Today we take a look at the AstrHori 18mm f8 Shift lens and what it brings to the table for architecture photography as well as street photography. I test it on both my Leica CL for street photography and then on my Leica SL2 for architecture photography as I wanted to see how it performs on both image sensors sizes since one is a full frame sensor and one is an APS-C sensor. The lens is a neat little novelty lens in my book and turns out has a couple of problems that would make it frustrating to do certain kinds of photography. Fortunately it the mounting scheme comes in many camera mounts so it will fit virtually all digital cameras made today.

Nice job, David! I have been wanting a shift lens for a long time, the problem is they are usually crazy expensive. I enjoyed your review!

I hear ya! Even the older ones are crazy expensive. Like the one I showed in the video. If you dont use them on the regular, the cost isn’t really justified.

I have a Canon 24mm and 2 slightly different Laowa 15mm ones, and now this one. The real good ones tend to be pricey, bulky, and a chore to lug around. Thus one is very different.

Thanks David for a good honest review. A fascinating little lens.

Thank you Clare. I will be honest with you, I had high hopes this lens would work like the TTArtisan lenses i have used as they are wonderful little lenses. If they fix the issues I brought up, it would be a winner in my book. 👍📸

Really like the vintage nikkor 28mm PC - plus you can make panoramas with PTgui

I would really like to get my hands on one of those to review. I cant justify the cost though to just buy it outright. Maybe one day… 👍📸

It looks like a great deal for $120, but the fact that there is significant vignetting @ 6mm of shifting is a deal breaker for me. Sort of defeats the idea of having a "shift" lens when you can't avoid vignetting, especially considering that its maximum shift is only 6mm.
In today's digital world, quality shift lenses are the "perfect" solution for panorama stitching, both vertical and horizontal, as well as producing standard size images with a significant increase in pixel resolution.
FWIW - The vintage Nikkor 28mm & 35mm shift lenses are downright cheap at KEH in Atlanta ($200-$450 range), have 11mm of shift, and sharp as a tack.
    Great review David!!

Thank you Michael, It is really more of a novelty lens to be honest. I too was surprised to see how bad the corners were with it shifted to the end of the range like that. 📸👍

Cool little lens but I see where it could become an issue..You changed your intro, you finally rewired that Georgia Photographer sign, it doesn't arc anymore...lol

Thank you Bassangler. Yeah. That Len’s is neat. As for the intro, it is a temporary. The other one is coming back. Lol. Long story but hopefully the next video will be back to normal. 😬👍📸
