Sonic Generations unlocked framerate - Xbox 360 (RGH 2024)

- Read below to know how to have 60 fps.
NOTE: The purpose of this video is only to show how the game runs with the unlocked framerate. It is my first play of Sonic Generations.
This is a video of Sonic Generations with unlocked framerate on a real Xbox 360. It runs smoother than the original.
To get the unlocked framerate you have to:
1. You need a RGH modded Xbox 360 (actually, I haven't tried on a retail Xbox 360 with this game installed. Perhaps with software like Horizon it should be possibile insert the modded xex, but I don't suggest it because with unlocked framerate the GPU temperature rises)
2. Take the defaul.xex in your Sonic Generations folder on the xbox 360, copy and paste it in your PC to uncompress/decrypt it with xextool (follow my tutorial for the decrypting/uncompressing part, here • Xbox 360 - Tutorial: ... )
3. Open the decrypted/uncompressed file in HxD
4. Search for these locations (CTRL+G):
Solution 1
DC04AC (82dc44ac in absolute values) and change 81 7f 36 a0 to 39 60 00 01
DC04E8 (82dc44e8 in absolute values) and change 39 60 00 01 to 39 60 00 00 (so 01 to 00)
Solution 2 (Alternative, perhaps less tearing effect)
DC04AC (82dc44ac in absolute values) and change 81 7f 36 a0 to 39 60 00 03
NOTE: if you don't find it, be sure you have selected "hexadecimal values" in the research window and you don't have a title updated (TU) game or another region game (ex. PAL/NTSC or Media ID). In that case try to search for these values. The strings to change are the first:

5. Save the file as you prefer (eg. SonicGen_unlocked.xex)
6. Copy this file in your folder on the Xbox 360, then start it by file manager or rename in default.xex (after renamed the original one) to start it from the cover in your dashboard

You got the wrong name, it's Sonic Unleashed, not Generations.

It'll be funny to see the Switch (and if they don't care, the PS4 and Xbox One versions) run at 30fps while the Xbox 360 runs this game at around 60fps (even if you have to mod it).
This looks REALLY GOOD, dont know why Sega didn't optimized Sonic Unleashed and Generations to run at 60fps (especially since they're fast paced platformers).
because the 360 version would've put the PS3 game to shame
stupid question. since you are unlocking framerate on xbox 360. there is no way you can change the resolution of the games on hex or patching the .xex so they reach 60 fps without drops. For example, most games are in 1280x720, change it to 1024x600 sub HD or smaller?
It's not a stupid question. I already tested this issue on some games (eg. Ace Combat 6 or NFS Shift), changing the resolution by hex code seems to have a low impact on tearing and smoothness. You can test by yourself setting your console at 480p from the video settings on Microsoft dash.
I hate to ask you so many questions, but is the Xbox 360 overclocked or it running the game at an uncapped framerate on stock speeds?
Questions are not a problem, don't mind. It's the stock speed, I haven't ever read about the Xbox 360 overclocking. Have you somewhere? It could be interesting.

It's all in the description. I don't know if it is possibile on Xbox One or X/S, it depends on if the default.xex is reachable.
Try to do what Digital Foundry did with the Orange-Box 60FPS mod (I would post the link, but RUclips would delete it, so you might have to look it up).
