@@plymouthwelshboy Are you planning to do another video on removing/servicing the carburetor as I believe you mentioned? I could not get my engine to start and suspect that the carb is clogged as it has not been used in 5 years! I checked the basic .... fuel lines and there is no evidence of blockage and plugs anything else comes to mind apart from carb?
I am but I didn't get very far with cleaning mine. The jets were frozen solid and I couldn't get them to move. However, visit my blog at www.arwensmeanderings.blogspot.co.uk and search back a couple of posts....I have put other websites links to someone who cleaned the carburettor off a Tohatsu four stroke 3.5 hp outboard successfully. Hope this helps. Stay safe and well now. Hope you are all ok in Malta
@@plymouthwelshboy You keep safe, too, sir. Got the carburetor off my mercury 6 HP following a RUclips video for that particular engine, cleaned it and managed to put it all back together, and behold! She fired right up! Nice video and usefull.. I have the Mariner 3,5 4-Stroke. So a similar outboard. Just one advice: I see that you still have the galvanished bolts in the shaft and they are already brown. Mine where also galvanished and turned very rusty in no time and difficult to unscrew. I replaced these by rvs bolts. Much more futureproof and easy for servicing. Greetz, Trawler Revenant
Excellent video - thanks. I bought a newer, little used engine like this and it operates very well except for one issue. It bogs down when I accelerate. Do you have any suggestions as to what corrective measures I should perform?
I'm afraid I don't. I suspect it may be carb needing a clean. This was the first time I ever did anything on my engine so it was a steep learning curve
Good looking motor. I just got a 2020 Tohatsu 3.5 going to try it out next week. You ever have any problems with yours? Anything I should know? I purchased mine to use as a emergency backup on my fishing boat. Going to also use it for smaller lakes deep in the bush that I have to atv to.
Hey Steve - great series of videos and, like I Gollinger here, I have just ordered a 2021 3.5hp 4Stroke Tohatsu for my latest boat out here in North Carolina a beautiful 1965 Rhodes 19. @@plymouthwelshboy yes, I want to solve this because I make a lot of trips with the outboard and even if it doesn't consume much it is very annoying to stop in the middle of the sea with the waves to refuel

You should follow your owner manuals service schedule. I think you are doing things that is completely unnecessary like taking apart the carb, Have you ever heard of the saying: If it's not broke, don't try to fix it.
I did follow it and the carb was sticky and cleaned as best as I could get it and now it runs really sweetly 😁 and I learned a huge amount about how the outboard works. So next time I am out, if it ever went wrong, I'd have.l a starting chance of fixing it....nothing ventured nothing gained....😁

Never had a problem with it other than the original manufacturing quality control mistake on the part of the factory as mentioned on one of the videos

Hey mike sorry this has just popped up on my site....two years late..... so sorry....no it doesn't have an external fuel feed connection
Ho lo stesso fuoribordo e vorrei collegare un serbatoio esterno, ci hai mai pensato?
I didn't think you could connect an external tank to it. If you do, let me know how it goes and how you did it. I'll be very interested in that 😄
