@@oriyus Everything new today's cost prohibitive. I got me a RV50 MKII used for a decent price. Best purchase I have ever made. Orange is made in the UK, Archon is now made in china, yes, everything is from China anyway but I assume the labor is the price difference.
To my ears, Orange blew this out of the park, especially the clean tones! In all examples, it was just a much more pleasing sound! I haven't had the Rockerverb on my wishlist for a long time for nothing! Great comparison as always, Jon :)
I agree, but I'm biased. I am playing a RV for a long time and not even for metal. With some good preamptubes this amp can do anything in fact. It's the most musical and lush amp I had. And I had a lot of boutique amps. Cheers Jon, your video's are always stellar!
I have the PRS Archon 100 (1st Gen) and an Orange Rockerverb MKiii 100 and trust me neither beat neither. They are both equally beautiful to own. Now with this new Generation of the Archon that he is playing here is not the same Archon as the 1st Gen Archon 50 & 100. This Archon he is playing is made with cheaper guts and design is different. Definitely not a fare comparison at all. Dude should have picked up a 1st Gen PRS Archon 50.
At some point stopped caring about the amps and i pulled out my expensive hifi headphones and kept looping that awesome riffs. Dude that sounded so good. SO GOOD. I like your style we definitely have similar influences and that sound capture was just absolute perfection. But yeah, the Orange hand down :)
I own the Orange Rockerverb MKIII 100w. So I'm biased . But I do think it's the better amp. Paired with Orange cab with v30s and an 808. it's all I've ever needed. Funnily enough though. I do use a PRS as the main guitar 🤔😄
Just picked up an Archon 50 in a trade! I am absolutely elated with the tone. I had no idea what I was in for. My first tube amp ever, I didn't do any real "research" before my trade. But was blown away at the tone and responsiveness of this amp.
Love this format of letting us hear the Clean sounds of the Amps first, as that provides a clear perspective to what is going on when Amp Gain is used. I agree with everything you said, and these two Amps are among my very favorites in the Line 6 Modeling world. I can't pick which is best, and use both all the time. This is easily my number one go to Channel for hearing how Amps sound and seeing them demonstrated. "You" are the best. 👍🤘😎
Great job as always! Orange is slightly better but it is double the price like you said (roughly $1200 or more). The cab and pedals you could get for that much far outweighs the difference in the heads themselves.
Love the Archon, but the clean Orange was outstanding. Orange amps are a weird mystery for me, in that I really enjoy their tones and what other people do with them, but I can never make them work for me. Maybe some day though. Good comparison video!
I own the archon and I've been wanting the rockerverb 50 for years. Love them both but I bought the archon for budget reasons. I use an Orange IR for my archon (I know I'm in the minority). Maybe one day I'll get the rockerverb! Awesome vid as always
I find that you get very little tonal difference. Have you tried to mic a cabinet and then compare it with the difference of the recordings made with ir's? When I mic a cabinet here at home and compare amplifiers, I get a massive difference..
I think for the first 5-10 minutes I'd prefer the Archon, but the Orange is so smooth and easy to listen to that it's very close, and after those 5-10 minutes it'll be less fatigueing to listen to. I think in a perfect world, you'd be running a dual amp setup with the Archon for leads and the Orange for riffs/rhythm. 😉
Orange. Just bought this model😁. You by far have the BEST amp comparison channel. Acoustics are great. Not sure why your subscriber number is not larger!
i have seen that a lot of modern days metal guys using orange amps right now, very old boosted and newer ones also, they seem to prefere that mushy organic sound that orange amps are known for 😎
I am biased because I own the Archon 100W. Great amp all around. Clean channel is a perfect platform for pedals and stacking the dirty channel is another beast. 👌
Both sound great but I picked the orange. I’m a little biased. I have the 100 MK lll. The Orange is sort of like a mesa boogie .When you play them the sound goes through you .They ROAR!!!!🦁
You must be on to something. I wanted a Rockerverb, but bought an Archon 50 based on price and have been really pleased with it. Price aside, it looks like I'm in the minority, but I prefer the clarity of the Archcon's clean. Maybe a little less warmth and personality, but it sounds more "hi-fi." For dirty tones, the Orange sounds better in the mix, and is just so dang luscious. I still lean towards the Archcon when isolated though, which fits my solitary (friendless, lol) use case. Again, I think it's the clarity that does it for me. I don't think you can go wrong with either, and I wish I had both!
PRS amp is like the guitars, which are like gibsons but super smooth, but like the base ball bat unwieldy necks on gibson, the orange has this natural mid spikey punch that is just a but more grittier and rebel. The archon sounds very nice and stable, but the orange sounds like it wants to let loose. When I watch a live band, I Want it to sonically ATTACK ME like a drug
I liked the Orange just a bit more, the PRS was just a bit too compressed for me. As far as the pricing goes, when you factor in that it’s UK made and has built in attenuation, it’s worth every penny. Seriously, they’re built like tanks and are wildly reliable.
I like both. For the clean stuff the Orange blew me away at how full, rounded, and just plain beautiful it sounded. It outclassed the PRS on that by a mile. For the heavy stuff the PRS is my pick. It has something, maybe 2 somethings, in it's tone that the Orange doesn't have as far as my ear can tell. The Orange is still very good on the heavy but for me it noticeably can't hang with the PRS on that.
The audio sounds great, which is why I would like to know why your full band mix is 5/6 decibels RMS louder than any given song on youtube? Don't you get volume penalty like everyone else?
i played both in a store. Archon was way better. So I bought one...then it literally went up in smoke 3 hours in. I've heard that this has happened to a couple of other people based on reading online forums. From what I'm told, they have a overheating problem, but PRS hasn't confirmed this so may or may not have been an isolated incident.
The Archon clean channel is about what you'd expect from a high gain amp. "Decent but not why you buy this amp" type of thing. The Rockerverb far overdelivers on its cleans and is a major selling point of the amp. The Dirty sounds are more down to preference. They both sound good dirty. I love the juicy Orange low mids. Sometimes the PRS's tone will work a little better in a mix.
In my opinion, the Rockerverb was better. The clean channel on the Archon sounds thin and trebly. The Rockerverb sounds rich and full. The dirty channel is the same for me. Rockerverb has a full sound, and the Archon sounds thinner and more spikey. For PRS, I prefer the MT15 tone over the Archon as well. To me, the tone on the MT15 is fuller, with better bass. The Archon again just sounds thin to me.
Archon on the dirty channel cuts through the mix in band setting really well. Orange sounds great. I think I could get both these amps sounding close especially with a 10 band eq. Archon is half the price. Go figure. Thanks for the video. Enjoyed it
i have the rockerverb, barely play it, but if I got to tour with an amp, that would nail it... great stage presence, rest is EQ, IR, or cabs... if u have it, u can rock it at home as well... good volume control and just charming overall... :), so for anyone thinking about cashing one in... go for it, its a great amp!
both good amps but very diffrent. I do prefer the orange for it's vintage warmth and more balanced overall tone. It's funny because right now my favorite Axe Fx preset is the Archon with magnatone 1x12 Ir 😂.
I haven't had the pleasure of trying an orange in person, but I like the sound in the right context. That being said, the orange models in the axefx left me wanting something, but the archon model blew me away. That might have something to do with it, maybe I just didn't know how to use it, the archon felt easy to dial in and sounded good from noon.
@@progpogs I agree, but with latest update everything sound better including the Orange. I suggest you try the new Orange cabs pack from OH and keep the master volume of the amp high. Of course, it will always depend on what tone you're looking for.

Orange wins… Both distortions sound similar enough, but the Orange clean is hands down the better of the two… Of course, running everything through reactive loads and cab simulators no doubt influences these videos… Would be nice to get some mic’d cab vids…
Over here the difference isn't that big, more like 800 or so. But sure, If budget is an issue the Archon is more affordable. In that case one could also look at more affordable Oranges if that signature Orange tone is desired

the orange over all has an attitude that suits my ear better. nice and thick and warm both clean and driven. i thought the dirty on the archon sounded a little rectifier sounding, but the tone was a little too sterile sounding to me on both channels.
As always the playing alone is worth the watch, the Orange will always be the winner to me (but I am bias as I run the mark 1 with 4 6v6 valves in the power stage). The prs sounds sweet as though, really highlights why folk run more than one amp at a time. Nice job as always sir.

I was more interested in this comparison for the dirty sounds; but daaaaaaam the clean tones out of the Orange were amazing.....
The Orange wins it for me. Archon sounds generic. The Orange just has more character and complexity to it's tone.

Not really in the minority buddy. I also use an orange IR for all my amps . There’s just something about that PPC412 that slays all other cabs.

Orange is way better on the cleans, PRS sounds cheap. On the distortion the PRS sounds more modern, but I still like the Orange best...in my opinion.
PRS Archon for dirty tones. Orange amps have the worst, squishiest sounding palm mutes. Orange for clean tone, no question.
