  • An approach to coming up with your own licks/runs for lead guitar playing as well as a free lick.
    If you're a beginner or at least new to playing more challenging lead guitar licks, this is an example of how to start coming up with your own licks and runs on the guitar.

    When Josh just a sweep its like he didn't even have to think about it, it's just second nature to him. He makes it look so fucking effortless and easy as shit.

    Hey Josh you should do your own guitar class video. I’d totally buy it and learn from youu

    Holy shit, your tone has changed a ton with the new guitars!

    • @JoshMiddletonOfficial
      @JoshMiddletonOfficial  9 лет назад +10

      My tone really hasn't changed at all. Same amps, same pickups, same wood. You can't judge too much from a camera microphone with me sitting in front of the speakers the sound is coming from

    • @JoshMiddletonOfficial
      @JoshMiddletonOfficial  9 лет назад +6

      Sahil Londhe All of the woods are the same on my guitars. I don't get why you'd make a big claim about my tone changing just because I move to ESP. My thin SG with an EMG 85 sounds nothing like my chambered Les Paul with a passive pickup yet both guitars featured on our last two albums and sound way way different to each other, but no one bats an eyelid. I could do a tone shoot out between my Eclipse and various other guitars and no one would be speculating this much

      Josh Sylosis Must be placebo effect then, my mistake. I thought the Gibson guitars had mahogany necks (as apposed to the ESP guitars, which have maple necks)?

    These are top quality videos for any aspiring guitarist. I've been playing five years can remember trying to learn the major scale all over the neck in all 12 keys. in retrospect this was bonkers, how would you approach scale / mode practice?

    I can't find any where only answer I don't get about modes. When someone is trying to explaining modes I can't understand one thing - does mode means scale starting note is changed or all whole/half starting from mode note transferred to root note (C dorian is DEFGABC or CDD#FGAA#)?

    • @TheMathMog93
      @TheMathMog93 9 лет назад +2

      Only the root note is changed. C major Scale goes "C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C". So if you play a C Major scale with the C as the root, that is C "Ionian". If you play the C major scale, but use the A note (Sixth note of the scale) as the root, then you play the A Aeolian, also known as the A minor scale.
      Otherwise if you want a phrygian sound, you can play the C major scale, but use the E note (Third note of the scale) as the root, that is E Phrygian.
      I hope that cleared it up a bit :)

      @TheMathMog93 9 лет назад

      So to answer your last question. C Dorian is "C,D,D#,F,G,A,A#", because it is derived from the Bb (A#) Ionian :)
      C Dorian is playing the Bb mayor scale (Ionian) with the C as the root :)

      Another easy way to think about it is this.
      C Major/Ionian Scale = C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C
      D Dorian Scale = D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D (Play the same notes as the C Major scale, however, you emphasize the D)
      E Phrygian Scale = E, F, G, A, B, C, D, E (Play the same notes as the C Major scale, however, you emphasize the E and so on)
      F Lydian Scale = F, G, A, B, C, D, E, F
      G Mixolydian Scale = G, A, B, C, D, E, F, G
      A Aeolian Scale = A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A (Natural Minor Scale)
      B Locrian Scale = B, C, D, E, F, G, A, B
      You can think of them as intervals or how far away the note is for example
      Major/Ionian Scale = Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half or C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C
      Dorian Scale = W, H, W, W, W, H, W or C, D, Eflat, F, G, A, Bflat, C
      Phrygian Scale = H, W, W, W, H, W, W
      Lydian Scale = W, W, W, H, W, W, H
      Mixolydian = W, W, H, W, W, H, W
      Aeolian = W, H, W, W, H, W, W
      Locrian = H, W, W, H, W, W, W
