Sadly Randy Meisner died today 28/7/2023 but this song and his singing of it, never will. Two very strong and deep memories, the first is the loss of my first love of a girl who broke my heart who play it so much and secondly 15 years later my two sons aged 6 and 4 sat in the back of my car, asking me to play it again, so as a family we could sing along to it. If it comes on the radio when I am driving, I swear I can see my youngest son Tom, smiling, laughing and singing along loudly to it, in my rear mirror and it always brings tears to my eyes.
I’ve watched this video numerous times and never tire of it! The Eagles were a phenomenal band. And Randy Meisner’s voice was amazing… and when he hits that high note and holds it at the end, well that just made history! What an amazing moment it must’ve been for him. RIP Randy, your fans will always remember you fondly. He was such a cutie to boot! ❤️😘😍🥰
I came here on the day Randy Meisner died. I had forgotten how beautiful this song was. He had a beautiful voice, and this song is really the best. Thank you Randy for all the beauty you brought to the world!
I say to you mister Meisnerm THANK YOU VERY MUCH for being part of this life and part this great BAND. As I listen to your song I have goose pimple and some sweet moments come to mind. Your voice your and sound were around on those difficult time in my life. You gave me company and let me relax, suffer in silence and believe that in life, when one love goes away Only GOD and music will for ever remain in one´s life. And I can attest to that God and The Eagles band have bestow me with much love, company, sound and emotions. REST FOR VER IN PEACE.. Oh what a voice ....
Rest in eternal peace big man, your voice entranced me in the 70's and will continue to do so for as long as I am here on planet earth. You were and always will be the BEST of the Eagles.
Had the honour to watch Randy sing this live in 1977.... Absolutely breathtaking, sad how it ended up for him and the Eagles but he was in the best lineup and Hotel California was their pinnacle...RIP Randy, you left us a great legacy..👍👍👍👍👍
"I don't want to sing this song today because my voice isn't right," Randy said before the day's stage began. But Glenn wouldn't allow it. "Randy sing it. There are people waiting for you to sing this song." And this song was played. The result is a resounding success. Randy's high tone voice is the best. As he played the piano, Glenn looked at Randy and smiled.
Eagles. Randy Meisner. What a great man with the best vocal chords ever. I'll probably see you soon, as i'm Heaven bound. See Ya then! I'm a Scotsman. Miss my home country by The Firth of Fourth. Or unless you're a Genesis listener.........................
Unbelievable! When Randy hits that high note at the end, the audience explode with applause despite the fact that the song wasn't over. The look on Glenn Frey and Randy's face is priceless.
@@stevebagnall1553 .. “Randy hated singing” … not so! Randy became reluctant to sing TITTL, but Randy LOVED singing and said that he would have liked to sing lead on MORE songs not FEWER songs (interview with Randy in John Beaudin’s Rock History Music YT channel) - but the Egoes Frey and Henley (as the self-appointed “bosses”) ensured that they promoted themselves by appearing to be in the lead. This is the background to Randy becoming reluctant to sing Take It To The Limit: Randy had a premonition at the time that he wrote it , that if the song became a hit, he would have to sing it and reach those high notes at each live performance .. and yes it became a hit and he had to sing it at every live performance ... this was the song that the crowds demanded to see him sing, showing that Randy was the real drawcard for the fans.. Well .. OK so he could hit those notes (and even higher if he wanted to, said Joe Walsh in an interview), for sure, but with a live performance there is no do-over like in a studio - and if he didn’t hit those notes in a live performance, Randy felt he would have disappointed the audience and embarrassed himself. So although he loved to sing lead, he developed a dread of singing that particular song., especially singing it almost every night without a rest for his voice to recover from those prolonged high notes (which many women struggle to reach), on the 11-month grueling Hotel California tour. In the 1977 concert in Washington, you can see that when Randy sang TITTL he used muscles in his core, throat and face to sing each word with passion - now imagine singing like that when you have stomach ulcers and flu.
This song is no doubt, the best one out of the Eagles songbook. Up there with Hotel California. And Randy Meisner has the voice, it took Suzy Bogguss to even come close. The outro vocals are superb. I am so blessed to have spent my prime in a time when music such as this was on the stage. No more, but the technology has preserved the sum total. That too I give my thanks.
Nobody can touch Randy’s rendition of this song, which is his own composition that he was writing in his own creative process and in his own creative time .. until it was hijacked by Frey and Henley with their “let us help you finish it” trick that they used on a few other musicians to get their names on the credits and on the royalties checks.
#RIP Randy Meisner, such sad news that you've gone..what an amazing musician and vocalist..this is the song that really put the band on the map..his voice was so amazing. Thank God we have his music! 😢❤❤❤
RIP sir. I was a young child when my older brother would play his vinyl records and it was through him I often heard these earliest of songs. Being classically trained myself, and trained and competed in ballroom dancing, I can often remember dancing to this very song, of all waltzes available, in dance competitions and elegant ballrooms the world round. Saw them live in one of their iterations, but Randy was the real deal. Godspeed sir.
It's his masterpiece, priceless..What a voice, one of those songs that made me love the Eagles band.Randy took it to the limit! What a great song!Love it
Just sensational! This was 'THE' line up. Just a real shame the band lost Randy and Don (Felder). They were never the same and no one sings this tune like Randy.
Also they lost Bernie Leadon, who was one of the four co-founders in 1971 along with Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey and Don Henley - later joined in 1974 by Bernie’s old school chum Don Felder. Bernie’s excellent instrumentation and strong bluegrass influence gave Eagles their characteristic sound which enabled them to soar above all the other wanna-be country-rock bands in an overcrowded arena. It was Bernie’s lead and memorable guitar licks on their first four albums. Also, Bernie wrote some great songs : he wrote all the iconic music for Witchy Woman, which was Eagles’ 3rd hit but their FIRST hit written only by Eagles members (with Don Henley having written the lyrics). Other memorable Bernie compositions: Bitter Creek and Early Bird (co-written with Randy, contains a great banjo-guitar duel between Bernie and Glenn Frey on slide guitar).
Totally agree! Randy just wasn’t the party kind of guy and felt out of place but he was in the right place all along, the tin gods wouldn’t have it that way. Then Don Felder..really? The wienie they (tin gods) got to fill in his spot is like taking a 454 out of your muscle car and dropping in a Hyundai Pony four banger! This guy reminds me of the one that played on ‘Santa Clause’ with Tim Allen. The one who gets his Wienie Whistle from Tim!🤣
1977, my absolute favourite performance of this beautiful song. That look Walsh gave the camera! 😏💗 Meisner had a real gift. Thankfully, we can still hear that beautiful gift he gave all of us.
At the end of that long note, the crowd clapped and the band smiled. A Star was born. The eagle has landed.
Sadly Randy Meisner died today 28/7/2023 but this song and his singing of it, never will.

When Randy left the Eagles, the band was never the same. As a musician, I can tell you he is one in a million.
One in a billion, only Roy comes close
Randy and Glenn : two giants

Me too. And the warm fuzziness.
Pure class
Desde Peru, mi video favorito de Eagles, grande Randy
Unbelievable! When Randy hits that high note at the end, the audience explode with applause despite the fact that the song wasn't over. The look on Glenn Frey and Randy's face is priceless.
Frey, admired him hitting the top C note and Randy hated singing so in effect he was bullied into singing it, perhaps the reason he quit.

@@ingfig1 I think he meant he hated singing that note, seems like typo to me
Joe's face at 3:40 "Yes, we're THAT good!" Brilliant!
The best vocalist they ever had - and they knew it.
I absolutely 👍 agree... its sad to see how things have turned out for Randy
Joe Walsh is also great
@@andyobsteter1983 good one
The others members of the eagles were felt insecure of his voice that s why they kicked him.
Totaly agree!

Ya, it's always troubled waters when you have so many strong minds within one group. But heck, what a band over-all!
How about Bernie Leadon isn't He so so important as pioneering member of the greedy now EAGLES,,,,,Oh how I wihs they still they were.
