I cannot thank you enough for posting this video, after reading some of the horror stories on the Focus ST forum, I can confidently say this video saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars on wasted parts and misdiagnoses! I had the same issue of my 2014 Focus, in addition to my wipers not working, I also found that my battery was being repeatedly drained. The steps outlined here fixed both issues. Just a quick tip for others with this issue - if you follow the steps and your wipers still aren't working, try reversing the wires connected to the voltage sensor. It seems this is necessary depending on the type of replacement voltage sensor you are using.
That’s awesome man. Thanks for the kind words. Comments like these are why I make videos. And thanks for the tip about reversing the wires. I’ll pin this comment in case it helps others. 👍
Thank you so much for making this video. We had same problem with 2017 Focus. We were on a road trip, 100's of miles from home, no tools. Pulled the fuse until we could get a new cable at the closest Ford dealer $130. Changed the cable, and we are back on the road with wiper now! This vid was a lifesaver. Thank you again!
Just checked the battery in the wife's focus and sure as sunrise, a whole bunch of corrosion. We even live in an arid climate so I didnt expect any. The BCN is in good condition, cleaned everything, put some battery goo on the terminals, put the fuse back in and time will tell! Thank you so much for this video! Was ready to dig into the steering column!
I had the same problem with my car! (2012 Ti hatchback) I tried your fix and replaced both the negative cable as well as the battery sensor, and it didn't do anything. I had also read that switching the wires on the sensor fixes the problem, but no dice here. I did a hard reset of the battery life in Forscan, replaced the wiper stalk, and the fuse. So I gave up and brought it to the dealer. They concluded that it was the steering control module ($600 including labor 😬), replaced it, and all was well (besides the turn signal stalk they broke in the process...). Dealership did note that in most of these cars, it's just the switch or the cable, but if your issue still resides after all the fixes shown (and I otherwise mentioned), look into your steering control module!
I just finished fixing my Focus thanks to this video! It took about an hour (not counting the time I lost a screw). I've never even changed oil in my own cars, so that should give you an idea of just how easy it is.
Thank you for posting this and going through it. I had the exact same issue and this solved it. I was able to save the pigtails and clean the negative side with pop and an abrasive as well as get a new battery.
Great video. Appreciated all the helpful tips and laughed out loud when you included that you forgot to place the shrink wrap over the cables before soldering.
Thanks so much. I was able to take the negative cable out and cleaned the corrosion with vinegar and baking soda. The plastic on the wiper cable was a little eaten away but I was able to get things cleaned up and working without having to replace any parts. Thanks so much.
Just got through this with my 2016 Focus. Thankfully the connector wasn't too far gone, I was able to clean it up and wrap-up the male-side cover that had a hole eaten into it LOL. Thanks for the vid! I can drive down the road without my wipers going bananas lol
Thanks for the video. Helped me with my 2017 focus. Also wanted to let others know if you pull the fuse out for the windshield wiper you can still use the car and not have them still going. Also I was able to find my parts at rockauto.
Thanks for a great video and saving me hours or research. Just happened to me out of the blue yesterday but when i turned on my AC it got me out of the loop? So i'm hoping my issue is still early and I can just do some cleaning without replacing parts? Either way thanks for great video and your time!
BACK IN 2008 when gas and diesel were going crazy just like now, I had to make a decision, take my Ford diesel truck off the road which we used for work, and do estimates in the home improvement business covering 3 neighboring states. I decided to purchase a new Ford Focus wagon, " junk as you called it ", I still use this " junk car " today. Gets close to 30 mpg, and doesn't burn oil. a/c works great and so on. The only thing I do is keep up with the maintenance, tires, and aliments. I now have over 300K miles on it. We also purchased another new Junk Focus in 09 that my partner uses. That Junk also has high mileage. 2025 was a sad year,, Ford stopped making the Junk Focus. They're talking about an elec., Focus...JUNK
i don’t disagree at all. I know exactly the Focus you’re talking about. We had a 2010 model Focus and that car was solid, reliable, flawless. We’d still be happily driving it today if my wife didn’t get in an accident with it. We should have went right back to the dealer and bought a used version of that same car. Our mistake was getting the newer model where they introduced the dual clutch transmission. Ford knowingly shipped a defective product there. It’s a whole debacle with lawsuits and recalls galore. They offered a moderately extended warranty for this issue, but these cars are still going to be all not worth fixing while the older model Focuses are still out there chugging along.
Thanks for the vid, that was awesome, same problems in my daughters 2012 Ford Focus, she told me the car was possessed; and yes we have that piece of junk focus, that was funny 😂😂
I checked both fuse and relay replaced my wiper switch both wiper motors replaced that negative battery cable with the battery current sensor and still no wipers on my 13 focus POS edition. If anyone knows anything else it would be appreciated 🙂👍 . Thanks for another piece of my puzzle 🧩 it did fix a friend of mine, excellent call🤙😀
It's been close to a year since this video. Did the issue return? I just started having this issue with 2016 SE. I finished watching the video and immediately ordered parts through Amazon. Hopefully it takes care of yet another focus problem.
Still going strong. We've been driving it more than the truck lately to save on gas and it's been fine. No issues with the windshield wipers since I posted this vid
So far so good. It’s been about 2 months. Wife works from home now so it’s not a daily driver but she goes out a few times a week and it hasn’t returned.

That's awesome to hear. Glad it saved you in a pinch. Nothing makes a man feel quite as helpless as being far from home and having car trouble!

Thanks for the instruction. Cleaned up the corrosion and no more possessed wipers. The Mother-in-law is happy....for now.,

I’ve been having the same problem. Did it actually fix the problem or has it started doing it again?
So far so good. It’s been about 2 months. Wife works from home now so it’s not a daily driver but she goes out a few times a week and it hasn’t returned.

Hopefully I don’t have to get new motors
