening. I’ve always loved it, but I’ve recently been doing a lot of reflecting and long story short, I’m finally allowing myself to become truly obsessed with something. It’s such a joy! It speaks to my love of making things look better, but us also teaching me to be patient ;)

i'm actually OBSESSED rn with LOONA, it's a kpop group but a very odd one, with mysterious complex lore, highly developed and diverse aesthetics and they just participated in a reality tv competition and I fell in love with the girls as professionals too, the way they approach and talk about the work. also they seem to be very easygoing people with a collective spirit, you can see they care about each other and wish for everyone to do their best. I've liked them for a few years and it's one of the few kpop music I actually like, i actually got hooked on the concept, the lore and the MVs before liking the music. but discovering this more personal side of them is weird and cool, and fits really well with what you said about who the artist is as related to what their work turns out to be, and even knowing that they're portrayed in a strategic way bc of idol industry, they present much more neighborly than you average idol. if by chance you (or anyone) check them out, but are/is not sure if you want to go on a full journey, it might be best to watch the "LOONA the avengers of kpop" video here in youtube. it does contain spoilers so beware.

I'm obsessed with making journals. Right now my twin sister and I are making twin 4th of July journals, our birthday. We're using the same exact supplies but not showing each other anything yet. This past week I have totally fallen in love with Anime and I am now obsessed with the new show "Spy x Family" - I have literally not laughed this much in years and I just love art and animation, so Anime is a whole new world to explore!
