Swing, an ancient pastime enduring through the ages, has evolved into a novel form of artistic expression across generations, finding its spirit within the captivating realm of the Art of Entanglement. The transformation has woven a tapestry of connections among people, forging resilient bonds. Through the immortal chain of heritage and evolution, emerges a rejuvenated embodiment of a new Swing: Wive-Wave, inspired by Chinese game Diabolo.
Wive-Wave comprises two fundamental components: diabolo and its string. The sinuous string serves as a meandering bridge, embracing the diabolos and births the interactive junctures where individuals meet along this delicate bridge. When the game starts, the rhythmic cadence of bamboo evoked by the tensely pulled rope, unravels into the enchanting legends of millennia, praising the tenacity of inheritance over the ages. The dynamic structure mirrors the graceful curves of the flexible string. Creatively, people manipulate and entwine the swing to execute a series of mesmerizing tricks. The bamboo’s patterns on the surface reflect the diabolo’s scars, accumulated through countless falls during practice, conveying the resilient spirit of “fall and get back up”. The scenery of Nansha Bird Park framed by the bamboo framework, harmoniously connects individuals with nature, allowing the beauty to be captured as people play the swing.
Swaying away from the typical swing, Wive-Wave is connected solely by a single rope (‘string’), elegantly entwines the two diabolos, engaging with each other. The marriage of adventure and tranquility infuses an inclusive aura, the swing imparts movement, and the rocking chair orchestrates equilibrium, much corresponds to the diabolo trick- one hand pulls while the other guides. At its heart, a playful spinning structure with colored layers invites children inside, twirling joyfully when the sunlight goes in. Two struggling diabolos, tangled in twisted rope and battling for equilibrium within the central axis. They sway like two graceful elves, evoking the essence of the term “diabolo”- “elves on two sticks.”
