chocomint's Made of Fire HDDT 98.54 full combo. Without a doubt, one of the most impressive plays ever set in osu! history, but one that takes some experience to appreciate fully. In the 12 years that this map has been ranked, chocomint's score remains the ONLY DT FC, and there's much more to unpack about this score. While some maps easily convey how difficult they are through the raw aim, or speed requirements, Made of Fire is much more nuanced than it may seem at first glance. To help illustrate just how difficult this play is, I would like to break down and analyze aspects of the map and the play itself. Right off the bat, we get a sense of the density of the notes, and the reading difficulty associated. With DT applied, the map becomes around 243 bpm, and approximately AR 9.67, a higher note density than most players are used to. Still, this should be manageable, but adding to the difficulty is the constant rhythm of, and spacing of the patterns which continues for the entire map. These would already pose a significant challenge to players' rhythm sense, reading, and finger control, but with hidden, the reading becomes MUCH harder. This is all bread and butter to someone like chocomint, who plays maps with similar patterns all the time, but everything we've gone over is just the beginning. Ask any top player what the hardest part of Made of Fire is, and they will all say the aim control. Many of the patterns in this map are continuous with strange velocity and angle changes, which need very fine adjustments in a player's aim to hit. None are more apparent than the various zig-zag patterns, which appear in the highest spacing sections. These require a player to aim to each note in a 1/4th beat time window, while potentially changing to an almost opposite direction. This is where chocomint shines, as almost no players have the level of aim control which he does. Bringing it all together is where the magic of this play really lies. DT alone makes the aim control barely in reach for any other player, but adding hidden makes these highly control-intensive patterns nearly impossible. Following the rhythm on such a map can be hard already as well, and trying to keep high accuracy, given the layout of the patterns, becomes ridiculous too. The real challenge is diverting focus between the aim aspect and the tapping aspects of the map, while keeping your reading in check as well. Keeping up with the map the entire way through to such a degree is exactly why chocomint's play is so astonishing. It's hard to put into words how much skill goes into a play like this, but to get an idea, I recommend trying the map for yourself. chocomint's HDDT score truly is in a league of its own when it comes to the aspects described earlier. Just over 2 years after it was set, some players are now approaching DT FCs, but not with nearly as high accuracy, and the majority lacking hidden. For now, it will remain a dream play for every top play, and a reality for chocomint. Hopefully this video has given you some more insight into, and appreciation of, one of osu!'s best plays of all time.

My Top 10 would go: 1. Cookiezi’s Freedom Dive play 2. Mrekks Cycle Hit play 3. Cookiezis Made of Fire play 4. Merami’s Mo ii Kai play 5. Karchers Yomi Yori play 6. Vaxei’s Tsukinami play 7. Mrekks play on the original United 8. GNs The Unforgiving play 9. Ekoros SS on Sputnik 10. Vaxei’s Because Maybe Pt3 play (Special honourable mention to Vaxei’s FC on the harder Euphoria earlier this year that play is genuinely crazy)
I think Shige's FOUR DIMENSIONS is without a doubt the greatest play ever. It's not just about the difficulty, though that was notable, too. It was about the effect it had, the message it sent.
Recency Bias is crazy, a lot of those plays are really recent, c'mon guys, rrtyui big Black SS, Cookiezi everything will freeze HRHD FC, First FC on Tengaku, Whitecat 6x on Galaxy Collapse.
i'm really really surprised that jot_bab's DTFL union fc choke play wasn't mentioned at all. unbelievable play that he played so so so many times to memorise the entire map at a ridiculous speed. On top of that, it hit the pp record at i believe 1258pp...? (before it got extremely nerfed to 955pp on the next rework) Which I believe gives it an even bigger reason to be at least an honorable mention. watching it is just insane because it's hard to understand how it's even possible and i don't think any other player could ever recreate it without an insanely ridiculous amount of time put into it
No matter what, Cookiezi's Yomi Yori HD FC choke in 2017 would be the best score has ever set for me. Absolutely insane play, especially considering the gap between misscount of Shige and misscount of Rafis/Aricin, who were the others who passed it NM back then and took the first places on the map's leaderboard, being the best speed players of the time. The difference is quite astonishing, it was around 30 misses, despite Rafis is indisputably being the second best player of 2017. Shige's crazy shake after almost SSing the hard part, incredibly epic vocals makes the score some sort of unique and memorable at this point. Truly represents what Cookiezi was capable of at his 2017 peak, how far he was from others, this kind of skill, which can't be replicated by many even for today.
@@zachariascarlstromselimovi1243 for players so ahead of their time like cookiezi mrekk and maybe some others it's like their plays age like fine wine as other people take years to catch up, and maybe later on we'll realize mrekk was even more of a monster in his prime compared to what cookiezi was relative to other players of his time, but for me shige will always be the goat regardless, i discovered the game watching this dude play and no one can ever have as much magic as he does
@@oba1637 Current top players are all just monsters! Speaking of Shige tho, the 2013 leaderboard of FDFD was just insane, never seen anything like it. image here: external-preview.redd.it/XQODT7RKG01XhNr8h_moFcHJ1Vyg-q6M5IAsusVzvKs.png?auto=webp&s=89582faef7c9d9ec952747e5d416d3617e9b1515

@@AxieSpot bro weird rhythm maps are on of the most unpopular skillsets in osu. Skillsets like aim, speed and flow aim have had way more time to evolve and way more players try to push the limits on them. I get that it is cool to see unexplored skillsets instead of the usual farm maps, but you can't tell me sputnik is close to as impressive has team magma or mou li kai. Sorry for the rant but I have seen this type of post so many times that I needed to comment something.
@@idontknowwhatusernametouse4067 overtime you're gonna see more plays like team magma 3 mod but nothing like ekoro's SS on sputnik would ever happen again. The precision and brains to hit something like that is absurd, if it were a 1x100 it wouldnt be as impressive but holding 100% throughout is what makes it goated. it's up to debate but to me its definitely top 10, but alot of plays could be tbh
@@AxieSpot If maps like sputnik become viable for pp then I think we would see a lot more weird rhythm plays better than sputnik. Also an ss on sputnik is already pretty doable for a lot of players, worst hr player has a 99,73 fc and there are a lot of hr plays with more than 97 acc. I'm pretty sure people have beat ekoros ss unstable rate, I know it's harder to get good unstable rate on low od but my point still stands. I personally think sputnik is pretty overrated but I guess we can agree to disagree.
@@idontknowwhatusernametouse4067 yea but also in other rhythm games people set crazy rhythm scores like Sputnik SS I thought it was amazing but it was anything crazy from a rhythm game perspective, but from an osu perspective it’s crazy. Look up crewk polyriddim brrrrrrr it might be hard to believe but it’s rhythm is 10 times crazier than Sputnik.
MrEkk has been insane ever since he came in and is only getting better everyday is just crazy to think about. Osu players are like anime main characters, they just keep breaking whatever limits exist.
Man every time I see that shige fd, I'm still getting goosebumps, I probably watch that more than 20x already. And btw that play is now worth closer to 1k now... 6 years ago...
I just realized that I've came from SS'ing 1,5* maps and playing anime openings with 70% bg dim to watching this historical stuff with overwhelming pride and understanding of hardness of each score while being banned on game and still being a part of osu! comm. osu! is really an evergreen rhythm game) Edit: HOW IS FGSKY NOT ON THE LIST, GUY FARMED 6* 4 MOD LIKE IT'S A 2* NOOOO
If cycle hit DT is the greatest play of all time then vaxei S ranking it 3 years ago is the most ahead of its time play of all time... The recency bias is crazy
@@ZzFfgg87 and? He's my favorite player but it doesn't change the fact that recency bias is crazy. I also think Mou ii kai should be first lol. It is an objective fact that multiple players can do cycle hit DT but but Aetrna is the only one who can do Mou ii kai. But let me guess, now I'm an Aetrna fanboy too
@@whenisdinner2137 and if you use the logic - they got scores but it wasn’t close to aetrna’s score, I could use the same logic for mrekk with many of his plays, for example the current pp record, or blue dragon, or if you can’t hang top diff, OG united, or soundscape, all of these maps and many more plays, people have gotten decent runs but nobody besides mrekk has fced and well nobody else can do blue dragon besides mrekk so..
Merami’s dthrhd fc will always be the best play for me. It got me back into osu and reignited my love of the artist xi. Also the tsukinami play i find amazing because the song fits the occasion so well in how the melody has a sense of finality and it was that play that passed the 1k barrier.
I feel it's because he has many similar scores and they steal votes from each other, it's not like merami with mou ii kai and ascension to heaven that really stand out: everyone who wanted a merami score in the top submitted one of those two or both, just like anyone who wanted to submit cookiezi sent FDFD, for vaxei it's tsukinami. If I wanted to submit an aim whitecat score, I can choose many sub 10 misscounts on 9* maps that kinda look the same with just 260-300+ bpm jumps all the way through. I guess if he had a single 1k1+ pp with nomod or hr (happy song/chronostasis/fd arles) instead of chokes that could have easily made it.
someone mentionned his galaxy collapse 6 miss and id forgotten about it but honestly that play is so insane it kinda deserves at least an honorable mention
I think idke's cry thunder hr fc could have been an honorable mention, being the score that gave idke #1, was the pp record, and set right before a tournament match. but i guess i'm also biased because that score is one of my favorites
My fav idke's score and probably my favorite score of all time is his hr fc on uta because of how insane his mentality was and for me this is one of the greatest play of all time. Kinda sad it didn't even make it to the honorable mention.
I want to give an honorable mention to Whitecats 3 mod FC on Start Again. That play is really crazy. It definitely doesn't belong in the top 10 by any means, maybe top 20 if I was making the list. 260bpm 3 mod mostly cross map jumps. To my knowledge it was Whitecats 2nd 1k pp play.
Invalid opinion, but it's awesome: EZFLHT+ 1 miss choke, which would be 1337PP world record, if wasn't that miss, but overall i think it's really good record
i know i'm super late but i am absolutely cheesed rrtyui's antibeat tournament s rank of image material wasn't mentioned here. i know it's not even an fc and the score itself isn't all that impressive by today's standards, but during one of more intense parts of the map, he literally misses a note at first, goes back to hit it, HITS IT, and proceeds to get a 2168 combo on it. like, c'mon. edit: not to mention it was his first ever attempt on the map too
There is no way cycle hit is more legend than yomi-yori. Its been played by only 2 people(vaxei 2019, mrekk 2022). When yomi-yori is a constant hype for 5 years+btmc+bounty+karcher double fc. Even every new player knows about yomi-yori. But anyway, thx for the list and all good memories.
great video but just want to mention how criminally underrated mrekk's play on justability dt is, barely anyone can even combo the map, and mrekk makes it to the end of it even fcing the end jumps at least twice.
I'm surprised to see Shige's tori no uta and daisuke not even also being on the honorable mentions list. His tori no uta play may be considered harder than his Maid of Fire FC ngl. That also took many years for him to FC, and yet he also says sh*t acc despite being over 99%. Just shige things I guess.

Gn's flashlight play is indeed legendary, I'm waiting for someone to hd dt it, Idk why noone has yet tbh. Yes the map is long, but consistency on consistency players means that doesn't matter. The only hard maps are In the middle of the night and Iron. Iron is super easy if you can single tap that kinda bpm. In The Middle of the night does have the issue of a 300 bpm stream, but it's also semi stacked and short enough you can wing it - to top that off it's like the 3rd song that plays, which means the hardest part is near the beginning. Guess it'd be annoying to sliderbreak near the end tho...
Y'all are sleeping on shige's education 1x SB. 2nd best misscount is 5 and 2nd best hidden misscount is 8. Even though the break was in the exact middle, he still has the highest combo by a fair amount and over twice the score of #2 on the leaderboard. Edit: after doing some math, I found out that shige also dropped more than 3x less 100s than the second least 100 count score and also is over 5x closer to 100% accuracy than any other player
@@sainedjudger I feel like it's also important take into account how insane the scores are relative to their era Like IMO Yomi Yori and Cycle Hit DTs are both insane, but they'd already been doable for a long time at this point (Vaxei's Cycle Hit runs from a couple yeare back and uh, the 18 bajillion Yomi Yori chokes), so it was moreso a matter of when someone would do it rather than if FDFD HDHR was so ahead of its time that it took over half a decade for someone else to FC it, and the person to reFC it already had things like Road of Resistance HDHR under their belt

The community seems to just care about the plays that give alot of pp Im not saying they arent impressive but there are alot awesome plays that dont give alot pp
Yup, there are many players that have set so many cool scores over the years that I feel people just forgot about. proxycodone's DT FC on Astrosexy comes to mind as a really impressive score since it's still the only DT FC on that map. Maybe not a top 10, but definitely an honourable mention. Plus all the other really legendary scores cookiezi has set over the years (1x100 on Freedom Dive in 2013 as an example).
i mean if all people cared about was pp then the top 10 would just be the top 10 highest pp plays of all time, which is not the case it's just that there's a lot of newer players that don't know/just aren't as attached to older scores, because they discovered the game through more recent scores and that's probably what got them into the game and of course there aren't that many "niche" scores in the list, but it's kind of to be expected when we literally call them niche in the first place, and i'm not saying i agree 100% with the list anyways but there aren't a lot of niche scores i know that i would swap for those ones personally
Honestly with how Vaxei played a lot for money, I kinda take a tiny bit of credit for him getting the 1k that day, I whispered him if he got 1k that day I'd dono 100 (I did keep my end of the bargain). I did it once before with lonely go too and he nearly set that, had my wallet shaking.
Call me crazy but I thought for sure Aetrna's Mou ii kai was gonna get top 3. In terms of legendary plays it's the most viewed video on cpols channel, and I know other plays have way higher views but most of the younger side of the community only watch cpol for replays. Also I would put Mou ii kai top 3 :)

chocomint's Made of Fire HDDT 98.54 full combo. Hopefully this video has given you some more insight into, and appreciation of, one of osu!'s best plays of all time.

i'm really really surprised that jot_bab's DTFL union fc choke play wasn't mentioned at all. unbelievable play that he played so so so many times to memorise the entire map at a ridiculous speed. On top of that, it hit the pp record at i believe 1258pp...? (before it got extremely nerfed to 955pp on the next rework) Which I believe gives it an even bigger reason to be at least an honorable mention. watching it is just insane because it's hard to understand how it's even possible and i don't think any other player could ever recreate it without an insanely ridiculous amount of time put into it
agreed
also fgsky's justadice pp record

@@AxieSpot If maps like sputnik become viable for pp then I think we would see a lot more weird rhythm plays better than sputnik. Merami’s dthrhd fc will always be the best play for me. It got me back into osu and reignited my love of the artist xi. Also the tsukinami play i find amazing because the song fits the occasion so well in how the melody has a sense of finality and it was that play that passed the 1k barrier.

Yes the map is long, but consistency on consistency players means that doesn't matter.
The only hard maps are In the middle of the night and Iron. Iron is super easy if you can single tap that kinda bpm.
In The Middle of the night does have the issue of a 300 bpm stream, but it's also semi stacked and short enough you can wing it - to top that off it's like the 3rd song that plays, which means the hardest part is near the beginning.

uta hr fc was also so much hype
rrtyui's big black ss is the most iconic to me
based
ooooooooooooooo oooooo aaaaa ooooooooo omedetto ooooo
True but this list is about the best plays not the most iconic ones
I completely forgot about the exit this earth's atmosphere score. Insane. Also ryuk goodbye fc
Missing whitecaps galaxy collapse almost fc 😢😢
Not having The Big Black SS by rrtyui Nr. 1 ist actually a crime. Not even one FC at the time and this dude swings in with an SS. And his reaction on stream was just "Ohh..."
The thing about Merami's Miss on Mou Ii Kai is that he didn't even miss in terms of aim. His tapping just got a bit messy there as you can see with 0.25x speed.
he tapped exactly one pixel early i believe
ive never seen a video become outdated legacy content so fast

The community seems to just care about the plays that give alot of pp
Im not saying they arent impressive but there are alot awesome plays that dont give alot pp
Yup, there are many players that have set so many cool scores over the years that I feel people just forgot about. proxycodone's DT FC on Astrosexy comes to mind as a really impressive score since it's still the only DT FC on that map. Maybe not a top 10, but definitely an honourable mention. Plus all the other really legendary scores cookiezi has set over the years (1x100 on Freedom Dive in 2013 as an example).
i mean if all people cared about was pp then the top 10 would just be the top 10 highest pp plays of all time, which is not the case
it's just that there's a lot of newer players that don't know/just aren't as attached to older scores, because they discovered the game through more recent scores and that's probably what got them into the game
and of course there aren't that many "niche" scores in the list, but it's kind of to be expected when we literally call them niche in the first place, and i'm not saying i agree 100% with the list anyways but there aren't a lot of niche scores i know that i would swap for those ones personally
Recency bias
6:29 Same but with fieryrage fc on Raise my Sword's End
This video needs to be redone today bc what happened these past few weeks is insane
I think RyuK’s goodbye and bspower shouldve been on the list. Its stupid hard and the finger control for those two maps are ridiculous
circumstances and all considered, I'm surprised to not see Bubble's Time Freeze HR and idke's Cry Thunder plays not on here
Honestly with how Vaxei played a lot for money, I kinda take a tiny bit of credit for him getting the 1k that day, I whispered him if he got 1k that day I'd dono 100 (I did keep my end of the bargain).
I did it once before with lonely go too and he nearly set that, had my wallet shaking.
I’d put Aricins shinsekai SS in there. 300 bop, first dt fc SS
No play ever blew my mind as much as this one
kind of sad to see no one even mentioning informous's hdhr fc on satori de pon, that play is still absurd even for today's standards
Yeah i was thinking about that too. That play is fucking out of this world.
Call me crazy but I thought for sure Aetrna's Mou ii kai was gonna get top 3. In terms of legendary plays it's the most viewed video on cpols channel, and I know other plays have way higher views but most of the younger side of the community only watch cpol for replays. Also I would put Mou ii kai top 3 :)
i think whitecats chronostasis +hr shouldve been here
if he fc'd it would have been top 3 for sure
Make top 10 legendary plays of all time so we can see older plays being mentioned
As in breaking the record, breaking the boundaries of whats achievable, even moments from world cup that super close
I’m surprised some plays like because maybe part 3 fc, shotgun symphony fc, everything will freeze hr fc, hd euphoria fc, or maybe even illegal paradise fc didn’t make the list
It’s criminal that RyuK’s goodbye fc wasn’t here.
