I know it's been while, but finally came around to finishing another video! I know the business videos aren't everyone's favourites, but I hope you enjoy!
EDIT: Some short answers to questions I've seen in the comments:
*1. From where did I get the information?*
Almost put that one in the video - all the financial info I use is from the companies' own financial statements/ quarterly reports. Publicly traded companies need to publish those regularly and you can find them on their websites - just google.
*2. If Tesla made a loss of $2.2 billion, how come they only lost $60 million in cash?*
Because not every cost you incur is paid in cash. For example, say you own a car. Last year, your car lost $1,000 in value. If you were a business, in your accounting you would note down those $1,000 as a *cost* - because it is a real cost! But not a cost you have to pay in cash. That's why "profits" and "losses" are on paper. But cash is the hard currency you gained or lost.
*3. What about government subsidies?*
Yes, the US government has been supporting Tesla through tax breaks and loans. The reason I didn't touch on this in the video, is because the effective amount of cash Tesla has received through those programs is borderline insignificant, compared to the amount of cash they have received from non-state lenders and investors. In comparison, GM and Ford have received an order of magnitude more support from the US government during the crisis.
The Rest Of Us I think most of us just appreciate your still being concerned with YT
You do videos that interest you and people will find it interesting. Just keep going.
But it's necessary!
The Rest Of Us lol, the reason i sub to you is because of the start up explain video

Right exactly but sadly the truth is that all those product use to make Tesla are being robbed from African countries just like all those other big corporations working with the government .
It's September 2019 and tesla still here and producing more cars.. Taa daaa
They are also still losing money
@@youferrer Do you mean they are still investing in expansion, like the Gigafactory 3? The only major car company to be allowed by the Chinese government to open a factory without a partnership. Or what about the acquisition of Maxwell to ensure their superior lead in battery technology. As the video clearly explained, it's called investing not losing money.
@@TouchBrian Investing, not investing, buybacks, etc; at the end of the day, if they run out of cash, it's game over. The stock is $242 down from their high of $376 (36% drop). Lost 200M last quarter. My point is (I don't own any Tesla stock, nor short, but I own a Model 3 as well as an I-Pace if you're wondering) that they haven't turned a profit (except for 1 quarter), Moodys rate them B3 (junk). So that means that the only way he can continue to raise capital is via stock dilution. Not good.
China did that (I suspect) because they think they may buy him out if he runs out of cash. He's got cash now (I think around 3-5B, I'm not sure) but he has a boatload of debt, the Models S/X are long in the tooth, no semi in sight, and the Model Y still has not ramped up yet (another production hell -- money burning year).
@@youferrer hhhhhh also people were saying Amazon will go bankRupt while it was losing money in 20 years but the truth they were investing and suddenly they started to make money and tesla is going the same path
@@hnktan key difference, Amazon was creating a high barrier to entry in the e-commerce space. Tesla can't do that. Amazon also built AWS which enables them to run amazon.com at break even. Elon-the-Con is going bankrupt, soon. Question is, whether he will go to jail or not.
@@joeschmoe21 yeah, the guy who makes cars that drive themselves and rockets that land themselves is going bankrupt. Why is he going bankrupt if that's true?
@@coolfred9083 : None of things you say are 'true' or relevant.
1. (Not true) He does not make cars that drive themselves. So far he makes cars that crash themselves. 3 deaths so far.
2. (Irrelevant) All rockets have a gimballing mechanism that keeps the rocket straight. The same mechanism is used to keep it straight when coming down. But no one does this because you must have fuel, this fuel has to be pushed all the way up, so you need more fuel. In short, it is a massive waste of Kerosene. It is cheaper and 'greener' to simply throw away the rocket. But Elon-the-con is clever and assumed that you (or people like you don't know the science behind rockets).
Real investors have already abandoned Elon-the-Con. He cannot raise a single penny anymore. He should go to jail for cheating investors, but he will cry (like he did before) to avoid jail term. But nothing can prevent bankruptcy for Elon-the-con.
Well I am pretty sure, that Tesla knows EXACTLY what they are doing.
Theyre doing the, what I call the “Microsoft Move”. Burning A LOT of money in a couple of years, but with the knowledge that they will get WAY more money in some years. In Tesla’s Case, i think thats the process of getting the population to love and actually want their products.
in a few years or decades Elon Musk may be the richest man on Earth. Not! He invests everything in new things, SpaceX, Gigafactory 5-20, Boring Company and so on...

Well this video came out of nowhere. Happy to see a new video from you!
Not true Tesla has been spending about $120 million dollars per hour for a while. Almost every car guy knows about this too. So this really didn't come out of nowhere.
"God Ford really has a debt problem" was most definitely the best part of the video😂
debt generally only becomes a problem when you dont have the income to service it. Arguing about size of debt means nothing. Debt vs income may tell you something.
This is why Ford is slowly leaving the production of cars. They'll produce less and less cars that you and me can buy. First time in their long history. Pity, because I really like their cars.
They don't have a debt problem though. Ford basically runs their own bank, so when a customer gives them $0 down for a $50k truck, that is recorded as $50k worth of debt. However, since Ford is running the loan all by themselves, they get all the interest payments that would normally got to a bank. So in the end they went $50k into debt giving you the loan, but you gave them $60k over 5 years so they gained $10k.
this video was so well put together with some very smart humor. thank you!
I've noticed that the most successful people I've seen aren't really out to get rich. They're out to change the world. The fortune soon follows. Important lesson for the kids.

Unfortunately, businesses do not operate like that. The shareholders of the company would have the CEO fired and replaced with another CEO who strives to make profits, ensuring that the shareholders receive dividends. Anyone that is currently investing in Tesla now is merely investing based on hope and because of its share-price.
@@XtoCee yes, for once, people dont care about getting money themselves by unethical companies, they care about the world
@@XtoCee Erm, not really? It depends on who your shareholders are. Obviously everyone who buys shares has to believe you are going to earn a profit eventually, but they also buy because they believe your vision. They may believe in it philosophically or for financial reasons, but they typically do believe in it. Especially in this period Tesla is in (incidentally, Tesla doesn't and has no intentions of paying dividends to my knowledge. Neither has Amazon, just for a fun fact). And one can have a vision to change the world and an eye towards eventual profitability. And a distinction has to be made between appointed executives and founders/owners. Nearly every juggernaut of industry was indeed founded by a visionary who wanted to change the world. Rockefeller wanted to put quality kerosene for heat and light in every man's hands (modest today but revolutionary in the time), Ford believed in the automobile future, AT&T envisioned a society connected, Bezos firmly believed in the revolutionary potential of home-delivered online retail (in a time when everyone else was giving up on home delivered retail). All of them sunk massive investments to achieve what they believed could be. You don't have to like these people or their visions, but all of them are indeed visionaries. Which makes a lot of sense, there is incredible risks in entrepreneurship of this scale and most people would bail early. As has been said, "If your only goal is to become rich, you will never achieve it." That's gotten a bit fuzzy lately, but it's still relatively true. You have to be willing to take major risks, which you can't do if you are holding tight to every dollar.
Wow. I‘m actually speechless. Such a well made video. Haven’t seen sth like this in a long time.

So basically it's simple Tesla stays alive because people believe in it and because they're producing a sufficient amount of cars.
15Stratos bitcoin...
People believe in it because there is a lot of capital chasing relatively few good ideas. Producing a sufficient amount of cars is a promise and is a good thing because of idea that they make a profit on each car that they produce. My guess is that marginal profit is based on sketchy cost accounting that seriously underestimates the cost of their batteries, and the likely future cost of batteries. There is so much disinformation in the global economy that the success of Tesla is detached from whether this is economically beneficial. Looking at the global economy, Tesla is a boutique.
Well, that's exactly how the financial market works. That's basically the first thing we were taught while studying economics. As long as people believe in something, it will work (religion is a prime example). That's how also, the iPhone has been selling millions of units. As long as people believe that it's cool to own an iPhone, that crap will continue to sell like pastries.
Rid1Bee
true that...but let's have a look at the same situation but roll back the years a bit. Nokia was the leader in phones, then came apple. If Tesla's the leader in EVs and something like the new porsche taycan is simply better, tesla will get destroyed.
Imeth Don Nokia failed not because of the quality of its products, but because it failed to enter the smart phone market.

The creator(s) of this video are some of the most financially literate people on RUclips I have ever seen. They accurately described what cash flow is as well as the types of cash flow. The level of detail they used to depict and describe how everything worked is absolutely astonishing. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
my macro econ professor did well at keeping me interested, but it was my finance professors who helped me grasp these concepts. I think that if I had watched this then I would've understood the concepts a little faster. luckily I'm done with school (BSBA in Finance). typically when I click on these videos I look to tweek or correct them on some of the concepts, or I save the video to show other people who look to me for finance help. this video was just put together incredibly well. after watching a few other videos I have even learned a few things.
+midget_killer777 I'm not against praising the guy for a job well done, but let's be honest, the economics behind why Tesla hasn't gone bust are very basic, and the video took far too much time explaining obvious things that really don't matter.
"Q: Why has Tesla not gone bust? A: Idiots are giving them free money based on hopes and dreams. When they lose money, investors donate more money to keep them running."
Tesla keeps issuing shares and morons keep investing in the company, the reason for which I can only chalk down to a combination of good marketing and investor delusion. Reminds me of the DotCom bust, in which you had eBusinesses floating on the stock market to the tune of $100 million, despite struggling to make even $100k P/A profit. It's no wonder the bubble burst with that level of financial disparity, and Tesla is no different. If anything goes even slighty wrong, the company will be wiped.
+pmodd Tesla is operating at a loss and has for many years, at the same time there is large potential for them to gain large market share in the automotive industry. what matters is that there are people buying the products and still a heavy demand. there is a huge risk in the company and you are right there is a huge chance they can go bust. however; if they can achieve the goals laid forth then their investors get a huge return. Im not recommending people go out and buy the stock (I typically recommend funds anyways for diversification purposes). what I did like about this video is that the creator was able to show how it is possible for a company to stay moving even when it has done nothing but lose money. while I dont typically go into this level of detail when explaining how a business operates, there are some people that could grasp the concept easier with the way this video describes Tesla.
in all fairness this video is what I brag about, not Tesla. also, time for my rant of a bubble.... bitcoin.... I swear it has scam written all over it.

Ellon... ELON

Interesting video, but seems like it's subjective towards Tesla, which is fine. But I think Tesla could easily lose more money. For example, they bought SolarCity the debt they had to help bail out himself and his family. It's probably better for people to start asking questions about how Tesla could fail and in what circumstances, instead of how they can succeed, if you're looking to invest. Don't really care much about the company valuation and stocks, but I do like their cars.
I don't have the numbers to back up what I'm about to say, but I'm sure they can be found. Tesla's main product is not their cars or their technology. Tesla's core product is a customers weekly (or more often) use of the recharge station. If you were to include the earnings when 50,000+ vehicles use a charging station on a weekly basis, you'll soon discover that Tesla's competition is not other car manufacturers but instead the gas companies.
If a video including this information could be created, things would look much different in favor of Tesla.
