  • If you have never removed the engine from one of the early 80's Honda DOHC inline fours, you will have no reservations about doing it yourself after watching my video. A minimum number of tools are needed and if you have a motorcycle jack, you're in business.
Note that the bike I'm working on in this video is an '83 CB1100F. The procedure is identical for the 1981 and 1982 CB900F. The CB750 engine is not rubber mounted in the frame like the other models, but the overall procedure is very similar.
I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful. Thanks for watching!

Tom, this is great stuff. Thanks so much for taking the time to do the video. Lighting and such were excellent. Folks may not realize the challenges with the video part - beyond that of the task you are demonstrating.
A couple of items of note: You'll still want to use the service manual. Tom mentioned carbs, airbox, etc, but you'll also need to remove the chain/sprocket from the left side. That means loosening the rear wheel axle and rotating the chain adjusters to create chain slack. You also need to remove the gearshift lever and the drive sprocket cover. He also removed the right side brake pedal and the mount to which it connects prior to the start of the video. That enables you to remove the subframe assembly. All easy stuff.
The key is the adapter plate to enable your jack to securely support the engine and make engine removal safe and easy. Thanks again Tom!

Thanks Chuck - thanks for the good words. Believe it or not, I didn't use any special lighting and just shot it with an inexpensive camcorder set up on a tripod. I just made sure that things looked clear and relatively easy to see.

I also run a channel where I am sharing all things abou tthe CB750f as I record my journey from rookie to hopefully a well all round mechanic one day. Thank you again for making this video !

    Thanks Mate nice video
That is a lot easier than a 1996 Honda CB Seven Fifty F2 RC42 they don't have the removable lower frame which makes it really tight pulling the whole motor out
For me. If I'm going to remove a 1996 motor I'll take the rockers and cams off first

Nice video - thanks for shooting and sharing.....I just removed my CB1100f engine single without help, I used a jack very similar to the one you used but with some 4x2's and ratchet straps, would have been good to have made a fixture like you have, that keeps it nice and secure

Thanks for the great video Tom. I believe I am looking at an engine removal on my 83 1100F. The Primary dampers seem to be getting brittle and are making the familiar "clunking" noise. Wish there were an easier way to replace them other than splitting the cases. Honestly, I dread the thought.....
