We own a hardware store, Vergas Hardware, in northwest Minnesota. Dogs are always welcome, have never had a problem. We have a resident cat, Stanley, who tolerates them, and is very friendly to people. He has lived there 8 years, since rescued as a kitten. People come in often to pet him, and don't necessarily buy anything. LOL. He comes and goes inside and out, but stays inside more in the winter. Our area is known for cold and snow.

Former Cancer Research UK shop manager here. I finished working for CRUK in March 2024 and I must say a lot of their policies are very anti customer and anti shop staff by putting unnecessary barriers in the way.
Like most companies the "no dog policy" was created by the higher ups (who have no clue what they are doing most of the time) in a bid to push better health and safety / relinquish any liability on their part but most shop staff were against the policy as all it did was alienate customers with dogs and loose sales which is the opposite of what you would want to do during these harsh economic times. We used to have regulars who would always come in with dogs and we even had treats behind the till as it was a joy to have dogs visit us, to tell them they are no longer allowed in with a dog after 30 or so years of them doing so created so much awkward friction were there was none before.
Its absolutely stupid in my opinion.

One of the worst charities I’ve ever worked for. I would not even put 10p in a charity box for them!!

@@teresalast7352 I must say I didn’t have a very good experience working there either. Very cliquey and area managers think they can do and say whatever they want to whoever they want without repercussions. They are very £££ focused.

St John's street has some lovely shops and charity shops. Each is great for children's games and toys and there's a couple of others as well.

Charity shops and Cath Kidston 😅I have come to the conclusion that they are basing their prices on how popular it was 10 years ago! The fact that none of the physical stores exist should probably give them a clue.

It seemed like more and more shops were becoming dog friendly (not just charity shops) so I think Cancer research are making a big mistake. My local charity shop never allowed dogs (grumpy manager) but now they do and they always give my dog treats. I am going to be looking out when I visit Cancer research in other areas to see if they are all following this policy

oof I think you'd probably get cheaper stuff from the antique centre! At 5:10 there's two jack-in-the-pulpit red glass vases with bubble bases; those are mid century Aseda (sweden) and can fetch good money if you're selling to the US market.

    • @andreahills74

I know, it’s crazy isn’t it! Unfortunately the market isn’t the same for the vases here in U.K.

Thank you for taking us with you on this trip. I live just over an hours drive from Bury St Edmunds and you’ve motivated me to take a trip there! Did you look at the green glass vase in shot at around 9.30 in your video? It looks like a Darlington vase but could be a copy as the glass looked a bit thick 🤷‍♀️.

I can’t believe that the cancer charity shop didn’t want you in with Jeff ,I now will not go into for that reason I will spend my money elswhere ,was there a notice on the door .? They need every penny they get had it been me I wouldn’t have gone through with the sale iwould ave politely told them to keep it ,but I will ask around my area which is Southport near liverpool if this is happening here as I the next few days we have a very large cancer research shop opening on the central 12 shopping place they are taking over one of the very large stores ,so leave it with me ,but there is always another shop or charity that will take your money ,we have a hospice down the road from where I live supported greatly by the local community my freind is in there as we speak and they encourage you to takes your dogs in to see the patients as a therapy ,imquite annoyed at this being an animal lover and dog owner until recently

We hadn’t noticed a sign if there was one as we’d taken him into Cancer Research many times. The lady serving us was really lovely and didn’t seem to agree with the new policy but unfortunately it was her job to have to tell people.
I think they underestimate how much business they will lose.

Loved that brown teapot with the blue band around it, even though I never use teapots. Sad about the ban but to be honest even as a dog lover I can understand why they would say no. Not all dogs are as well behaved as Jeff and some owners are just not vigilant and would let their dogs pee up the merch 🤢
