Atari 8-bit Intro - Ghostbusters

- This is the excellent opening sequence to David Crane's Ghostbusters for the 8-bit Atari. It was produced by Brad Fregger, designed by Glyn Anderson, and published by Activision in 1984.
It was very successful, ported to a number of systems, and was considered to be among the best games licensed from a popular movie at the time. The object of the game was to manage a profitable Ghostbusters franchise and catch ghosts throughout New York City, and the gameplay mixed elements of action, driving, strategy, and business simulation.
Some parts of the game (like the driving sequences and the idea of choosing gear for your car) came from a different game that David Crane was developing at the time, titled "Car Wars." Activision acquired the video game rights to Ghostbusters late in the film's production, and so Crane incorporated much of what he had developed for Car Wars into the gameplay of Ghostbusters so they could have a complete and finished game in time for the movie's release.
The digital speech at the beginning of the opening sequence is worth noting, as this was a bit of a novelty at the time on computer systems that did not have dedicated speech synthesizers (like the TI 99/4a). Most pirated copies of the game had the speech removed to cut down on file size.
Played on an Atari 130XE and recorded through a TV Capture Card. Развлечения
The voice sounds a lot better in here than the NES. Im shocked.
The Atari 8-bit line had a very advanced sound chip for it's time, called POKEY. It was always managing to keep up with the SID chip, despite being several years older. And both of those chips could beat the NES with at least clever programming.
@@johnrickard8512 POKEY was designed to play 4 bit digitised sounds back in the 1970s!
holy shit i actually understood the voice in this one better than the nes.
fucking christ
The NES doesn't have the greatest speech generation.

Wow. This is one of the best 8-bit renditions I have ever heard in my life.
One of the best intros ever. Why all the hate?
Bustin' makes me feel good!
I spent the summer of 1984 paying this game. Those were the days...
This is a great sing along
Loved this on the Commodore 64 !!
This brings back memories. I still remember buying this from Childrens Palace here in STL. Randall Brothers where are you? Frog BBS? 300 Baud. Long Live Atari.
This Atari 800 version of Ghostbusters eventually came out in about 86. I remember a mazagine review at the time..."Worth the Wait" is what they said.
The Best version of all old machine
OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! THIS GOOD OLD FUCKING TIMES... I REMEMBER ME.... I'VE PLAYED THIS AND I LOVE IT!!!! IT WAS SUCH A GREAT GAME!! THE GOOD FUCKING OLD TIMES...
Amazing sounds from the Atari 8-bit computers for their time. The programmers got really creative with it.
I used to own this game and loved it. Love the music - thanks for uploading this video, it sure hell brings back good memories :o)
Damn this is really good for the Atari 2600
I'm so used to the lyrics of the TFS parody "Ghost Nappa" that some instrumental portions of the original song seem empty.
I know it was made after this game was, but now I want some ECTO COOLER!
Better than Fall Out Boy..
JonnyInfinite amen
Bob Guy no
💯
That Dot..... it's hypnotizing me into watching this again, "Click the button." it says, "Click the button."
The voice sounded like when I farted in a toaster and got electrocuted
Ahh the classic CPU grunt from the 1980's. Gotta love Atari!
dude u jst brought my childhood flooding bk2me :-)
This is one hell of a port!
CONGLATURATION!!!
YOU HAVE COMPLETED
A GREAT GAME.
AND PROOVED THE JUSTICE
OF OUR CULTURE
NOW GO AND REST OUR
HEROES!
(Yes, I know that phrase is on the NES version)
The Atari 8-bit computers have the best version of this intro IMO with the C64 coming in second.
Love it.
I'm thinking specifically of several europe-specific machines, most notably the Sinclair Spectrum/Timex.
The 400 and the C64 use more or less the same processor, but it was clocked faster in the Atari. And it had custom chips for just about everything.
This game took many time to load, at least in my old XC12! Ahh the good old times...
I wanted to play in Boulder Dash and some other games to refresh my memories but my XC12 is found being broken. When I packed it in late 90`s it was all fine :\
*Classic* :-)
lol I remember this.. a classic
Lol the speach at the start is quite amusing now that I hear it now.
AAAAA WHY IS THE "BUSTIN MAKES ME FEEL GOOD" PART STILL THE MOST REPLAYED?? AAAAAAAA
best song for atari
The way the guy says Ghostbusters at the intro song songs more clear than the one in the NES version and of course this Ghostbusters theme sounds much better than NES.
We sing along to this, karaoke style ^^
this sounds significantly better than the nes one
what
Bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin' bustin'
You should see Jamesnintendonerd (the Angry Video Game Nerd)'s review on this game. Its HILARIOUS!
I always wondered why they never included the original song while the game loaded since the 8 bit Ataris could use the second audio channel to play audio.
@ShadowNicholas No this game was on a floopy disk. Cartridge blowing was on the NES about 3 years later.
yeah!!!!!!
I agree completely
Man the Atari the a good job
I was like 2 or 3 when i played this first time!
who you gonna call?
THOSE BUSTARDS!!!
"Fuck playing the game this shit it lit *Dabs*"
*Have you got the ATR file?*
GOOSHBOSHOOS WECHECHECHECH!
ROFL! love the cong
crap, I completely forgot there was already an 8-bit theme before I made mine....
....Oh well
activision in their best days
0:00 you can watch the monster who ruins crash
This wasn't on the 2600, it was on the Atari 800 computer, no way the 2600 could display graphics like that, or text for that matter.
it's weird, that the Atari "Ghostbusters" voice recording is actually way superior to the NES.
Nah, the Atari simply had more CPU grunt and better sound hardware than the other 8-bit - and a price tag to match.
You want to see creative, watch the intro for the 48k Sinclair Spectrum version. The thing only has a simple PC-speaker style beeper!
yes pretty much on par with the C64 version it seems. The SID chip in the C64 is a little distinct but other than very comparable machines in many ways.
GEARTHBERSTERS!!
:03-:04
That's all I need for the rest of my life.
oh my god
what was the point of that "whipewhipewha" thing with the voice?
Grump Bumped.
99% of comments: GRRRSHTBRESSTERS
Other 1%: Oooooooooo nice song.
What Atari system was this for?
“GERSHBERSTERS!”
At the intro:
GHOSHBUSHTERS
RALALALALLALALALALALALALAHAHAAA
8-bit theme song starts.
@GiraffesEatingLemons If you're talking about the old 2600 console, yes. But this is about Atari 8-bit COMPUTERS they used floppy disk drives. Ghostbusters came on floppy disks for the Atari computers, I know since I HAVE ONE AND the game as well. Stop being ignorant please.
AT least its better than the NES version OMG
And you could press the space bar on the C64 and it would say "Ghostbusters".
It's pretty much in par with the C64 :D
Better than the NES one.
Did he say Ghostbusters?
back then they made games, now they mainly publish them
0:03 😊
when chuck norris dies, this will play at his funeral when his ghost comes out of the coffin
I think it was ported to the Atari by someone else, i.e. not by David Crane. It's not as good as the C64 version. I know since I've played both. This was the first game released on both systems where I preferred the C64 version, even though I had an Atari at the time.
@PassWorId atari never has a start button
Better than Fall Out Boy!
u know this is for the Atari 8 Bit computer and not the 2600, right?
@PassWorId ah,,,ok i remember it,,,the computer atari 8 bit,,,

That voice
only 1 ghost in youtube
240p for maximum experience
... This is a _really_ random-ass thought, but I wonder if the laughter at the beginning of this version of Ghostbusters inspired a similar peal of laughter in the introduction to each episode of Serial Experiments Lain: ruclips.net/video/NfjsLmya1PI/видео.html
aww, struggles
@Romulien
NOPE JUST LOOK AT THE ST VERSION
