    My grandmother worked for Gottlieb until it switched to Premier Tech. Went to HS with the owners son, his Dad's black Ferrari had license plates that read TILT. Mom worked there, so did my Aunt and the guy she married too. Aunt and Unc went to work for Bally, she tested games. Remember all the parts coming home, even had drop downs for the 70s KISS game.

    I do love watching these repairs on the old EM Pinball machines. Gottlieb are one of my favourites with the older EM's that's for sure. They got a lot out of the technology that was available at the time.

    It's amusing that some people tend to focus on how to say or pronounce stuff correctly when that isn't even the point of the video. No one can be perfect as there are different ways to say it depending on what part of the world or universe you're from. It makes me smile that you would then proceed to "correct yourself" and how "they" say it should be pronounced. Keep on doing what you're doing Ron because your channel is my favorite repair go-to.

    I have one of these machines thats been in storage since the mid 80's. I was saving it for at retirement project :) I might have to get it out and see if I can make it work. I purchased it for $50 from a local arcade (funparlour as we called them here). It was just a small place with probably 2-3 pinball machines and one or two table top games. Think small coastal town in Australia type arcade. I did a bit of research about 10 years ago on restoring it but was advised not to turn it on as it might go up in a ball of flames due to the old wiring. Your video has encouraged me to just give it a go and see what happens. I will need to see if I can get a service kit for it sent to Australia and see what plastics etc need replacing. It was a fun machine to play but the ball seemd to love going down the guts.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 года назад +1

      Go for it man, people are worried about the wiring but there's a difference between old wiring and damaged wiring. Look at the cord and see if it's cut or in trouble, if so replace it just like the ones that's on it, if the machine is properly fused you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Personally on the older games I just unplug them or turn them off when not in use or I'm not around.

    From New Zealand - I’m really looking forward to the next video on this one. Lots of stuff to trouble shoot!
    I’ve been watching these for a while now and am getting to the point I can predict the solutions which is great for working on my EM (Solar City)

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 года назад +1

      David after awhile it gets really fun, it's kind of like a Sherlock Holmes mystery, because the nature of the things is they screw up almost randomly! It's not like, oh the flipper always stops, it's more like "why is that not giving me 500, and it only gives me 50?" then the next time it's "Why do I already have 10 points?" little random mysteries to track down, it's pretty fun. I can't imagine the thousands of machines that have probably been trashed because they had a little switch misadjusted somewhere....

    • @davidg-m1768
      @davidg-m1768 4 года назад

      Joe's Classic Video Games - I loved my first game because it had issues.... not giving 500 points was the first one as it happens. I was very pleased with myself for figuring out the 5 pulses from the scoring motor cog and sorting it out. I might be getting too cocky but I’d quite like to get my hands on one those machines someone was going to trash. Unfortunately the people in NZ who imported an EM know enough not to let them go! Next option is a system 11 - watching you working on the boards gives me more confidence than I should probably have! Thanks for all your great vids - entertaining and informative (plug/receptacle - who knew?!?!)

    Great Vid, Thank you for sharing, this vid has helped me very well. I just got a Gottlieb Quick Draw and have been going through it and learning how to work on it, Just about got it going. I was hoping you would share how you cleand and adjust the points, I have used an old points file I used to use on tuning old motorcycles and have used q tips and even contact cleaner to clean points but I sometimes found the q tip cant get in between some points without bending them some. Also I found contact issues with a piece of cotton coming off the q tip and getting stuck between the points. Thank you for these once again it has really helped as well as Facebook Pinball help..... I like working on these old Gotts and plan to get another one to work on....

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 года назад +1

      Like you said I use an old points file or a really worn out (i.e. not very abrasive) file to clean them. You basically just don't want to go crazy on it and tear the points all up but you do need to get something in there that gets all the grease and oxidization off of it. Glad to hear you've got yours about there! Quick Draw is a great game.
      The old timers used to say to clean the points with a business card, but that was back when they weren't very dirty yet, ha!

      @@stuartfox3790 I was an apprentice engineer at a lighting manufacturer and was told the same on my first day. Still grates whenever I hear people say it. One time on a course there was a young hipster type chap who rejoiced the title "Lighting Designer' . When he asked about which 'bulb' he sould use a murmur when around the room. Fortunately the lecturer 'corrected' him before the 20 other people in the room did.

    Joes Classic, Does all EM pinball games have the Control Band reset coil connect to the 120 AC plug? because I thought I have seen the control bank reset coil in the score motor assembly. The Control Bank Reset coil is connected to which relay switches? The Schematic shows the relay switches names but the schematic doesn't say which relay switches the control band reset coil will turn on or off, so its confusing me. You mentioned the End of Stroke switches on the Score Reels. When the End of stroke switch is Closed what happens? when the End of stroke switch OPENS what happens?

    Your in Rockhill? They bypassed that didn't they? You know, I rode it into Raliegh, all across Caroline, we stopped in Charlotte, bypassed Rockhill we never were a minute late. Words from the late great Chuck Berry! He seems to fit into the pinball scene quite aptly, is it the same Rockhill?

    These machines tickle me. Because they are digital computers of a sort. The logic is just hardwired. Looking at that schematic reminds me a lot of industrial machines with old fashioned relay logic to control them. You just don't see that anymore, as PLC's and computers have rendered this kind of logic obsolete. But this is where computers came from.

    I'm kind of surprised the Gottlieb machines are your favorite because their schematics seem more complicated to decipher. The other pinball machine companies schematics seem clearer. But you answered a question I had about your favorite company that makes pinball machines. I think you did-lol. I'm curious do you prefer Bally, Midway, Sega, Atari or Williams arcade games to play and or work on? Man, you're always good with your humor in these stressful times.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 года назад

      I know what you mean man, I hope you get out of prison soon! They're making it so hard on everybody financially, it's not really helping anymore.... My favorite arcade games to work on are EASILY the Atari games, they're just so cool to troubleshoot and the schematics all make sense. I have a soft spot for Nintendo too though. The Gottlieb ones it's hard to get the schematics for FREE but you can always buy them for about 10 bucks from PBResource.com, and they're very nice, one big sheet like the originals. My favorite pinballs are the weird 80's Gottliebs... but I like about all of them from any of the companies. I'd love to get some Atari pinball machines in, they're weird ducks and they only made a couple. See you on the next video!
