  • Cutting Tool, its various Parts, Tool Nomenclature, Tool Signature, Tool Geometry, Tool Designation
    Tool Geometry is defined as the combination of 7 values (6 angles and a radius) in a specific order that helps us determine the type of tool being used. In other words, it specifies the tool, so it is also called Tool Signature.
    Orthogonal Rake System (ORS) clearly explained in short with Inclination Angle, Clearance Angles, Rake Angle, Approach Angles. This system is based on the cutting edge of the tool.
    Another popular system of Tool Nomenclature is the ASA system (American Standards Association). This system is based on the longitudinal feed direction, that is the X and the Y axes.
    Check out my video on ASA System : • Video
    This has been explained extensively in this video through a 3D CAD model created in SolidWorks, using different planes, views, and sections.

      have u done any similar work on NRS system?

    • @Mech4Mechs
      @Mech4Mechs  8 лет назад

      I didn't make a video on Normal Rake System (NRS), since it is similar to Orthogonal Rake System (ORS).
      Here, the Orthogonal Plane (pi O) is replaced by a Normal Plane (pi N, perpendicular to the the cutting
      edge). The rake angle and clearance angles change accordingly. Note, in this case, pi R and pi N are not mutually perpendicular, but dependent on the inclination angle. Also, ORS and NRS coincides if inclination angle is zero.
      This video might help.. Good Luck..

      They don't have a 3D model. They have to convert 3D on to a blackboard, so it is difficult to explain and visualise on a blackboard.

    At 1:43 the orthogonal plane, which is vertical in this case, should be perpendicular to the principal cutting edge, no? Since orthogonal plane is perpendicular to both reference plane and cutting plane (which contains the principal cutting edge). But it is drawn perfect vertical.
    Can anyone please explain ?
