Halfway through the song He takes it down to silence and then slowly picks it back up. He took me through my teenage years and I still get chills every time I hear it. 60 years old and it still like I just heard him for the first time.

Yep that shift in what 'night moves' means is pretty damned inspired. Hell of a song to be written by a 29 year old man. This song is just as relevant to 16 year old me as it is to 60 year old me

I am 47 years old and it is magic for me too. I was born in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan and though my parents and I moved to Texas when I was still very young, one of the few memories that I do have of Michigan is sitting in the grass with my Mom and Dad at the live shows that Bob Seger played (at I want to say...Cedar Point??). They went (and took me along) to every show because he was a hometown boy so they were/are both huge Bob Seger fans.

Yup, and most people miss the first couple lines too, firm and high. And the lyrics in the middle about using each other. These lyrics went straight over this guys head. Check out Andy and Alex reaction to this song. They missed some of the references but for their first time hearing the song it was pretty on point.

He has been on the scene since he was a teenager and I remembered hearing him on the radio as a kid, but the radio announcer never spoke a word about who it was. Hi Andy ! Did you know Rolling Stone magazine picked this song as best single of 1977? It’s his best song. Check their June 1978 profile of Bob. It’s one of the best pieces of writing about Seger. For video, seek out the 1991 interview with Bob Costas.
Hey Haze ! I saw your “Against the Wind” reaction too. Thank you. Do you know THAT song, described by one writer as ‘hilariously overwrought, profoundly boring’, beat out Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” and Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” for a Grammy? I’m looking forward to what you do next by him. I vote “Come to Poppa” or “Fire Down Below”. Musically, both are the opposite of “Against the Wind” and just a smidge raunchy.

    See grr
This is probably Bob’s best song.
I’m pretty sure you have heard him at some point. Maybe “Old Time Rock and Roll”, or “Shakedown” or “Like a Rock”.
Reactors have discovered Seger in the last year.
Some songs we seldom see are:
Ramblin Gamblin Man - stomping ‘60s
    Katmandu - rocking
    Sunspot Baby - honkey tonk
Famous Final Scene - sad and slow
    Horizontal Bop - infectious
Against the Wind - profound ballad
    Still the Same - observant
Best guitar lick may be on the quiet “Mainstreet”
Some nice work by the Silver Bullet Band on the bridge between Traveling Man and Beautiful Loser from his Live Bullet album.
So many great songs put him in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and his voice and performances in the RRHOF. Well deserved.
