    Version Info: This is the High Performance version of the Freewing F-86 Sabre 80mm EDF Jet. This version includes a powerful 3658-1920Kv inrunner motor with 9-blade fan, 100A ESC and hybrid metal gear servos.
    The Freewing 80mm EDF F-86 Sabre is modeled after the North American F-86F that was flown by USAF Ace Captain Clifford D. Jolley. Captain Jolley, call sign "Jolley Roger", flew in the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing of the 335th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (Chiefs) during the Korean War and is credited with seven confirmed enemy victories. Such a famous plane deserves a scale model which lives up to legend of Captain Jolley, and Freewing has delivered with the 80mm EDF F-86.
    The first thing you will notice about the Freewing F-86 is it's scale appearance and accurate proportions. You won't find a non-scale, over-sized intake on this jet; Freewing has created this famous jet in perfect proportions while not sacrificing performance. Speaking of performance, the Freewing F-86 uses the new 80mm 9-blade EDF combined with a powerful 1920Kv motor for awesome speed and incredible maneuverability.
    The sound produced from the 9 blade EDF is sure to turn heads at the flying field. While 5 and 6 blade EDFs produce a high pitched whining sound, the 9 blade EDF produces the "whoosh" and air crushing sound similar to a gas turbine jet. Additional upgraded features include an 100A Hobbywing ESC, 9g precision hybrid servos, electronic retracts with full metal shock absorbing struts, scale drop down flaps, and magnetically removable drop tanks. Keep Captain Jolley's legend alive, own the Freewing 80mm EDF F-86 Sabre Fighter Jet.
    Visit the Official Freewing 80mm F-86 Sabre Discussion Thread on HobbySquawk.com for additional photos, videos, reviews, and customer Q&A.
    Includes:
    Freewing F-86 Sabre High Performance 9B 80mm EDF Jet - PNP
    Features:
    NEW! 9-Blade factory balanced EDF with a powerful brushless 3658-1920Kv inrunner motor
    NEW! 100 Amp Hobbywing ESC with 5A BEC
    NEW! Hybrid metal gear servos throughout
    Composite fan blades combined with metal EDF housing make the F86 AMA compliant (the fan blades themselves are NOT metal, so there are no flying restrictions)
    Super scale details include hand painted pilots, scale drop tanks, machine gun turrets, airfoil panel lines, and super detailed USAF "Jolley Roger" graphics package
    Electronic retractable landing gear with all metal shock-absorbing struts
    Steerable, shock absorbing nose gear for enhanced ground maneuverability

      Good point Six! I didn’t realize they were so stingy until John’s experience played out. With so many other cool jet options out there, I will think twice before buying another plane from MRC. My Arrows F-86 recorded that same day is awesome btw!

    I have one of these and they fly great. The recommended balance point is to have the tail just ever so slightly touching the ground, then lightly tap the nose and it should pitch forward and rest level on all three wheels. When I assembled mine there were some issues. I had to carefully sand the fuselage joint to get a decent fit between the front and back fuselage. There is not much room for a 6s 5000 pack, I found out that Motion or their supplier must have changed battery vendors. My first set of batteries fit just barely, but the second set of batteries were slightly larger and the canopy would not fully close. I ended up installing a slider latch off an F4, (Ailerons backwards) to positively secure the canopy. Motion sells the slider latch separetely. The landing gear are a bit vulnerable due to minimal glue hold the mains in. The nose gear steel shaft that joins the strut to the retract unit is undersized and is prone to bending aft on a heavy/hot landing. This causes the gear to bind when retracted and you end up belly landing. I Always cycle the gear after landing to make sure the nose gear is working as it does not take much to have problems. All that being said, I really like how this model performs and has a great presentation in the sky. You just have to learn to live with its quirks.

    HobbyKing does the same thing I ordered a skyraider replacement fuslage and it came with minor damage I started an RMA ticket and they basically said well incidental damage like this we just give $5 credit so that's what they did for me but I am in agreement if you buy something that is brand new or build as brand new it should look brand new I'm a purist that way and I did not think $5 credit for a $40 fuselage was adequate seems like all the brands are doing that

    I purchased an F16 from them and on the maiden the motor spit a bearing and the fan blade chewed up the shroud etc. Because I purchased the plane in the winter and didn't fly it until summer they told me tough luck. I also purchased the F35 and it threw a fan blade as well into the fuselage causing all kinds of damage. Again no product support. I really like flying edf's so I have to suck it up and move forward

    Hi John. Tom from Motion RC here. I came across your video today. At this point, the 80mm F-86 is the oldest plane we sell (possible the P-51 came first, can't remember at this point). This F-86 and A-6 are the planes we designed over 10 years ago to invent the 80mm EDF size class. This 80mm F-86 is in a totally different class from anything we work on with Freewing today. The F-86 molds are old, the type of foam and the injection process for this mold is old. The construction is old. It is not even close to resembling anything from Freewing today. Unfortunately, the plane, molding, and resulting injection process is old enough that it cannot be fixed. The only thing we can do is discontinue the F-86 at this point. When I've mentioned discontinuing this 80mm F-86, A-6, and P-51, I get a lot of complaints asking that we do not discontinue these old planes because they fly so well. The majority of areas you pointed out as flaws are simply due to old foam molds, old paint molds, old design, and old injection. We try to cover the resulting rough foam with primer and a thick coat of paint to help but it cannot be covered perfectly. We would have happily taken back your plane because I want everyone to be happy with their purchase and my customer service team knows this and feels the same way. We enjoy working in a hobby we absolutely love and we know our customers allow us to do this. We're grateful every day we get to work in this hobby. What Motion RC and Freewing try to do is price this plane according to the age of the design (and resulting imperfections) but I can see this old plane is giving us and Freewing a bad reputation. This plane does not represent anything even close to what we make today. Unfortunately, this is not something that can be fixed. This plane is old enough the only way to fix it is to discontinue it which sounds like the route we need to take at this point.

      If it sells well enough, Id get new molds and update it/rerelease it, if not, Id have the QC people do a little better job. Its an awesome airplane and I love it!

    • @robw8703
      @robw8703 11 месяцев назад

      Tom, if this is an "old" mold and everything is "old", as you state, and may result in defects/imperfections then why is MotionRC charging top dollar for it?
      I've been debating between this F-86 and the 80mm Freewing A-4 ARF. Since the A-4 ARF isn't in stock and after seeing this video I'll bide my time and look elsewhere for a new EDF.

    • @JohnVHRC
      @JohnVHRC  Год назад +1

      I still think the plane is a great deal, lots of others have had no problems. So its luck of the draw I guess. Ive had great luck with all my other freewings! Speaking of HH, my draco has had most of its servos fail, so nobody is perfect.

    • @MrWhatahelisdis
      @MrWhatahelisdis Год назад

      @JohnVHRC that's true, I guess. I had an Apprentice S that totally lost signal out of the box and nose-dived right into the ground after intermittently browning out a few times, and Horizon sent me a whole other plane, no questions asked. I think the big difference is the customer service that HH has.

  • @NoonzAirborneRC

    I agree, it should look like new. I had to send one back. I was on the hook to ship it back (112.00) fed ex. Told me if it was damaged i shouldn't of accepted delivery.....ummmm how do i know its damaged when i have to open the box and look first.......crickets....."Customer support"...not anything directly towards Motion this has happened to me at horizon as well. I got a replacement from both vendors but was out of pocket shipping. so for those 2 models i paid 25% more than i should of.

    If motionRC was actual shops u could go in and buy off the counter then they wouldn't sell many planes or they'd stop selling the junk ones and improve quality. I hate buying from abroad as u have no leverage when it comes returns time. I've been through a many of their planes. Keepers being the Mig29, mirage, f5 & L39 which I love. I did fancy this until I seen the vid. It's a no from me. Same as the Eurofighter. It's a no Cos its from abroad with 30 day warranty. I got the fms rafale from a UK hobby shop instead.

    Dude, thanks for the build vid. However, I don't think it was fair of you to bash Motion RC the way you did. I have no affiliation with them other than 20 years and over 65 aircraft purchased. I heard your complaint and saw the "damage" you called them on. You then classied their response as dismissive, stating they told you "tough luck" or something, when actually, they provided you with the only 2 options that were possible, exchanging it or receive compensation for your concerns. Sounds like good business to me.

    Hi John;
    I really love this Bird as well!
    This is my Kolibri T-25 HP Turbine converted Freewing Sabre.
    ruclips.net/video/W-uQPb0yjiQ/видео.html
    With a thrust of 28 Newton, it really performs amazing!
    I suffered the same mistake with the loosing canopy (even have a picture of this moment :-) ) and thought it was just because of the higher speed of the turbine version, but this seems to be a general issue. I will add a small bar.
    I did a lot of modifying to my Sabre (adding additional carbon reinfocing to the wings, replaced all the platic gear servos by metal geared ones, replaced the weak retracts by e-Flite ones etc.)
    I also added some fancy lights - maybe a bit too much, but I like it :-)
    ruclips.net/video/20PpR_KAt4s/видео.html
    Don't mind about the paint issues. It's still a Foamie and this won't be the last wounds (and after all easy to fix)
    I hope your Sabre still lives?
    Best wishes from Germany :-)
